  • Awesome

  • I want to explode with thunders of Praise with all the redeemed.

  • I was just thinking that little ol me will get to spend and eternity with these great God gifted people and I believe they will love me and you as if we are so special as they are. And we will all see Jesus praised forever as we all sing a new song. My heart is being pulled to Heaven ASAP. Lord I want to sing as they, the song of the redeemed with all my heart, with a voice of angelic majesty to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, JESUS.

  • I hope there is another Doris coming around...

  • She almost sounds like a female Randy Newman. She is a fantastic musician.

  • Karma342 ~ Thank you for posting so many of Doris Akers songs! I have been thoroughly blessed by listening to her magnificent voice and the sweet sweet spirit with which she sings! This is the way worship is meant to be!

  • I am not sure..I remember one of her nephews from the past..but his name I can't remember..I do have to correct the name I wrote for Doris's niece..The name should be Dedra..not Debra.Doris's brother was the pastor of one of the A.M.E. churches in the Southern California area, during the time that she was at Sky Pilot. Thank you for ready my book and your encouraging response. bless you. Min. Gene Viale/Cleveland Singer 64-65

  • WOW she got SOUL!!!!!

  • I knew Doris. She was a proud African American Lady. Who never denied her race. I knew, her sister, nephew & niece Debra Akers of L.A.. Called to the world, she early on found a way to let folks worry about what her race was. For some she was to white, for other to Black.. No-matter to Doris, that was not what she was about..she was called and anointed to minister Christ, to all who would hear and because of that she crossed all of man's boundries. Min. Gene Viale / Cleveland Singer 64-65

  • @justmegospel Gene, I read your book. It was great. I really appreciated what you said about all of the singers, but I really liked what you had to say about Doris. I am glad you are making your comments on this website also.

  • Magnificent..............

  • Thank you. I have been looking for someone singing the second verse. There is also a third verse, but we rarely hear it. Can someone plese put on a video with all three verses?

  • @Sydney3518 Hi, I don't have a video of anyone singing the 3rd verse, but I do have it in written form. This is the third verse:

"If you say He saved you from your sin,

now you're weak, you're bound, and cannot enter in,

    you can make it right if you will yield;

you'll enjoy the Holy Spirit that we feel".

Hope this is helpful. Doris wrote some very deep and powerful songs. The more I review her songs, the more I respect her as a committed Christian and artist.

  • Doris Akers actually was the Sallie Martin Singers pianist- for a while..Sallie told me that she brought Doris with her and introduced her to the California audience. I wrote about it in my new book "I Remember Gospel" And I Keep On Singing.min. Gene viale/James Cleveland Singer 1964/65

  • Doris was not African American... Lets just say... I would know... lol

  • Doris is one the greatest gifted singers alive. Thank God for this song; it gives great peace whenever i listen to it.

  • Doris how we miss you, you were such a Saint and gave us so much. This song touches me each time I hear it.. thank you karma342

  • we sing this song very often in my church, every time I hear this song, I start to cry.

  • This, this is what I love about the south. Black, white...whatever, it is without a doubt the birthplace of soul and heart in music. God bless you! Rock and roll, soul, gospel, and country. There is an anointing on you folks. Life is hard, and it has been lately...especially for you guys in Louisiana. But hear this, hold your head up high, walk in confidence. The Almighty is on your side...sing loud, sing proud! Love, love, love this...and there is only one place where music like this comes from

  • Back there in the back was that john hagee

  • I LOVE THIS SONG.....

    \

  • Doris Akers WAS a sista. She never tried to hide it.

  • @hafstepper Doris Akers was a sister in Christ to all of us so what's your point?

  • @bgk200127 Just answering question of others who didn't know about her. No disrespect intended as we are ALL God's children.

  • okay, tell me Doris Akers doesn't have some SOUL in her...this is an undercover SISTA!!!

  • @ThisSongILove Doris Akers WAS African American.. LOLz

  • @karma342 does it matter?

  • @karma342 wow this is amazin, i first thought she was white but i didnt know ....

  • @karma342 Yeah. There's nothing undercover about it. LOL. She's a self-identified Black woman.

