  • By the people for the people to the people is called Democracy . By the goverment and Corporation for the goverment and Corporation to the goverment and Corporation is called a Totalitarian Dictatorship, democracy is where the people hold

supreme power, Democracy is a word frequently used in

British Politics. We are constantly told that

we live in a democracy in Britain when people them selfs are not really part of any decision making process

  • You talk too much good sense to be a Conservative!

  • Wow, this guy is a great speaker. Not only does he state his point well but he actually makes sense.

  • I'd love to post him my EU law reports and copies of the treaties. I doubt he's read them...

  • Who would have known. Britain has a Ron Paul as well.

  • The reality is people are more interested with what's on the TV than the future of their country.

  • I think the EU will be ruined soon, they have tried to drag us back in time into a dictatorship situation, whilst all the dictatorship countries are having revolutions to become more democratic, the EU have denied too many of us democracy, hopefully they havecooked their own goose!

  • Why isn´t this corrupt EU entitiy not beeing remove instantly before it causes more damange. We all have seen where it leads to. Who could shut down this insanity ? Every one is only complayning and crying about those idiotic life threatening EU guidelines

  • My opinion! Iran and Nord Korea are placed for injustice with these sanctions Big protest I recommend changing in FN four more Nations as a permanent members of security council IRAN LYBIA SYRIEN BRAZIL.,,,,,,,I´m not surprised that East Timor showed op at the last second and was chosen instead of Iran in a department within FN. An old APPROACH.,,,,mar kjartansson 24t blog Mingler.dk

  • I am simply pointing out the dangers of marxism and communism. What's so dissolutioning about that.Looking at your channel, who are you and what do you stand for maybe YOU should stop reading between the lines.

  • Daniel Hannan is just one of two people who i would bow down to if i had to.The other being Nigel Farage.

  • European Union is going to be one of the belligerents in WW3, after it morphs into a big government monster!

  • 1 person out of 151 hate this video. I bet that 1 person likes Dictatorship instead.

  • Soviet union ===== European union. It has evolved.

  • Krifko -- USA supported Bosnia casue they were after destroying Yugoslavia ...

CCCP if they played smart should have destroyed Britain and USA in 1988 That would be smart Move.

  • if the EU disregards pubic referenda why did they respect the referenda in france and the Netherlands in 2005 against the EU Constitutional Treaty? This guy twists facts and prefers to rely on populist speeches than the truth.

  • @Regenmacher175 That would be the case if they hadn't pushed through an almost identical treaty a couple of years later. The French and Dutch votes were clear: ‘NO’, by an overwhelming majority. Remember, the Irish voted against the Lisbon treaty, and then were forced in voting again. Meanwhile they (i.e. the EU) threatened the Irish that if they would vote against the treaty again, they would suffer severe economic consequences. The EU knows it has no popular support, and resorts to threats

  • @Krifko

Really? The EU has no popular support? That's why millions of Europeans turn out to vote in the European elections, and repeatedly return pro-EU parties to the European Parliament, by large majority? Want to have a little re-think of your position? Thought so.

You seem to be worried about democracy. Do you know what a referendum is? Are you also aware that public opinion changes over time? Bearing that in mind, why is it a problem to ask the same question again, at a later date?

  • @ContemptForYou Pathetic. The turn out for the latest EU election was 43%. Do you know what ''popular support'' means?

The US is the oldest continuing democracy. Clearly you are also grappling with the meaning of the term "oldest" (i.e. not first). Also, a "republic" and a "democracy" are not mutually exclusive terms. England was not a democracy in the sense that the US was. A hereditary monarch and an elected head of state. Pssst, look for the differences.

  • @Krifko

You did not say "continuing", but a nice back track. As is, Greece is the oldest democracy, that doesn't change. Ever.

A republic and a democracy are not mutually exclusive, but even someone as idiotic as yourself should realise exactly why democracy isn't even mentioned once in the US Constitution. Also, google First Past the Post. Also, google slavery.

Democratically elected representatives had existed in Britain for hundreds of years before the USA became a plutocracy. Try again.

  • @Krifko

Don't start talking about electoral turnout. That's the point where you start to contradict yourself entirely, because you're forced to realise that by using retard logic, US electoral turnout apparently means that there is a bare majority supporting the existence of the United States.

