i'm tired of hearing ignorant afros talking crap about obama being a great president in public. you think we don't notice you can barely even talk coherently ,much less write and to think you may have an reasonable educated opinion on anything political when your just trashy bitches trying to climb on obamas black half of penis.i'd vote for a crack dealer as president before i'd vote in a traitorous empty suit who only represents foreign interests, not the us citizen of any race.
one day we will get rid of all WHITE people and all that will exist will be people of mix race. Jeejeje your days are counted white trash, crackers, butt eaters mothafuckers.
Whitey's days are far from over? Who's going to lead the country? Obama? All his key staff is white and they're running things. When Africa, Central America, and South America are able to produce countries that don't implode, then maybe I'll have some confidence that non-whites are effective leaders. When Blacks and Hispanics are in charge in America, they're running a system that they didn't create. The whites set up the table.
whites ruined the economy and also scammed people out of their money....look at all the foreclosures, the whites gave people subprime loans...look at GM, assholes didn't properly plan for anything now they're laying off people in record numbers...the truth hurts, you people need to step aside before we turn into a third world country...you can only be stupid and greedy for so long...
Latin America is primarily run by whites, actually. I have yet to see any evidence that Sonia Sotomayor is non-white, for the matter. Her cultural/ethnic affiliation is European.
If by whites you mean europeans, then yes you are correct. Many of the Latin American countries are still under a colonial-type system (much like India and Jamaica are to Britain) to Spain. Most people don't think of it as such, but almost all Spaniards are white, and many are blonde. The ones that aren't blonde have black hair, but are still white. (Julio and Enrique, Pau Gasol, Marta Sanchez, Segio Garcia, Penelope Cruz, Antonio Banderas, Benicio Del Toro... All of them are so called "white".
"slickkapone"! I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU! RACIST WHITEY'S DAYS ARE COMING TO AN END! THEIR WHITE SUPREMACIST ERA IS BEING OVERWHELMED AS WE RAZA ARE ANNUALLY GROWING TENFOLD AS WHITEY IS NO LONGER PROCREATING, NOT EVEN AMONG THEIR OWN KKKINFOLKS OR POSSUM HUNTING DAWGS! WHITEY IS A PO PISS DYING "RACE", ...AND THEY KNOW IT! JUST GIVE IT TIME MY BROTHER! SOTOMAYOR CONFIRMATION IS A DONE DEAL! WE ARE ONE MORE STEP TOWARDS THE BROWNING OF RACIST AMERIKKKA!
I like her because she tells white people to kiss her Hispanic ass and they do, and with a smile!! She knows how to control and manipulate whites, that's what it's all about!!!
No...I don't know, Sotomayor. Does anyone know? Nice recovery though. Glad you're a wise Latina, your experience with cleaning up after your big mouth apparently payed off here.
don't we need more la raza judges? she is a racist and thats it. get ready for more affirmative action rulings and more racism towards white Americans. go back to puerto rico!!! they need you more than we do and take obama and drop him off in kenya.obama has already split this nation and is ripping the heart out of it.
Is it me, or, does Sotomayor not look like that serial killer from a while back, Richard Ramirez? (I think they called him the night stalker, or, hillside strangler or some gory title)
whoops! July 15th 2009!........so sorry i was LOL! at the ~ magical elite messages they were showing Mz. I just wish she was easier to look at. Classic old ugly fat mexican. Typical.
But, the GOP senators need to stop the stupid grandstanding and abuse. They sound like classic uneducated thin-skinned liberals.
Move on. She is already 'in'.
However, the democrats will have a rough time indeed during mid-term elections with the destruction of the economy. Obama is a disgrace. He is bankrupting this country and will turn us into Brazil 20 years from now. Very sad for the younger people indeed.
Judge Sotomayor's statement is not racist, she is just wrong. Second, I would hope that a wise white man with the richness of his experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a Latina woman who hasn't lived that life.
Hahaha. Did you see her slam dunk of idiotic Senator Sessions by pointing over her shoulder to her "good friend Judge Cedarbaum"? Hahaha. Who said the news isn't funny. I haven't laughed so hard since monkeyboy Bush showed up in that flight suit looking like one of the Village People!

sure there is. Lots of good can come of it. She could vote to suspend habeus corpus for republican nubs like you, she could vote with Scalia that waterboarding isn't "punishment" under the Constitution, she could vote to put all you domestic terrorists in Gitmo. How is any of that bad? Its about time you a-holes got a taste of what you've been demanding. Welcome to equal protection, tool. Where the laws you impose on others are imposed on you. Good bye. Say hi to castro for me, terrorist.

Competition has been destroyed in the US. We now live in a world in which the hardworking are held back so that the mediocre can "succeed". This is communism at its finest. This is survival of the UN-fittest. Completely anti-evolutionary. As a nation we will fail under this philosophy.

i'm not racist at all...you may think i'm racist because of my comments, i just want what's best for America!!! it's time for a change, we need to get our competitive edge back, the world is laughing at us because of Bush...can't you see, don't run from the truth...
And you think whats best for america is to blame everything on whitey? THis while blacks in housing projects refuse to work while taking big bucks from tax payers through welfare? This while Affirmative action CEOS helped ruin the economy as well? And how about all these people coming in from other countries to take away the few jobs left. 40% of African Americans are unemployed because of illegals and instead you want to sit and gripe about white people.
u RETARD...they're unemployed becuase no one will give them a chance...its tougher than ever to get a job now and days...u need a degree to work at mcdonalds now
Bush is the one that started this crap. His era was the beginning stages. They had already said that Bush's crap would lead to this. now Obama has been thrown in to try and clean up a mess that he didnt make and be blamed for it and thats not rite
All this crap got started with long term consequences from Dem policies. (taxing businesses, landlords, ETC, punishing success, rewarding failure) Those have long term consequences. the problems all started when Clinton was about to leave office. Bush Inheirited it.
He's been gone for sometime and we still have this problem.

