@RevelationXD45 Ha, I'm only 25 but all of these tracks make me feel like I'm a kid again, back in the awesome 80s! I'll be listening to this stuff when I'm an old man damnit!
such a good song!! why cant we have music like this now? im 15 this was wayy befor my time and i love all the 80s music...most music sucks now these days!!!
Too bad this song didn't get much radio play even back in the day. Too bad that the group broke up. This definately puts one in a different frame of mind. I listen to this at work, or when I need to relax. Even at work it will take me some place else. If the 80's would just come back one more time!
I feel so lucky. I live down by the sea, where mountains and cliffs and beaches and the sea and I meet, frequently. This song takes me away from all of my life's troubles any time I hear it.
Oh my...I had th LP with this song on it (when I actually had a record player!) and I thought it was lost forever once record players went out of fashion!!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!!!
~LauraG.~ (born 1971--my best years were in the 80's!)
Aaaaaah... reminds me of when I was only fourteen years old back in Brazil... and I'd daydream about Elle MacPherson. What a beautiful song. It evokes memories so hauntingly. Thanks for the post.
Saw Colin Hay in concert a couple weeks ago and he played this. Said the band had wrote the song while smoking at little weed. Joked that the original version was over 4 hours long.. LOL!!
I remember a 90's TV ad with this song (young boy+girl trying to get a photo of themselves by the seaside with a beer in their hand but an animal passing by ruins it all)...can anybody help me? thanx!
great song ... a hidden gem for me, as I never knew the song even existed up until about a year ago ...never thought they were a great band, but that has changed for me now ....
Can anyone tell me which movie this song appears in, I watched it recently but cannot remember which it was, I think it played during the end credits.
I so love this tune - On "Business as usual" I hear many references to the sea and ships. Is/was Colin Hayes a yactchy/ship enthusiast? I have "Business as usual" on vinyl and despite the sligtly silly sound to the vocals this track actually sounds o.k. when played at 45rpm!
One of the finest songs ever, most people i know only know Men at Work because of Land down under and i have to tell them that they have a lot of much better songs. This track has to be in my top 5 all time fav' songs. From the first note to the last this is first class,.... i'm a poet and didnt even know it :)
Another GREAT song that was totally underplayed (pun!).....This whole album brings me back to 1983....the smell and feel of it......incredible how some things just transport you...... " Cold and windy weather"......
G'day Oz.... crack open a few cold ones, Thanks for sharing this Beaut of a Video. I'm gonna create a Ozzie Soap night. DON'T go looking now, OTHERWISE this message becomes Spam. It's Bloody MAPS - Giving direction for enhanced veiwing Pleasure, Thus benefiting all envolved. (Hueyhog-2010)
Aww maan! Disappointed there was no vid to this. Men At Work are Aussie band, but Colin Hay is a Geordie {from the North East of England}. This track is my very favorite!
Brilliant! This & No Signs of Yesterday were both fantastic, serious pieces that naturally got no airplay, at least in the Pac. Northwest. But they were not only my 2 fave MAW tunes but two of my all time favorites.
Saw Colin at The Tractor, a small club in Seattle quite a few years ago before I moved, he just blew the club away! Great entertainer as well as songwriter!
...this song is like the ocean breeze...reminds me of rooftops and hidden treasures that someday we all seem to dig up eventually...relax...rock on "jay-jay" this song is for u!
PS- not "Yanni" but yonnie- Aust. slang for small stones- or in this case maybe sand: "yonnies in the wind"- have you ever been on a beach in winter when the wind blows so hard that it picks up small pebbles?
Saw Colin Hay about 2 months ago- going in, I said to my buddy, "I hope he plays 'Downby the Sea'"- but I didn't think he would. He opened with it. Absolutely hypnotic- very faithful to the original, just no sax.
I highly recommend seeing him, the old MaW stuff is as good as ever and the new stuff is great. He has not lost a bit of his voice.
Everything about this song is perfect. The percussion, guitars, voice, words. Yanni's in the wind... Haha. Has he been around that long? This is 1 of my favorite cuts from the Business As Usual album.
What's a yonnie?

By far their best song. Pity they didn't stick to this sound rather then go down the 80s generic pop direction as they did.