I suggest you go away and find out Congressional electoral turnout too before you start trumpeting "popular support", & what voter turnout really means.

The majority support the EU. Get a grip please.

  • @ContemptForYou no they dont, i suggest YOU go away and find out congressional electoral turnout, because the democrats got stomped this election. now we have a RIGHT to "trumpet popular support". now you determine what voter turnout really means..the MINORITY SUPPORTS unions, because 70% of people in the world DO NOT BELONG TO A UNION. and a union is "people being payed the same amount as everybody else, disreguarding their efforts put forth in their work." i dont think a mojority supports that

  • @elementswi2007

What the fuck are you babbling about? You clearly have no idea that the electoral turnout for the last set of congressional elections was just below 40%.

The democrats got stomped because 50 million of the reasonable, non-insane voters that turned out in 2008, stayed home.

You can't trumpet popular support when your "mandate" didn't even get 50% of those eligible bothering to vote. That's just plain old bad maths. Sorry buddy. Also unsure why you're babbling about unions.

  • @ContemptForYou so basically, everyone other than socialists and marxists are dumbasses? that the people who voted in the repbs r idiots? in fact, doesn't it say something that the people who voted Dems in did not in fact vote this year? what does that say about confidence in the Dem Party? or even more, what does that say about the obviously smart people that did not vote?

  • @tomclancy008

What? Not sure what the first half of that little rant was about. Marxists and socialists?

The fact that the Democratic vote was embarrassingly low was in large part thanks to their disillusionment with an Obama administration that they felt had badly let them down. They were expecting a public health care system, serious regulatory measures against Wall Street, and the closure of Guantanamo.

That didn't happen. Smart people got wise to Obama's feigned progressive stance.

  • @ContemptForYou Dissolutionment, one of the many tools of marxism to keep you in a permanent state of confusion, hate and anger towards your fellow patriotic man.All created by the jew to turn you against your own kind through the jewish controlled media telling you so.Other tools include, the racist card,to silence the majority for the minority, new world arts,to create art that has nothing to do with a culture or history by creating freakish figures that dont ressemble anything.it's confusion see.

  • @Sp3ckledJim

Perhaps you'd like a few moments to gather your thoughts, and then try again. Maybe try and make your post relevant in some way to the discussion - also allowing your comment to have some basis in reality would be helpful.

  • @Krifko search on wiki "Landsgemeinde" then talk...

  • Look European Union is not one party rule Like USA and China ...

Every country in EU is different , Which is a good thing ...

European Union is the greatest thing for Europe ...

Still on the right track ...

  • European UNION is the best thing that ever happened to EUROPE .... Think about it .... One economic zone , simply great IDEA is EU....

Where people are heard and listened ....

Where Police do not shot and kill citizens ... for bullshit reasons ....

Like in USA where Police runs everything //// and can kill anybody they want ...

and where PEOPLE opinion does not matter ... That is USA .

  • @aviomaster Are you saying this in earnest or in irony?

  • @aviomaster Wait, you are from BOSNIA (!) and you're complaining about violence, corruption, and lack of democracy in the US? You must be joking. You just gave a whole new dimension to the terms 'ignorance' and 'hypocrisy'.

The US is the oldest democracy in the world, show some respect.

Fix your own country first (which is one of the most corrupt nations in the world) before you make some unfounded claims about Western Europe's loyal ally.

Btw, didn't the US support you in the Yugoslav War?

  • @Krifko

Wow, that'd almost be funny, if you weren't so painfully stupid.

The USA, a democracy? Or the oldest one? Parliamentary democracy existed in Britain before America, but that's besides the point. The Greeks had the first democracy. The United States is a republic. The Founding Fathers hated, and feared democracy.

Please, don't take about corruption, the United States is the most openly corrupt nation on earth. They actually think ownership of legislators by big business is the norm.

  • It looks form the outside like the EU is some kind of faux Democratic Communism.

  • I wish all our corrupt politicians representing us (not really) in the Tyrannical eu parliament were as smart and diligent as Daniel...Respect due for Mr. Hannan

  • Amen

  • Hell come to America and run for president i'd vote for you. I think you'd only be the second British President. I know there are some pesky laws forbidding foreigners from running but I don't consider anyone from the anglo nations an alien. We need to get rid of the nuts we have put into office.

