I've been watch some videos of Andre Rieu. It's amazing how anyone can actually like this man when people like Julia exist. The comparison is so great they may as well be on different planets. She is incredible.
when i read this, the beastie boys song, Intergalactic started playing in my head. AFTER i spent the last day in a half trying to get it out. thanks a lot.
In response to "Gaspar795": do you really believe what you say?! What you imply is crude and not at all true. Before you come out and speak your own thoughts, you might want to consider the validity of it. Your remarks about Julia are crass and completely unneccessary. If you don't appreciate her contributions to Music, then say so....don't give a full-blown rude and degrading explanation. A word for the wise: "Think before you speak"; in this case type your comments for the whole world to view
it seems after watching this video, that this is a tremendously talented violinist who just happens to be a beautiful, intelligent woman - such a combination doesn't usually rub people the wrong way!
i certainly did not get the impression that she is represented as a sex symbol, or as anything other than as an artist - sure, there are photographs of this beautiful woman throughout the video, but that is far from irregular when promoting any artist, attractive or not.
... wow, the sexism in this comment baffles the mind. A woman has to be insignificant-looking in order to be talented? Are you -joking- with this?
There is nothing at ALL wrong with a woman wanting to look her best -- and it doesn't detract from her talent at all. You have a lot to learn about women, my friend, and once you do you will be the better for it.
If you read what I said you wouldn't come out with such rubbish. And you are putting your words into my statement. Go back and read it, and if you don't understand it say so.
I did put the blame on the promoters and record companies who want to sell the most products by depicting talented people (beautiful or average) as sex symbols.
People have talent and can be gifted - no matter how they look.
I quote: "I wish you nice beautiful female fiddlers would not allow yourselves to be sold as sex symbols! [...] Wear dull clothes and try and look insignificant, not like the latest models. Then you may play even better."
I think it's you who doesn't understand the implications of what you say. Have you ever thought for a moment that perhaps women -like- looking beautiful when they play? I don't think she's being -promoted- as a sex symbol (or is one) at all. She's just a beautiful girl.
Sorry this is unrelated, but I loved how the guy threw the bottom of her skirt to make a more dramatic picture. I don't know why; it just made me laugh. :D
It's interesting what she says about modern interpretation because I think her playing is less lusty than the other violinists with recordings of Bach or Vivaldi. One example is Mutter. She plays everything so romantically and compared to her, Fischer is rather period in her playing.
whether she is or not does not matter. Bach goes beyond religious structure(even though he was deeply religious), into a principle of creation which is mysterious and beyond reasoning. If something approaches the mystery of creation is Bach's music. Whether it's religious or not, it makes no difference, that is open to your very own interpretation. It's universal and eternal. I'm Agnostic, but I recognize there r hints of the "Unknown" in his music.
i love what she says about freedom of style. i mean just because people supposedly played that way, why should we still play like that? i mean playing has evolved like technology. isn't it obsolete? so why play in the authentic style (which i find uninteresting and inferior)?
Julia, you are wonderfull ! Thank you for your elegance, your music and your humanity ! Beautiphul to see such a talented musicina beeing so generous with other and sharing what you learned in life ! You deserve you sucses ! MS
OMG!!! THIS IS GREAT!!!! LOVE IT!!! but if u wanna hear violin to the max, then u should check out this gruop called the baroque boyz and there first song called turn-around!!!!!
bach concertos tend to have solos that are really rhythmically and melodically clear, so often it's easy enough for the rest of the orchestra to keep up without needing an actual conductor.
also, since most of the parts are strings, violinists know how everything works, so they aren't afraid to give out instructions on interpretation and expression and such -- which is normally the task of a conductor.
i can't believe i missed her concert in vancouver last month :(
julia! i love you so much!..you inspire a lot people...i won't compare you to other great violinist out there because i know you have a unique way of expressing yourself as a true artist with very elegant mannerisms in every way....i love you
A Guadagnini from 1750. That's the only violin she owns at the moment. She did use to play the Booth Stradivarius on loan from the Japan music foundation but not anymore.

"I wish you nice beautiful female fiddlers would not allow yourselves to be sold as sex symbols!"
That is OK, such is the market. Women want to look beautiful too. Sex and beauty is hard to separate.
In the end, looks does not make much of a difference. Play damned good, or you are out of the music scene.
She is in!
sormu16 2 years ago 3
We obviously disagree - I'm convinced she is being sold as a sex symbol by the promoter/record company.

I wish you nice beautiful female fiddlers would not allow yourselves to be sold as sex symbols! I know its the promoters and record companies fault.
The music is the thing. Wear dull clothes and try and look insignificant, not like the latest models. Then you may play even better.