if people would take the time to read about the founding fathers and how they set up the constitution remember they set it up so it would be hard to change so libs and dems and progressives came up with a new way to do it make it a living doc. then they could go around the people and reps and see things that were not there thats why she is dangerous they change the constitution without having to amend it
You guys are stupid for listening to this chopped off comment.. Right after she said this she says this is not how she would do it.. something alone those lines.. stop looking for un-bias news on Fox. I watch them for laughs lol
I don't trust this woman. First of all, she makes this speech about judges making policy, which isn't true, judges really don't make policy, but the second is this other speech that she made in 2001. I don't care what you people say and how you see it, to me, it looked pretty darn clear she was saying something racist to whites. You can't tell me that saying, "my experience as a latina woman makes me better qualified then a white man," is perfectly harmless. I don't feel right about her.
Note: nothing you liberals say to me will change my mind, got it? You can curse, you can laugh at me, mock me, but the truth I believe by God is that this woman isn't the best for America.
I'm glad everyone in the room can get a good, hearty laugh at her comments - because it certainly is not very funny to me.
She was right when she said that judges are not supposed to make law. But as she stated, they do - all the freakin' time! It's not right, it's not constitutional, and it damages our country every time a judge exercises the unbelievable gall to step above his own authority and use his office to "make policy".
Wake up, Americans! This is how our freedoms are stolen...
It wouldn't matter which woman Obama picked for the Supreme Court. GOP dumb-shits can only handle women as dumb as Scarah Failin as their LACK of masculinity doesn't feel threatened then. But, if you find a woman that's intelligent as Sotomayor or Hillary, they feel threatened, become full of hate & show their well-known hypocrisy.
The dumb-shit GOPs have to face the FACT Sotomayor WILL be nominated, because if she isn't, the GOP will lose the ENTIRE Hispanic & women vote in 2010 & 2012. LOL!
thanks utube. as a conservative i can not believe that the conservative party has let itself be taken over by a bunch of racist buffoons. read below. is this the effect of home schooling? christian bible schooling? no schooling? or are these biggots simply retarded and because of government cutbacks they are not getting that special help that they desparately need.? whatever the reason the party needs to flush itself of this contaminated filth. it is embarrassing for the party and to me.
thanks utube. as a conservative i can not believe that the conservative party has let itself be taken over by a bunch of racist buffoons. read below. is this the effect of home schooling? of no schooling? or are these biggots just retarded and because of goverment cutbacks they lack the special care they need? whatever the reason i think that the conservative party needs to flush itself of this contaminated filth. it is embarassing to the party and to me.
All right brother, believe what you want. It's a free country. I actually believe that it is you who are hopelessly living in the past and afraid of the future, but I really don't mind. Peace.
"an emotional attachment to justice." Once again, you haven't been around the Law enough. I know it's easier to believe the Law is Perfect, aloft like a Platonic Ideal above us. But the Law is an accumulation of human experiences which has to be challenged day in and day Out. The Constitution, is our great Master Plan, pointing us in the right direction, but if you think it will give us answers for every human experience, then I suggest you have been hoodwinked. life is not that simple.
Once again, i just think it's laughable that people think she's trying to be "above" White (a funny concept in and of itself) when all she is saying, if you listen carefully, is that she is validating her personal experience as a Latina woman, a n experience which is distinct from White American Experience. is that really so threatening? America's is changing. Don't be afraid: you're apart of it too. Peace.
"she is validating her personal experience as a Latina woman"
What do you mean by validating her experiences? Time for you to start speaking some sense wanealy and not throw vacuous statements around. Tell us what she meant by a "wise latina" can reach a better conclusion than a white male.
Let me use a simple example. As a 32 year old Black male whose worst crime has been getting a speeding ticket, I am nevertheless more wary of police officers than many of my white peers. I have been harassed, had guns pointed at me, been told by a cop that he would "get me next time" (since he couldn't find a way to pin anything on me,etc...). I do not like this, but it's the truth. Were I to be a judge, do you think those experiences would affect my reliance on police testimonies? obviously
"Were I to be a judge, do you think those experiences would affect my reliance on police testimonies"
Well you would be a terrible choice for a judge because you admit bias and entering a case without an open and neutral mind you are all but conceding the case. You would be making mistakes based on your bias. Let alone a Supreme Court justice, that should require the highest level of impartiality. It is why she is a bad choice for the Supreme Court.
Once again, you're missing the pint: a blind reliance on the intehrity of policie testimony is ITSELF a bias and completely ignores reality. For example: cops routinely use the "obstruction of adminstrative of justice" charge when they can't come up with a reasonable one. Believe me, in my community, if you look wrong at a cop, you'll get a charge. the level of excessive use of force and tampering of evidence is obscene. You can't be that naive!(though you can choose to be, i guess...)
You clearly have a problem with authority, not all cops are good but the overwhelming majority are. You're arguing about cops for argument sake, maybe your community ought to give police officers more respect instead of challenging them every chance you get, it seems there is a hidden instinct in your culture about disobeying authority, maybe it has to do with history of Africans and how they were abused by authority.
Once again, you have normalized your experience with the cops as Universally valid. I certainly don't hate cops: in fact there are many in my community who I believe are the pillars of my little society. however, i've unfortunately had completely unprovoked experiences with cops that I have to be aware that they are not necessarily here to Protect and Serve me. if only you knew me: i'm actually an advocate of nonviolence and HATE guns.
But shouldn't we give cops the benefit of the doubt, it's not like they're out there to get black people. They do the best they can with the tools and abilities they have which are limited and therefore bound to make mistakes and will always make mistakes. Our duty is to make their jobs easier not harder with our attitudes, sometimes cops just want to know what people have in their car or if there's something suspicious but our laws demand the impossible from them.
