  • he studied 30 years and he became a master not 17 years. because he said in his interview that he took lessons from his dad for 15 year. and he went to India studied up there 15 years from ashiq ali khan

  • he studied 30 years and he became a master not 17 years

  • kya baat hai

  • Nice video and documentary may Ustad Mohammad Sarahang rest in peace.

  • SubhanAllah, what a voice

  • Ustad Sarahang loved all Afghans, if they were Pashtuns, Hazaras, Uzbacks or Tajicks and he is loved by ball Afghans: Pashtuns, Hazaras.......I am a Panjshiry and have hundrets of Pashtun friends. All of them are proud of Ustad Sarahang's legacy. You can read that @FAaRHaAnN first write soething insulting about the Great Ustad and then he attacks our Pashtun brothers and sisters as response. It.s easy to recognize from their writing style, that they are Pakistanis. Ustad Sarahang Fakhre Afghan

  • The people in Egypt, Tunisia, and Libya are using the Internet to fight for their rights and to unite themselves against dictators and injustice. Unfortunately the enemies of Afghans,Pakistan's ISI and Iran's Intelligence Service are using the internet to divide divide Afghans. They disguise theme selves as Tajik, Hazara or Uzback and write insulting staff against Pashtuns or they disguise themselves as Pashtuns and attacks the Tajiks, Hazaras and Uzbacks with insulting slurs.

  • Gold Medal? what this a wrestling much ? Please don't turn history into a story. Do you even know who Bade Ghalam Ali Khan is? Perhaps not, otherwise you would not say that in your , so called, documentary. Keep in mind that Ustad Sarahag Studied music for ONLY 15 or 16 years and that was it. Ustad Bade Ghalam Ali Khan Sahib was MUSIC. Don't say that Ustad Sarahg got a Gold medal. Enough that we are the laughing stock of Indians when it comes to music, don't add to that.

  • @bay1soree2maraz3ast Just because Ustad got a gold medal doesn't take anything from Usatd Bade Ghalam Ali Khan which I'm sure had more accomlishment anyways. I think in that one confernce or meeting what ever you call it it was given to Ustad Sarahan. My elders tell me that Ustad him self was a big Bade Ghalam Ali Khan fan and also was inspired by his music. Anyways both both of them are legends and lets remember them as that.

  • ګرانه استاده خدای دې جنتونه په پرخه کړه. په رښتیا چې فخر د افغان یې

  • i never get tired of listening to this amazing performance . He is a lost treasure.

  • i never get tired of listening to this amazing performance . He is a lost treasure.

  • حقیقهً استاد سرآهنگ گنج شایگان و بزرگی بود که ما قدرش را ندانیستم . به معنی دیگر بسیار از سویهء هنری عام پسند ما بسیار بالا و متعالی بود . روحش شاد باد .

  • BABA-E MUSIQEE!!!

  • Hey !!!!! Usta Allah Rakha's hand does not produce that pitch. This is clearly a different Tabla Player. But what a complete and accurate performance by Ustad Sarahang.

  • @mjmbrumi You are right, this isn't his type of playing. But this is alla rakha because back then they didn't use microphones. Also this was a memorial for the death of Ustad Sarahang's and Ustad Bade ghulam ali khan's ustad, Ustad Ahiq Ali Khan. So it would'nt be right if Alla Rakha is the shining preformer of the day.

  • I think he was the best Musican in Classical Rags he also get alot of awards in india.

    Good Musican!!!!1

  • omg this is called a real ustad...ustadoo ka ustad

  • Ustad Sarahang deserves a lot of respect and someone like Ustad Allah Rakha should have accompanied him. However, at a fleeting moment you can see the Tabla player in this video and it is a different person. In either case, it would not add to, or diminish his greatness. Ustad Sarahng intertwined Bedel's poetry with Indian Classical Music, something no Indian Ustad could have done, or would have wanted to do. It seemed that in this video a great attempt was made not to show the Tabla player.

  • The video is not of this actual performance but a clip from a TV programme. That said, I still don't hear Alla Rakha's 'hand' on the tabla here.

  • Thanks for commenting. Allah Rakha or no Allah Rakha, Ustad Sarahang is one of the greatest classical singers Afghanistan has ever produced, and for me that is good enough. I listen to his songs, analyze the lyrics and enjoy it immensely. I do not believe he was the best of the East nor he walked on Indian girls' hair. Often we Afghans over exaggerate what little we have, from Ahad Zahir, to Ustad Sarahang to Afghans defeating Russians, etc. Why can't we accept ourselves the way we are?

  • its not allarakha

  • unbelievable....

  • Ustad Sarahang was a great classical singer. However don't forget that it takes several decades to master this art and Ustad Sarahang only spent about 17 years in India learning it. He did great for the amount of time he spent there. Once he was in Afghanistan he didn't really practised classical music because firstly, he didn't have other masters around him and secondly he didn't have good listeners. Let the truth be told.

  • @afgpiece he was our great Ustad and also we ware and will be listening his great raags. My allah bless him and us.

  • @afgpiece You don't even know what you are talking about. Please no nonsense. Don't make a fool out of yourself. He was not just another Ustad he was sartaji musiqi and then father of music these titles were given to him by Indian ustads. He was a legend.

  • the begining of this raaga is one of the most fantastic moments in music I've ever heard! A true master...

  • I would like to inform that sadly, ustad M.H sarahang passed away due to a severe heart problem in kabul after being hospitalized in "ibn-e-sina' I along with hundreds of people were present in his jenaza,i also would like to let you know that he was very much respected by every governments in afghanistan including the"communists".maybe you don't like my coment.but this is the truth.