  • @Deorain We have an alien in office now.

  • @Deorain Who wouldn't?

  • Daniel please run for Prime Minister. We need your common sense approach in politics. We are fed up with the BS. we get from the present PM. Save us from this nut. Please. Vote him in Brits. Get rid of the nuts in office NOW.

  • What a mess Obama has created. It has been one big night mare since he took office. The sooner we get him out. The sooner we can get sanity back in our country .

  • Here's a man who says more, and says it clearly, in a minute or two, then Pres. Obama says in a dozen speeches that are nothing more than "jive talk".

So far Pres. Obama has not said anything that is quotable, except a single word, Change. It is probably the short est quote in history, but one that is entirely without meaning, unless you understand that it means adopting the Communist Manifesto, lock, stock and barrel. If you don't, there's nothing els he's said that's worth remembering.

  • Amen. These Obama clowns have already caused enormous damage; the ill effects of it haven't even really begun to take hold either. And the grand irony of it is that all the Obama flag-wavers are going to be the ones who truly suffer the most, and they will still curse Bush-Cheney all the while...

  • Oh, how I hate it when I make typos in these short comments! However, I am willing to lay odds that Pres. Obama cannot write a literate paper, as evidenced by the complete absence of any evidence, including when he headed the Harvard Law School Journal.

And, if anywhere he should have given a memorable speech, it was during his visit to Berlin, but there he did not have a WALL for support. But Hannan says more and says it succinctly.

  • We are in a huge mess with devalued currency and workforce. The gap between the rich and poor has grown under Labour to an obscene level.

We are forced to accept lower wages just as city traders & bankers, whom we saved with money taken from our children, are paying themselves billions in bonuses. Were expected to cap our pay just as the price of food, energy, transport, housing & all imported goods are rising rapidly, without any checks or controls. Time to vote New Labour out, forever.

  • "Peru is characterised by extreme inequalities in income distribution, with 20% of the population controlling over 54% of national income. It is estimated that around 50% of Peruvians live in poverty, and 20% in extreme poverty. "

I knew he took his template from the home of his birth (Peru.) Go back!

  • Germany is the only EU country serious about protecting democracy.

Us little Deutschlanders have a Constitutional Court that luckily refuses to recognise the superiority of EU law, does not consider the EU parliament to be democratic or indeed representative of 500 million Europeans !

EU "directives" are issued by an un-elected commission of rich burocrats and rubber-stamped by a Playmobil parliament ! This is not "goverment of the people, for the people,by the people" !

  • well, if you look at the Lisabon laws now that

are superior and over - ruling country laws

    - then what is germany doing - but welcoming them

ITS ALL THE PLOT OF THE NEW WORLD ORDER

and germany plays its part, nodding their head and taking it.....

  • "With Declaration No.17 Concerning Primacy annexed to the Treaty of Lisbon, the Federal Republic of Germany does not recognise an absolute primacy of application of Union law, which would be constitutionally objectionable, but merely confirms the legal situation as it has been interpreted by the Federal Constitutional Court. . ." (Par. 331,official English translation,German Constitutional Court verdict,30 July 2009 ).

  • Fuck the European Union as well as the government of any country that joins it without putting that to a vote of the people. If you sheep don't stand up for you rights, you will lose them! The problem is that with rights come responsibilities and too many people are wiling to give up the first so they don't have to be bothered with the second!

  • Daniel- you should be leader of the Conservatives or you should join either the United Kingdom Independance Party or the British National Party.

  • "or the British National Party." - the BNP arent free market capitalists...there socialists...

  • Good but they are not Socialists either, they are Distributists. They oppose State Socialism and Free Market Capitalism.

  • BNP also wants to leave NATO and I'm pretty sure Hannan would not agree with them on that...

  • @1957Rotu But these cadres of dissenters will never agree.because unfortunately the British will always prefer the dumb s...t people to extremely intelligent and all knowing bureaucrats who will get this country running like a well oiled machine.

  • At least in the old days pirate crews got to elect their captains, unlike us poor Europeans who are forced to bow to the will of an un-elected `commission´ on the quarter deck...and pay them with our own treasure for the privilege !