I absolutely agree that every cop deserves the benefit of the doubt. they have incredibly hard, stressful lives and I always keep that in mind. however, I've been an unprovoked target enough that it has literally re-arranged my response to them. When I see a cop, I don't think safety, I think "great, what the hell am I in for now!" I've actually gotten to the point that I react in a comically positive manner when a cop treats me with dignity: it's such a rarity; it makes me want to celebrate:)
Just one experience. a couple of years ago, I was walking home from worfk when a cop car screeched to a halt, a cop got out screamed at me to get on the "fucking floor, serached my bag (I was actually reading a book on Gandhi at the time) and released me with a sneering look without so much as explaining why he did so or excusing himself. 2 blocks later, i saw the suspects: true enough they were Black but they were both huge compared to me and neither had glasses which I wear.
That experience is "standard" for me. I have been stopped by cops evry yead since I turned 16. I'm just making the simple claim that unfortunately, I know many cops don't see me as the "educated black man" that I am: they just see another potentially dangerous suspect. Thus, I have to be careful. Every black person (especially black males) knows this.
That doesn't mean I would IGNORE the law. of course not, but having experienced harassment myself, I probably would be less "automatically" trusting in official police accounts. That knowledge adds to wisdom, and that is the only thing Sotomayor is pointing out: I believe that the Latino American experience is particular. Adding diversity of points of views to the court is a good thing, not a thing to be feared.
You see what conservatives often mean when they say "ovjective" really is "viewed through the lens of a white male." That is the only reason why they are threatened by Sotomayor: while claiming that they're standing up for "the best possible Justice" what they really mean is, "why the hell do we have to share power with a latina woman." This is of course, a broad brush, and a lot of it is somewhat unconscious, but believe me, a lot of this griping about Sotomayor has some pretty ugly roots.
There we go with identity politics, no two white males have the same experiences you can't judge based on skin color. I am a white immigrant does that lens apply to me?
You see bias because you yourself are biased. You have let you experiences corrupt your judgment and you will forever have this prejudice against white males. I think Sotomayor is a biased candidate and we'll have to see if she's any smart, but based on her statement I am not holding my hopes high.
I had to laugh at the "you have prejice against white males" line: That was rich. What i am is not naive. You can choose to believe we are a colorblind society, but to me that is like believing in santa claus. by the way, I probably have more white friends than I have blacks: this is not about personal animosity: it is about structural injustice.
You keep pointing out my bias which i readily agree to, and yet you keep willfully ignoring yours and believing that you actually are free from bias. That's the problem here. But frankly, it is indeed a free country so, believe what you want to belive. I suspect at the end of this you will think of me as some sort overly educated "libtard" and I won't have made any headway. that's unfortunately the problem in American discourse:
I absolutely have no bias against reasonable honest black men or women. I would treat them equally as their white counterparts, no more no less. You can believe me or not, but it's why I can speak without fear to call it as I see it, I may make mistakes in my judgment but who is perfect. To answer your question I have no intention to call you libtard and I have no bias against you I just think you are wrong.
Neither of us is perfect brother, and sure, w'll have to agree to disagree. I do have to say this has been one of my better Youtube dialogues. Most people descend into shouting at the first sign of disagreement. I just want to let my conservative friends know that many of us "liberals" and "progressives" care deeply, think deeply, and love this nation just as deeply as they do. American experience though, is complex. Peace.
No nobody is perfect but random bursts of bias and deeply rooted ones are different, well I hope we can all get beyond that. Well of course you care deeply about the country I would give you the benefit of the doubt on that, we just have slight disagreements :)
Very well, I think we have exhausted most of the discussion points and it is time for me to do some work. You take care.
And by bias, I did not mean personal bias, I mean philosophical bias. Liberal vs. conservative: we all come with a commitment to different values which informs our thinking. To deny this is to live in self-delusion.
I am a non-conformist, so I don't inherit any philosophical bias, yes there is bias but I just like to hold Supreme Court Justices to a really high standard. I just have high standards to be frank and I am easily agitated by these type of remarks, it's like she slapped all white males in the face with that statement. I am much more of an idealist in that regard and I this woman seems quite a bit below my standards but I hope I am wrong.
I wish you were right brother, i seriously do. However, that simply is an ahsitorical approach. Your veneration of justice as "colorblind" is admirable but incorrect. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree but anyone who thinks the Constitution has been applied equally to people of all races hasn't studied enough history.
And the only reason you feel aggrieved about her statement is because it is actually so rare to see someone of Latino descent get to her level.
I am proud to be American, but the Black American experience is different than the Latino American Experience, which is different from the White America experience. The point is not to discriminate but to acknowledge reality. People like Scali like to argue they are colorblind when they actually mean, they take the white American experience as standard. We need to acknowledge each others' perspectives. Simply ignoring our differences is not real progress. Once we acknowledge the diversity..
You're right, I was responding to other much more extreme responses, not yours. But the woman DOES have a unique experience as a Latina. Just as I have a unique experience as Black man. just as you have a unique experience from wherever you're from. You see, when people say "colorblind" what they usually mean is that they are taking the White experience as the norm. i think it's very important to take other experiences as well.
I respect your stance, but anyone who believes that he is "in the absolute truth" and is over 21 clearly hasn't had enough life experiences. I wish you the best though. Peace.
Stop being ignorant. From Wikipedia entry on "common law":
Common law is law created and refined by judges: a decision in a currently pending legal case depends on decisions in previous cases and affects the law to be applied in future cases. When there is no authoritative statement of the law, judges have the authority and duty to make law by creating precedent.
God save us from liberal "empathy." ... For example, Judge Sotomayor apparently "empathized" more with New Haven, Conn., government officials than with white and Hispanic firefighters who were denied promotions by the city on the basis of their race. ... Let's hope she's as empathetic to New Haven residents who die in fires fought by inferior firefighters ... "Empathy," in Liberalspeak, is nothing but raw political power.
