I've been to Tbilisi in 1988, when it was still part of USSR and I am puzzled by the way it changed in a very positive way. I've been around in the whole world and never experienced such a hospitality anywhere else. So I think the georgian people deserved the improvement of their country.

I also remember how there were people shooting in my neighborhood with AK's, & how it sounded as they would fire their guns and yell. And back then EVERYONE hated the cops b/c they were so corrupt. I remember back then we all huddled around the oven to keep warm, and there were no cars anywhere. It was a bad winter one year as well. Everytime I go back it makes me so happy- little by little Tbilisi's improving. I can't even recognize it anymore! Sorry for the long post, I just felt nostalgic.

I remember Tbilisi in the 90's: there were no lights anywhere, we had to use kerosene lamps (I used them to do my homework), there were drug addicts and criminals running in the streets, and no one bothered paying for electricity since the government (COUGH Shevardnadze COUGH) only gave it to their friends. I remember standing in a bread line with my dad, and how the whole city was black; everyone wore black, most the buildings were gray and black, and at night the entire city was black.
