I've always been a Glock guy, but I gotta say, that's one sexy bitch you got there. Any criminal scumbag should feel privilaged to be shot dead by such a nice looking handgun.
@SolidSam00 A defence ready 1911's can be (and I think should be) cocked and locked (round in the chamber-hammer back-safety on). In long term storage, I'd have the pistol unloaded (including mag) with the slide forward.
Thanks for the feedback. I hear where you are coming from- Before I start any video I double check that the gun is clear so that I don't make any such mistakes like your friend. Hopefully he was ok.
Thanks for the vid. Not to nitpick but it's good to look into the chamber when you safety check. I have a buddy that ejected the magazine and then "cleared" a pistol by cycling the slide and then shot a hole through his roof when he dropprd the hammer because the extractor didn't grab the round in the chamber.
I've noticed the retail jumping up quite a bit over the years; I think I payed around $1100 for the full-size a couple years ago. I must have a few thousand rounds thru Mine and it runs just perfect. The low weight of the aluminum frame makes this a great carry pistol; combine that with some Wilson Combat 8 round mags and you have quite a bodyguard with 9 rounds of .45.
If you want to keep that Kimber running, don't ever slam the slide shut on an empty chamber. Keep doing that and it will be back to Kimber in no time for a screwed up hammer/sear. Read the owners manual, Kimber says not to do it.
kimber has had a very aggressive ad campaign that has worked all to well..guys I have talked to (I owned one) say they're overpriced and won't work half the time..
Nice video.. we do ask that before you breakdown any new Kimber 3 or 4" source the kits that will eliminate any front end damage and make it easier to breakdown. NDZperformance makes just that. Again nice video and firearm.
I bought one of these a few months back. Shot 500 rounds 1st day. I am accurate as hell with it. Great shooter. Had a lot of failure to return to battery and i was getting shells to the forehead and cutting me. 200 more rounds and it functioned but shells to the head still. Sent back to kimber and they refitted the barrel, Adjusted slide stop, N lowered and flared ejection port. Now it works great.
a kimber cant compare with any colt on the market! ask kimber about the barrel rusting on their $1600.00 plus guns!!!! ha! any 1911 on the market is better than the kimber! all that custom shop BS is crap. kimber brags about carbon steel match grade barrell, assembly,! kimber, ever heard of stainless steel? extra etching per sguare inch for grip! ha! BS! the best thing on my kimber is the night sights and crimon trace laser and both are not made by kimber!!!
?? @joelyn01; The barrel won't rust with proper care; I have four Kimbers and have never had a spec of rust on any barrel. The problem is with the people who treat their pistols like a lawnmower...as Kimber states "rust is neglect".
I was just giving an opinon. The gun has a higher price point and takes more care then a run of the mill Glock, Smith, or Springfeild. I just have the thought that a first gun shold be one that is easy to care for, easy to clean and can be treated very poorly. Thanks for teh comment- You will love this gun weather its your first or one hundred and first.
I've been researching this gun for quite a while and though you think it shouldn't be someone's first gun i am surprised to hear you not mention any other guns instead , you said yourself a great gun so why not ? It shoots and specs great so because of your review this will be my first . Thanks
Such a kick ass model. I got many Kimbers to include a pro carry, a custom II, and a Eclipse pro..... I need to pick up this model as well and a desert warrior.
Man... I shouldnt have watched this review. I have been dying to get one of these ever since I saw it the first time a few years back. Thanks for the good review. Have you had any FTF problems or last round problems? I heard Kimber had some issues with the 3" barrel models. Thanks again!
Thanks man- Thats high praise given all the vids on you tube- If you have any other questions I would be more then happy to try to give you the low down- whenever I give feedback I try to give the good with the bad even if it is one of my go to pistols.
Very nice, got my first 1911... Went with Kimber pro super carry... I almost bought the 1 you have... That bob tail frame just caught my eye... I agree totally with owning another gun before you get 1 of these... Man are they fun to shoot... Fun factor 100%...
I know- I had my eye on this for a long while before I picked it up- I went to a sho to buy a differnt gun and ended up getting this with my father-in-law egging me one to put the cash on the table for it- No regets on this gun at all!
Boogiethrash- I would say that it is no more snappy than any other 45 I have. With a 1911 you do have a higher bore axis than say a glock but it is not at all "snappy" IMO. If you have shot any .40 I would call that more "snappy" than any 1911 I have shot. Get excited for your Kimber- It is sooooo damn sweet, when you unbox it your going to smile!
Getting my full size covert soon. Picked it up (similar size/aluminum frame too) and LOVED the weight but;
Was wondering from your experience is the aluminum frame "snappy" does it have a lot of kick for a midsize pistol? Great vid, Its got me chompin at the bit, still waiting for my order to come in
Beautiful gun! I want one. This will be my next.

The only thing that would bug me is the laser, can you fire it with the laser off?
PooleeDando 5 days ago
@PooleeDando yes you can turn the laser on and off- there is the switch on the handle

Nice review.
I'm just wondering, is it better to store a gun with the slide locked back like that?

I am just not a big fan of aluminum frame 1911s. Nice pistol but would prefer it with a steel frame.

And to the guy making the video, Kimber not only makes 45's but also quite a few .22's as well.