So you're equating being proud of her unique experience as a Latina as: she wants to kill whitey. Don't you think that's a tiny stretch :) This is once again why conservatives are becoming more and more the minority. Instead of focusing on the issue, they go for the low common denominator. You may win a vocal minority with these tactics, but America is changing, and you've forgotten to appeal to EVERYONE in the country. Some advice: less fear mongering. Good luck.
by the way, thanks in advance to the republican party, and everyone who is criticizing this woman!!!!!!!!
but seriously though, you are alienating the ever-growing Hispanic voting bloc by the second... Sonia Sotomayor will be confirmed regardless of this banter, and the republicans will lose the next election without the Hispanic vote.
I see quite a few posts insisting Sotomayor's intelligence is subpar, and she's made it so far in life due only to formal or unspoken affirmative action.
Are you aware she was SUMMA CUM LAUDE at Princeton? Race is sometimes factored into acceptance decisions, but once accepted, there's neither formal nor informal affirmative action for grades. Your ethnic background will not help at Princeton.
There's a lot more evidence she's exceedingly bright, but that's one strong indicator for you.
a racist? lol.... please... currently 9/10 of the supreme court judges are white, and Sotomayor would only be the third female in US history to serve on the supreme court... maybe she has a point. or maybe you just cant stand to see a non-male, non-white supreme court justice.
She is an activist judge. 60% of her rulings have been overturned by the Supreme Court. And she is a racist by stating; "I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life." Its like that saying meet the new boss, same as the old boss. New racism is no better than old racism.
This is just stupid. The Supreme Court couldn't possibly have heard %60 of her rulings much less overturned them. They would have only had to have heard her cases every term. Get your facts right.
"I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasnt lived that life.......................... ......I would hope that a wise caucasian man with the richness of his experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a latina woman who hasnt lived that life"....anything wrong between the two..its ok if a hispanic says it, but if a white said it he would be "lit up" by the media
The hispanics in the USA do not want to become Americans rather want to send large sums of money back home and spread hate about the values of the legal citizens of the USA. We need immigration reform now to stop illegal immigration and send a strong message to those in the USA that if they do not want to become Americans but rather use votes to influence outcomes. Politicians need to send a strong message that this type of behavior is unacceptable and work on immigration reform NOW.
God save us from liberal "empathy." After President Barack Obama announced his empathetic Supreme Court nominee this week, Judge Sonia Sotomayor, we found out that some people are more deserving of empathy than others.
The female Mexican Sotomayor who runs a corrupt, white-hating, kangaroo court should be immediately booted out. The only reason this spic is a judge is because she is a spic, not because of ability which she does not have and despises.
Since this filthy spic hates white Americans so much, then, as the Bible says, "Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth."
All decent Americans should degrade this spic until she is booted out.
First, as Gandhi says, "An Eye for an Eye makes the world go blind" :)
Second: please cite specific quotations of where she is virulently anti-white.
Third: I KNEW immigration was going to be brought up. As usual, it's easier to blame poor workers than it is to question the fairness of the American Economic System and how it screws both immigrants AND poor American workers. I would encourage you to broaden your analysis. Peace.
By that logic we have no right to condemn Hitler or Osama or authority to prosecute them.
"Second: please cite specific quotations"
"A latina would reach a better conclusion than a white male" - Sotomayor
"question the fairness of the American Economic System" - illegals flood the workforce market lowering cost of production raising profit margins for producers and all the way to wall street. Unwilling to work for $3/hr Americans get the shaft. Fair?
All good points: going to work now but promise I'll try to sneak back onto Youtube later on to respond. Oh, and please tell me exactly where you got the quote: context is everything my friend. I could make Bush sound like Hitler with the right quote. Peace.
1. That quote is not about non-resistance. in fact, any true adherent of nonviolence will tell you that it is resistance. There are times when people must be resisted through violence, and I acknowledge that, which is why i am not an absolute pacifist. So we agree there.
2. Once again: specific quotes. Sorry that I don't have the time to cruise CNN. You brought up the charge, so bring up the evidence.
1) Right it's about responding to violence with violence not for revenge's sake but for justice's sake, sometimes you have to respond to fire with fire when you are attacked. Gandhi was a distinguished man but his ideology has its limitations. In that regard it's just as good as any ideology.
2) The link can be found on CNN, realclearpolitics etc, can't put links here nor entire speeches, you can do your own research and find it if you wish but I am not going to do the work for you.
2. Once again, I throw it back to you. You can't just say that a person is racist and not come with the evidence. As a Black man, I am fully willing to engage in this discussion, but I feel no duty to do what is YOUR work, which is to back up YOUR charge.
I don't mean to offend or provoke, only to challenge. Glad you're willing to argue this at the level of intellect, though. Peace.
Actually, I didn't say she's a racist, another member did, you asked for a quote and I interceded. The quote that "a wise latina will reach a better conclusion than a white male ..." is prejudiced at best. The link can be found at cnn's main page, I don't know what more you expect from me. Plus I reduce quotes to keep the word count low, as I said I can't post links, so I have done all that could be done.
3. I completely agree that illegal immigrants depress the wages of poor Americans which is why unions are now trying to legalize them so that they can JOIN with poor American workers and ask for a better deal from management. You may not agree with this, but believe me, I've lived and studied this for a very long time: pitting poor foreign workers against poor American workers is the oldest trick in the book. Get the poor to fight for the crumbs while management gets away with 85% of the pie.
Unions in general do not support legalization of illegals, just because they would alienate the interests of those they represent. Yes pitting poor against poor doesn't work, but also when legalizing illegals you make the unemployment problem worse, just as a fundamental numbers problem. Look I have no problem with some mexicans coming into the country it's just that I have a problem with this many uncontrolled etc, it's an overpopulation problem.
That situation is starting to change. The AFL-CIO and SEIU are coming out with stronger pro-immigrant stances, which I would argue is better for the labor movement in the long run.