Is it not hightime for a mutiny on the good ship ` Brussels ´... before they start their own navy ?

  • David Cameron needs to give you a place in the Shadow Cabinet. You have so much to add to the running of the UK. Please galvanise as many Tory MPs as possible to your way of thinking. Well done again.

  • Once again you hit the nail on the head. How come there's never anyone else in whatever chamber in the EU parliament it is that you make you speeches?

  • i watched one of the available videos of rand paul speaking. i am not impressed. he speaks about as well as i do! to get anywhere he is going to have to brush up on his image, speaking and debating skills, and like most in the medical profession, work on his personality.

i know the campaign isn't dripping with cash but i'm sure they could attract a few oxbridge students, sympathetic to the cause, to do a bit of speech writing!

  • Finally someone who can put this point of view across in English! I think that one of the major stumbling blocks of the US Libertarian Movement (Ron Paul etc) has been the inability to articulate their positions. Perhaps Mr Hannan could suggest a few of his mates to do a bit of speech writing on the other side of the pond!?

  • Agreed.

And I suggest the good Dr. Ron Paul, leave his bedside manner at the doctors office.

It's a bare-knuckles brawl these days to get ones message across.

Have a look at Dr. Rand Paul, as well.

    Yep, that's right

    RAND PAUL !!!

  • thank you for standing up for all my dad fought for in WWII. and so many others.

  • wars were fought so European powers would not be absorbed as part of a pan-European, unaccountable government with total control.

now they are clamoring to expand the control of just such a system.

  • Nicely said. Especially the comment made at the end.

  • Indeed, Mr. Hannan, an ungrateful EU owes you a debt. As Mr. Thomas Jefferson once put it, the price of liberty is eternal vigilance, and Europe has not been vigilant. Fortunately, you have been, despite, I understand, being frequently mocked and derided by the press and fellow colleagues. Thank you all the same.

  • From: The Social Europe Journal, 08' article

The right-wing Tory MEP and leader writer for the Daily Telegraph, Daniel Hannan, faces expulsion from the conservative group in the European Parliament (EPP-ED). He unbelievably compared the introduction of new powers for the EP President (German Hans-Gert Pöttering -a CONSERVATIVE) that gave Hitler unlimited power.

Outraged, were the Frenchman; Joseph Daul, and Socialists; Richard Corbett & Martin Schulz.

    UK folks input on this?

  • That is called an Old Hat.

  • Comment removed

  • Yep, this happened about a year ago, but Hannan was absolutely right.

  • Bravo Hannan.

  • Good job Dan

  • No one is arguing that the EU is a soviet system.... YET.

  • For those moaning about not having a Daniel Hannan in the USA, you missed your chance with Ron Paul - the one guy that could have saved you. We're already beyond repair here.

  • Daniel,

You make way too much sense to be a politician!

  • So true!

  • @MengersDisciple if he wasn't there we would be worse off..........

  • @manelmariarodrigues Are you really that dumb?

  • @manelmariarodrigues there is no opposition, it's just yes men........

  • The Lisbon Treaty effectively gives the EU the status of a sovereign state; all national legislation is subordinate and the national veto will be removed.

Given that no European state will have voted for the Lisbon Treaty (only Ireland was offered the chance and they rejected it) what will be the legitimacy of the European Union? How will the EU be any more democratic or legitimate than China or Russia?

  • Please, god, move to the USA, become president, kick ass.

Seriously though, great words, great man.

  • As much as I would like that, that would be... unconstitutional.

    haha

  • "No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President"

Sadly, Mr. Hannan is not a time traveler born in the late 1700s.

  • hes ours...hands off..we need him more..

when we are done with him..you can have him...lolol

  • The Ron Paul of England! rofl. Seriously, Thank you, Daniel Hannan, for speaking Truth in the face of power.

  • The more I study you, Mr. Hannan, the more impressed I become. It's also frustrating to finally find a politician who makes sense and isn't even in my country.

I suppose I can take solace in the fact that in a way you're fighting for us all. Keep up the good work!

  • Thanks Dan. Please save us the Europeople from this disgusting tyranny.

  • My thoughts, spoken by you. Thank you.

  • Voting is the only real power we as a people have, if they take that away then who knows what they'll get up to behind closed doors.