  • The tabla player is in fact Ustad Allarakha Khan. I've heard the entire recording before. Ustad Allarakha starts out by introducing Ustad Sarahang, and Ustad Sarahang tells of how me came to be under Ustad Ashiq Ali Khan's tutelage.

  • even i agree with "afgpiece" the punch of tabla is not that clear and effective, may be someone else on tabla. Otherwise great piece to hear, great Agra gharana piece. liked it.

  • doesn't sound like ustad allah rakha's tabla.

  • do these ragas have mean in hindhi ?

  • Zrahin!!! I think Karwizz is right. Although u r not totally wrong also, but you can provide solid proofs for a better explanation. Plz do not only rely on the Internet sites, which I find you do...thanx

  • my proof is only in what I have learned from my gurus in several music traditions including Patiala and Mewati. I challenge anyone to dispute what I have written.

  • The (2months ago) comment was just to make you argue more and with examples about your earlier comments with "Karwizz". It was not serious. Peace!

  • ah...LOL I got it.

  • He had health problems, and after his death they found a note in his hand where he scribbled " it was good that you came, my eyes were brieghten after seeing you"

  • The great Ustad Sarahang was jailed by the motherless communists of Afghanistan after he released a song showing their stupidity and ridiculed them. Sadly he was tortured in prison and beaten over the head and electrecuted. The torture caused him to lose his sight and obviously he never sang again. He may have had a heart attack after that, but lets not forget the imprisonment and torture.

  • The night before he died, they showed him on TV where he was hospitalized due to a heart attack. He never lost his sight or stopped singing. Three months before his death (December 1982) he performed in India. Please stop writting this kind of nonsense.

  • ok, do you think that they were actually going to tell the afghan population that they tortured him? what government shows its people the bad things that they do? the communists were and still are dogs.

  • How did he really pass away? I've heard other stories.

  • as you all know Ustad Mohammed Hussain Sarahang sang lots of "rare" ragas, such as GungiKauns, Gawati, Bhop, Ramkali and he also made some of his own...

2 off the top of my head are Mina Mani (very close to Shivranjani), and Hazrat.

  • expect Gungikauns, the rest are very common hindustani ragas. Shivranjani was not made by Ustad Sarahang, but Hazra not Hazrat was created by him.

  • read closely i didnt say he created shivranjani!

gawati and gungikauns, neither is Bhop (bhopali is different) are not very common!

    it was MINA MANI

sa re ma pa ni(black key)sa

acending and decending are the same!

    hazra was a "typo"...

    how about...

    Hindol

    Hemawati

    ??

  • Bhoop and Bhopali are the exact same thing, but rag Bhupal is different and is a rare raga. Hindol is common too, so is hemawati. People don't sing hemawati as much anymore.

  • man u really dont stop...

    lol.

    well how about HARIKAUNS?

and bhop and bhopali and differnt ragas, i say this b/c i have a recording where USTAD SARAHANG clearly says "now i am singing raga bhop, not bhopali - very similar, but differerent ragas"

  • OK I will stop, but let me tell you that Ustad Sarahang would never make that mistake. Harikauns is rare because Malkauns is dominant in the kauns ragas. If you change Madham and Dhiavat in Malkauns to Tever Madham and Shudha Dhaivat you get Harikauns.

  • Per the last comment from Karwizz(N.Z.)he's right, this is not Alla Rahka and I know his father...he's the one who released it. Ustad Sarahang was one of a kind, and unfortunately he was not appreciated in Afghanistan. Thanks.

  • I beg to differ. Ustad Sarahang was greatly appreciated in Afghanistan and there will never be another like him. As a result of the Afghan system of music, the musicians were not greatly rewarded and thus most lived a poor life. Being rich and appreciated are two different things.

  • No word, no mind can describe this beauty of Lyric.

Only the Kharabat of hearts and the source of inner soul.

  • wahhh Amazing!!!

  • wah wah, two great Ustands. What a beauty.

  • If I am not wrong it is based on Raga Kalawati not "Gawati" as mentioned in the title. Please correct the title if the problem is also with the name of the Tabla player. But it is a very good idea to promote Ustad Sarahang's music. Good job!!! Aimal

  • Actually both "Kalawati" and "Gawati" are ragas of "Khamaj thatt",plus Gawati is rare so I think I am confused... PLEASE correct us and explain raga GAWATI if some1 knows! Thanks

  • This is not kalawati at all. Gawati was made famous by Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Sahib of Patiala. He paid a homeless person in Lahor five rupees to note it from him. I have personally heard this from Pandit Ajoy Chakarvarty who was the student of Munawar Ali Khan Sahib(Son of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan). It is less than 60 years old rag. It's a very adhoc rag in the repetoir of hindustani ragas. The phrases in this rag are somewhat limited becuase of the avrohie S-Dn PD-mP-GmRS.

  • U r absolutely correct! It s may be bcoz we wanted you to argue on issues of ragas... lol although "Karwizz" was arguing with you on the difference between "Bhoopali" and "Bhoop", which are both the same...both nothing all to argue with you on "Gawati"... Thanks any way.

  • i am sorry to say that the tabla player is not USTAD ALLA RAHKA, but a student of his that i dont have the name too.

and the Sarangi nawaz is USTAD SULTAN KHAN,

i know this because my father recorded this is INDIA, and my father released this on a CD.

    thanks.