I am indeed concerned about overpopulation/capacity, but I think we need to redirect economic energy towards those that need it most. We have the funds, all we need is the political will.
It is good for business to legalize illegals because there is a larger workforce lower wages, my concern is about the Americans that are here already, what does this do for them?
If you are concerned about overpopulation then what is the first thing we can reduce? The answer is pretty obvious, you are concerned but your party doesn't do anything about it. I feel their pain too but Mexico has a responsibility towards its citizens not us.
First: no answer is ever "obvious". Life is much more complex than Black and white ( I couldn't resist the pun)
Second, what Unions are realizing is that organizing workers of all stripes (including foreign ones) they are able to extract better contracts for ALL poor workers.
Third. Overpopulation is a global phenomenon, and I would prod your obviously brilliant mind to broaden your analysis. We are all in this together, whether you want to believe this or not.
Absolutely overpopulation is a global problem, but any action has to be local we can't tell India, Mexico or China to reduce their population but we can accept less from overpopulated countries or they'll just keep growing. It's why we are in it all together that I propose to do something about it. Overpopulation is like a positive feedback problem it feeds on itself it self-perpetuates. Either some of us continue to live or we all fall into calamity.
4. If you think the US and Mexican economy are separate, you are operating from an outdated mode of thought. The Global economy is here. Corporations are Multinational entities. Our policies directly affect theirs. For example, NAFTA helped decimate the Mexican economy, which, in turn, has led to an increase in the rates of migration into the US. The Economic herd follows the Economic Prey: jobs. Our laws have to change to reflect that new reality.
Again of course it's a global economy for better or worse. Well how do you intend to adapt to that reality, I am always for adapting.
You are well educated but here is where I see the major fundamental point, the rest is adaptation or semantics.
In a world of fundamental limitations (ie resources) we see continued human growth from of all 3-rd world countries. Either your method of developing these countries will limit it or it won't.
If it will not work then we are looking at deeper conflicts and possibly WW3. Even if it does it will be a side-effect of developing these countries and not a central point of your argument/policies. Data so far has shown that 3-rd world countries will continue to rise and I just don't want to see a calamitous event that brings the population down. Humans are the only species that have to control their own population, other predators can't do it for them.
So the question is posed to you: In light of this history/events how on earth increasing illegal population from a country that can't control its own will help?
This is great and exactly where I am pushing. First of all, we must be brave enough to face the limitations of the Capitalist system. This may seem anathema to some, but it is sheer logic to many.
You keep seeing 3rd world countries as a "problem." I completely agree but we must examine how that "problem" was created. Thus the history of Colonialism which is a necessary critique to capitalism. Going to bed now, but love where your thought is going . Peace.
I don't see 3rd world as a problem, I see overpopulation as a problem.
1) You have made a lot of loose statements about issues that is hard to disagree with but haven't made an argument as to the causes of overpopulation. Are you saying it's Colonialism? What have you concluded in your examination?
2) If overpopulation in 3rd world is a problem then how do you intend to tackle it? How does that fit with accepting more illegals so that they can ask for better pay from businesses? Does that help?
About overpopulation: you're right I made a leap in logic: many people who are anti-immigrant are also freaking out about overpopulation, so i assumed you were. Apologize for the mistake. I have my own boring thoughts on overpopulation if you want, but as you can tell, I'm long winded: so be prepared for a long answer if you really want one.
About "illegals" (though I prefer the more humane "undocumented") I've already pointed out that unionizing them is my favored approach.
They can ask but if you increase the supply (workforce) logic dictates that the opposite will happen. You can ask but if there are 100 or 1000 who will do the same work for less money management is not compelled to comply and you are compelled to shut your mouth. Blacks got voting rights by asking, but if you alienate business then they leave the country, it's why our country is in such a bad spot cause our government allowed this backward thinking.
I believe that you have been taught well :) by our Economic Masters. The Supply and Demand Theory is accurate to a point, Do you know what they used to call Economics?: "Political economy" That is, there was a recognition that the market operates through political will rather than just pure "Science." a thought which is actually better articulated by the recent Economics Nobel Prize Recipient Sen. Markets are far from perfect and respond to political pressure like any other systems.
There is of course a political aspect to the way an economy operates, I am not an economic major by the way, but supply and demand is so basic.
The reason there is a political influence is because supply and demand is not a standalone system, in other words everything humans do will affect it but policy is much more direct, organized and yes sometimes predictable whereas random human activities are unpredictable. But supply and demand serves best when there is limited human policy intervention.
There is a large body of empirical evidence that our competitive ability as a nation has degraded over the years and the root cause flows from the same type of mentality where we ask business to do what it can't do. Remember J. Edwards he was going to ask Walmart to better pay its employees, well Walmart can't and be competitive at the same time. Why do you think companies have moved overseas or south of the border?
Look, i feel for business. but business has to feel for labor as well. The Supply side (business oriented) economics of the past 30 years has left us crashing on the shores of reality. If we don't empower workers and give them adequate wages, how will you get Demand? You can make a business as prosperous as possible, but if it doesn't pay workers enough, they wont have enough to keep consume and keep the market afloat...
But there is no feeling when it comes to business, a business can be run by the nicest well meaning people but if it can't compete it won't survive. The government should make sure that there are limitations but it should not limit the ability to compete in a fair market, the problem is more complex in a global economy as you have to deal with chinese or indian subsidies and so on, I am not criticizing Obama for the bailouts by the way, we just need to be more competitive.
"This complete separation of the judiciary from the enterprise of "representative government" might have some truth in those countries where judges neither make law themselves nor set aside the laws enacted by the legislature. It is not a true picture of the American system." -Antonin Scalia, for the majority, Republican Party of Minn. v. White, 536 U.S. 765 (2002)