  • haha, honest mistake, yeah she's a sista.. just beautiful, may she rest in peace

  • Doris Akers was African American but most people don't know it. She was POWERFUL in her ministry. Incredible song writer and the power of God would really come down when she sang and played. Be blessed.

  • What's undercover about Doris Akers? She is an African American from West Virginia. I met her family and sang at her funeral in Minneapolis! God heal us from this broken the world.

  • @ThisSongILove I was sitting here thinking the same thing...my goodness!!!! And she even plays like she got some Black in her too!!! PRAISE GOD...I LOVE THIS POST!!!

  • I am awestruck.

  • Praise God for Doris Akers.

  • It doesn't get any better than this!!!

  • I really need this video!

  • I love how she changed the entire rhythm of the song...LOL awesome composer & singer

  • this really blessed me.

  • How wonderful to know that there is another verse. I love this song.

  • How precious. What a deep, rich, soulful and powerful song and writer. Praise God.

  • It doesn't get any better than Doris Akers. I have a recording of her and her original Sky Pilot Choir that I wouldn't part with for anything. Also have her "Highway to Heaven" album that has the Jack Halloran Singers on it --- one of which was Thurl Ravenscroft, the voice of "Tony the Tiger"

  • If doesn't move you, you need to have a taxi drop you off at the nearest mortuary. This clip is beyond anointed.

  • Oh my...Doris Akers. Gotta go get the Kleenex. What a blessing it must have been to have her there! I'd love to know if this Gaither video is still available.

  • WOW!!! I Love This!!!

  • truly a blessing

  • Bill act like he didn't want to get up. She's a better pianist than Bill. First time I heard her.

  • he had to wait for the verse to end, couldn't just stop in the middle of the song

  • All I can say is My God, My God, did not my heart just burn while I sat here and listen to Ms. Akers blessed us once again!

  • Where are the song writers and singers that have this much love for Jesus. This is genuine worship. I am not seeing it today. Pray for our ministry.

  • brilliant soul does anyone know the arrangement of chords she uses in her segment amazing!!!!

  • I love, love, love this song!!! Thanks Doris, for writing it. Hugs, Mitch

  • very awesome!!! Thanks for sharing this video!

  • oh wow! age is not a determing factor for her voice...still sounds original as ever!

  • I love 3:16 when she says, "Watch now!" LOL Doris was the BEST!!

  • She does such an awesome job on this song. Brought me to tears listening to her.

  • Yes, me too! Doris Akers is as vital today, 14 years after her home going, as she was 30 years ago. Truely an annoited woman of God!

  • my heart soars!!! thank you, Jesus!!!

  • That brings back such amazing memories of her visiting Glad Tidings in the 60's ... she was an amazing leader and writer.

  • Wow, that's really cool! Thanks so much for your comment and please watch the other videos of her that I've put up. God bless!

  • Warmlandlass1 says a big HI, Mark...I love this additional verse for its marvellous treasure to be mined by us!

  • she was so pretty when she was younger and very smart for a lady who didn't know how to read music :D

she looks so cute when shes old

    x3

  • Not to contradict but she was thoroughly musically educated. SHE DID know how to read music.

  • I really don't think so. Sallie Martin (who knew Doris since she first arrived in LA in 1945) said that she didn*t know how to read a single note... and everything I have read about her indicates (including interviews with family members) that she taught herself to play by ear as a very young child.

  • Such a wonderful lady... God bless her. Beautiful song!!!

  • Love this clip! I was raised on Doris's music. My Aunt and cousin sang with her in the Sky Pilot Choir in Los Angeles. I sing several of her songs as I travel.

  • lolol btw Hovie keeps looking at her the whole time!

  • Amazing song!!!

  • Who's that next to Doris in the black with the scarf?

  • She was the co-founder, along with her husband of Grace Temple Deliverance Center in Minneapolis, MN the last church that Doris attended and where she was Minister of Music until her death in 1995. :(

  • Oh my word - what an inspiration. This had to be Divinely inspired. Her spirituality is obvious and her joy is contagious. I never was able to see her in person but thanks to this video clip I feel as if I have.

  • AWW DORIS! :) I love her! She wrote such beautiful songs...