The whites set up the table.
mathman43 2 years ago 2
whites ruined the economy and also scammed people out of their money....look at all the foreclosures, the whites gave people subprime loans...look at GM, assholes didn't properly plan for anything now they're laying off people in record numbers...the truth hurts, you people need to step aside before we turn into a third world country...you can only be stupid and greedy for so long...

Latin America is primarily run by whites, actually. I have yet to see any evidence that Sonia Sotomayor is non-white, for the matter. Her cultural/ethnic affiliation is European.
Gerkinstock 2 years ago
If by whites you mean europeans, then yes you are correct. Many of the Latin American countries are still under a colonial-type system (much like India and Jamaica are to Britain) to Spain. Most people don't think of it as such, but almost all Spaniards are white, and many are blonde. The ones that aren't blonde have black hair, but are still white. (Julio and Enrique, Pau Gasol, Marta Sanchez, Segio Garcia, Penelope Cruz, Antonio Banderas, Benicio Del Toro... All of them are so called "white".

But the Law is an accumulation of human experiences which has to be challenged day in and day Out. The Constitution, is our great Master Plan, pointing us in the right direction, but if you think it will give us answers for every human experience, then I suggest you have been hoodwinked. life is not that simple.

Once again, i just think it's laughable that people think she's trying to be "above" White (a funny concept in and of itself) when all she is saying, if you listen carefully, is that she is validating her personal experience as a Latina woman, a n experience which is distinct from White American Experience. is that really so threatening? gruppy1 2 years ago

It is why she is a bad choice for the Supreme Court.
gruppy1 2 years ago
Once again, you're missing the pint: a blind reliance on the intehrity of policie testimony is ITSELF a bias and completely ignores reality. For example: cops routinely use the "obstruction of adminstrative of justice" charge when they can't come up with a reasonable one. Believe me, in my community, if you look wrong at a cop, you'll get a charge. the level of excessive use of force and tampering of evidence is obscene. You can't be that naive!(though you can choose to be, i guess...)
wanealy 2 years ago
You clearly have a problem with authority, not all cops are good but the overwhelming majority are. You're arguing about cops for argument sake, maybe your community ought to give police officers more respect instead of challenging them every chance you get, it seems there is a hidden instinct in your culture about disobeying authority, maybe it has to do with history of Africans and how they were abused by authority.
gruppy1 2 years ago
Once again, you have normalized your experience with the cops as Universally valid. I certainly don't hate cops: in fact there are many in my community who I believe are the pillars of my little society. however, i've unfortunately had completely unprovoked experiences with cops that I have to be aware that they are not necessarily here to Protect and Serve me. if only you knew me: i'm actually an advocate of nonviolence and HATE guns.
wanealy 2 years ago
But shouldn't we give cops the benefit of the doubt, it's not like they're out there to get black people. They do the best they can with the tools and abilities they have which are limited and therefore bound to make mistakes and will always make mistakes. Our duty is to make their jobs easier not harder with our attitudes, sometimes cops just want to know what people have in their car or if there's something suspicious but our laws demand the impossible from them.
gruppy1 2 years ago
I absolutely agree that every cop deserves the benefit of the doubt. they have incredibly hard, stressful lives and I always keep that in mind. however, I've been an unprovoked target enough that it has literally re-arranged my response to them. When I see a cop, I don't think safety, I think "great, what the hell am I in for now!" I've actually gotten to the point that I react in a comically positive manner when a cop treats me with dignity: it's such a rarity; it makes me want to celebrate:)
wanealy 2 years ago
Just one experience. a couple of years ago, I was walking home from worfk when a cop car screeched to a halt, a cop got out screamed at me to get on the "fucking floor, serached my bag (I was actually reading a book on Gandhi at the time) and released me with a sneering look without so much as explaining why he did so or excusing himself. 2 blocks later, i saw the suspects: true enough they were Black but they were both huge compared to me and neither had glasses which I wear.
wanealy 2 years ago
That experience is "standard" for me. I have been stopped by cops evry yead since I turned 16. I'm just making the simple claim that unfortunately, I know many cops don't see me as the "educated black man" that I am: they just see another potentially dangerous suspect. Thus, I have to be careful. Every black person (especially black males) knows this.
wanealy 2 years ago
That doesn't mean I would IGNORE the law. of course not, but having experienced harassment myself, I probably would be less "automatically" trusting in official police accounts. That knowledge adds to wisdom, and that is the only thing Sotomayor is pointing out: I believe that the Latino American experience is particular. Adding diversity of points of views to the court is a good thing, not a thing to be feared.
wanealy 2 years ago
You see what conservatives often mean when they say "ovjective" really is "viewed through the lens of a white male." That is the only reason why they are threatened by Sotomayor: while claiming that they're standing up for "the best possible Justice" what they really mean is, "why the hell do we have to share power with a latina woman." This is of course, a broad brush, and a lot of it is somewhat unconscious, but believe me, a lot of this griping about Sotomayor has some pretty ugly roots.
wanealy 2 years ago
There we go with identity politics, no two white males have the same experiences you can't judge based on skin color. I am a white immigrant does that lens apply to me?
You see bias because you yourself are biased. You have let you experiences corrupt your judgment and you will forever have this prejudice against white males. I think Sotomayor is a biased candidate and we'll have to see if she's any smart, but based on her statement I am not holding my hopes high.
gruppy1 2 years ago
I had to laugh at the "you have prejice against white males" line: That was rich. What i am is not naive. You can choose to believe we are a colorblind society, but to me that is like believing in santa claus. by the way, I probably have more white friends than I have blacks: this is not about personal animosity: it is about structural injustice.
wanealy 2 years ago
You keep pointing out my bias which i readily agree to, and yet you keep willfully ignoring yours and believing that you actually are free from bias. That's the problem here. But frankly, it is indeed a free country so, believe what you want to belive. I suspect at the end of this you will think of me as some sort overly educated "libtard" and I won't have made any headway. that's unfortunately the problem in American discourse:
wanealy 2 years ago
I absolutely have no bias against reasonable honest black men or women. I would treat them equally as their white counterparts, no more no less. You can believe me or not, but it's why I can speak without fear to call it as I see it, I may make mistakes in my judgment but who is perfect. To answer your question I have no intention to call you libtard and I have no bias against you I just think you are wrong.
gruppy1 2 years ago
Neither of us is perfect brother, and sure, w'll have to agree to disagree. I do have to say this has been one of my better Youtube dialogues. Most people descend into shouting at the first sign of disagreement. I just want to let my conservative friends know that many of us "liberals" and "progressives" care deeply, think deeply, and love this nation just as deeply as they do. American experience though, is complex. Peace.
wanealy 2 years ago
No nobody is perfect but random bursts of bias and deeply rooted ones are different, well I hope we can all get beyond that. Well of course you care deeply about the country I would give you the benefit of the doubt on that, we just have slight disagreements :)
Very well, I think we have exhausted most of the discussion points and it is time for me to do some work. You take care.
gruppy1 2 years ago
Peace, brother.
wanealy 2 years ago
And by bias, I did not mean personal bias, I mean philosophical bias. Liberal vs. conservative: we all come with a commitment to different values which informs our thinking. To deny this is to live in self-delusion.
wanealy 2 years ago
I am a non-conformist, so I don't inherit any philosophical bias, yes there is bias but I just like to hold Supreme Court Justices to a really high standard. I just have high standards to be frank and I am easily agitated by these type of remarks, it's like she slapped all white males in the face with that statement. I am much more of an idealist in that regard and I this woman seems quite a bit below my standards but I hope I am wrong.

gruppy1 2 years ago

Once we acknowledge the diversity..
wanealy 2 years ago
You're right, I was responding to other much more extreme responses, not yours. But the woman DOES have a unique experience as a Latina. Just as I have a unique experience as Black man. just as you have a unique experience from wherever you're from. You see, when people say "colorblind" what they usually mean is that they are taking the White experience as the norm. i think it's very important to take other experiences as well.

Let me clear this up for some of you.
1) Sotomayor will be easily confirmed.

3) There is absolutely nothing that the Southern Republican Party can do about it.
Elections have consequences.

Good luck.

OUTRAGE - GOP may not filibuster.
All decent Americans should degrade this spic until she is booted out.
njattack 2 years ago
"spic". Nice going njattack, introducing a racist term into the debate. You're just showing your cards here: I think you're better than that. Peace
wanealy 2 years ago
Come on. Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth. This Mexican displayed her anti-white pro-Mexican racism in her kangaroo courts & public comments.
If someone punches me, I don't say thank you. I punch back.
If she judges the way the Constitution says to, then, I may respect this Mexican.
She can start by deporting the12 MIL illegal aliens & H-1B visa foreigners.
However, she has shown the world that she intends to continue her white-hating philosophy.
njattack 2 years ago
First, as Gandhi says, "An Eye for an Eye makes the world go blind" :)
Second: please cite specific quotations of where she is virulently anti-white.
Third: I KNEW immigration was going to be brought up. As usual, it's easier to blame poor workers than it is to question the fairness of the American Economic System and how it screws both immigrants AND poor American workers. I would encourage you to broaden your analysis. Peace.
wanealy 2 years ago
"An Eye for an Eye makes the world go blind"
By that logic we have no right to condemn Hitler or Osama or authority to prosecute them.
"Second: please cite specific quotations"
"A latina would reach a better conclusion than a white male" - Sotomayor
"question the fairness of the American Economic System" - illegals flood the workforce market lowering cost of production raising profit margins for producers and all the way to wall street. Unwilling to work for $3/hr Americans get the shaft. Fair?
gruppy1 2 years ago
All good points: going to work now but promise I'll try to sneak back onto Youtube later on to respond. Oh, and please tell me exactly where you got the quote: context is everything my friend. I could make Bush sound like Hitler with the right quote. Peace.
wanealy 2 years ago
You can find it on CNN of all places, I think you'll be able to find it easily enough.
gruppy1 2 years ago
I promised I would get back to you so here goes.
You brought up the charge, so bring up the evidence.
wanealy 2 years ago
1) Right it's about responding to violence with violence not for revenge's sake but for justice's sake, sometimes you have to respond to fire with fire when you are attacked. Gandhi was a distinguished man but his ideology has its limitations. In that regard it's just as good as any ideology.
2) The link can be found on CNN, realclearpolitics etc, can't put links here nor entire speeches, you can do your own research and find it if you wish but I am not going to do the work for you.
gruppy1 2 years ago
Complete agreement on 1.
Peace.
wanealy 2 years ago
Actually, I didn't say she's a racist, another member did, you asked for a quote and I interceded. The quote that "a wise latina will reach a better conclusion than a white male ..." is prejudiced at best. The link can be found at cnn's main page, I don't know what more you expect from me. Plus I reduce quotes to keep the word count low, as I said I can't post links, so I have done all that could be done.
gruppy1 2 years ago
Get the poor to fight for the crumbs while management gets away with 85% of the pie.
wanealy 2 years ago
Unions in general do not support legalization of illegals, just because they would alienate the interests of those they represent. Yes pitting poor against poor doesn't work, but also when legalizing illegals you make the unemployment problem worse, just as a fundamental numbers problem. Look I have no problem with some mexicans coming into the country it's just that I have a problem with this many uncontrolled etc, it's an overpopulation problem.
gruppy1 2 years ago
That situation is starting to change. The AFL-CIO and SEIU are coming out with stronger pro-immigrant stances, which I would argue is better for the labor movement in the long run.
I am indeed concerned about overpopulation/capacity, but I think we need to redirect economic energy towards those that need it most. We have the funds, all we need is the political will.
wanealy 2 years ago
It is good for business to legalize illegals because there is a larger workforce lower wages, my concern is about the Americans that are here already, what does this do for them?
If you are concerned about overpopulation then what is the first thing we can reduce? The answer is pretty obvious, you are concerned but your party doesn't do anything about it. I feel their pain too but Mexico has a responsibility towards its citizens not us.
gruppy1 2 years ago
First: no answer is ever "obvious". Life is much more complex than Black and white ( I couldn't resist the pun)
Second, what Unions are realizing is that organizing workers of all stripes (including foreign ones) they are able to extract better contracts for ALL poor workers.
Third. Overpopulation is a global phenomenon, and I would prod your obviously brilliant mind to broaden your analysis. We are all in this together, whether you want to believe this or not.
wanealy 2 years ago
Absolutely overpopulation is a global problem, but any action has to be local we can't tell India, Mexico or China to reduce their population but we can accept less from overpopulated countries or they'll just keep growing. It's why we are in it all together that I propose to do something about it. Overpopulation is like a positive feedback problem it feeds on itself it self-perpetuates. Either some of us continue to live or we all fall into calamity.
gruppy1 2 years ago
Our laws have to change to reflect that new reality.
wanealy 2 years ago
Again of course it's a global economy for better or worse. Well how do you intend to adapt to that reality, I am always for adapting.
You are well educated but here is where I see the major fundamental point, the rest is adaptation or semantics.
In a world of fundamental limitations (ie resources) we see continued human growth from of all 3-rd world countries. Either your method of developing these countries will limit it or it won't.
gruppy1 2 years ago
If it will not work then we are looking at deeper conflicts and possibly WW3. Even if it does it will be a side-effect of developing these countries and not a central point of your argument/policies. Data so far has shown that 3-rd world countries will continue to rise and I just don't want to see a calamitous event that brings the population down. Humans are the only species that have to control their own population, other predators can't do it for them.
gruppy1 2 years ago
So the question is posed to you: In light of this history/events how on earth increasing illegal population from a country that can't control its own will help?
gruppy1 2 years ago
This is great and exactly where I am pushing. First of all, we must be brave enough to face the limitations of the Capitalist system. This may seem anathema to some, but it is sheer logic to many.
You keep seeing 3rd world countries as a "problem." I completely agree but we must examine how that "problem" was created. Thus the history of Colonialism which is a necessary critique to capitalism. Going to bed now, but love where your thought is going . Peace.
wanealy 2 years ago
I don't see 3rd world as a problem, I see overpopulation as a problem.
1) You have made a lot of loose statements about issues that is hard to disagree with but haven't made an argument as to the causes of overpopulation. Are you saying it's Colonialism? What have you concluded in your examination?
2) If overpopulation in 3rd world is a problem then how do you intend to tackle it? How does that fit with accepting more illegals so that they can ask for better pay from businesses? Does that help?
gruppy1 2 years ago
About overpopulation: you're right I made a leap in logic: many people who are anti-immigrant are also freaking out about overpopulation, so i assumed you were. Apologize for the mistake. I have my own boring thoughts on overpopulation if you want, but as you can tell, I'm long winded: so be prepared for a long answer if you really want one.
About "illegals" (though I prefer the more humane "undocumented") I've already pointed out that unionizing them is my favored approach.
wanealy 2 years ago
"ask for a better deal from management"
They can ask but if you increase the supply (workforce) logic dictates that the opposite will happen. You can ask but if there are 100 or 1000 who will do the same work for less money management is not compelled to comply and you are compelled to shut your mouth. Blacks got voting rights by asking, but if you alienate business then they leave the country, it's why our country is in such a bad spot cause our government allowed this backward thinking.
gruppy1 2 years ago
I believe that you have been taught well :) by our Economic Masters. The Supply and Demand Theory is accurate to a point, Do you know what they used to call Economics?: "Political economy" That is, there was a recognition that the market operates through political will rather than just pure "Science." a thought which is actually better articulated by the recent Economics Nobel Prize Recipient Sen. Markets are far from perfect and respond to political pressure like any other systems.
wanealy 2 years ago
There is of course a political aspect to the way an economy operates, I am not an economic major by the way, but supply and demand is so basic.
The reason there is a political influence is because supply and demand is not a standalone system, in other words everything humans do will affect it but policy is much more direct, organized and yes sometimes predictable whereas random human activities are unpredictable. But supply and demand serves best when there is limited human policy intervention.
gruppy1 2 years ago
There is a large body of empirical evidence that our competitive ability as a nation has degraded over the years and the root cause flows from the same type of mentality where we ask business to do what it can't do. Remember J. Edwards he was going to ask Walmart to better pay its employees, well Walmart can't and be competitive at the same time. Why do you think companies have moved overseas or south of the border?
gruppy1 2 years ago
Look, i feel for business. but business has to feel for labor as well. The Supply side (business oriented) economics of the past 30 years has left us crashing on the shores of reality. If we don't empower workers and give them adequate wages, how will you get Demand? You can make a business as prosperous as possible, but if it doesn't pay workers enough, they wont have enough to keep consume and keep the market afloat...
wanealy 2 years ago
But there is no feeling when it comes to business, a business can be run by the nicest well meaning people but if it can't compete it won't survive. The government should make sure that there are limitations but it should not limit the ability to compete in a fair market, the problem is more complex in a global economy as you have to deal with chinese or indian subsidies and so on, I am not criticizing Obama for the bailouts by the way, we just need to be more competitive.
