This is ridiculous, June 18th 2008 my left hand went numb, within 3 days my entire left side went numb. I saw a neurologist June 26th, in Paris Ontario ..about an hour from Waterdown where she lives. I was then referred to another neurologist, simply because he was closer to where I lived and I saw him on Sept 30th. By November 30th I had undergone multiple test and was diagnosed with MS.

I should add that I have to give myself a once a week injection, like many MS patients..some require more frequent injection. This is ridiculous, June 18th 2008 my left hand went numb, within 3 days my entire left side went numb. I saw a neurologist June 26th, in Paris Ontario ..about an hour from Waterdown where she lives. I was then referred to another neurologist, simply because he was closer to where I lived and I saw him on Sept 30th. By November 30th I had undergone multiple test and was diagnosed with MS.
I wonder what kind of health care she would have received if she couldn't remortgage her home?

You had a condition which was rapidly failing, by the example you give, her condition was a Rathke Cleft Cyst. It is not bad, and in most caes people notice the headaches, and blurry vision in the first year of affliction. You do not go blind from it, like Holmes says.

I should add that I have to give myself a once a week injection, like many MS patients..some require more frequent injection. The 4 needles cost $1653.00 a month ($413 each), I am lucky my drug plan covers the cost, but if it didn't..my "uncaring" Canadian government will cover it, can the same be said for our neighbours to the south?

I cannot find anything on the Mayo clinic's web site about her. There is reference to articles about her when you use their search function - but all the links bring you to a different page. It appears to me that they have removed her 'patient story' from their web site. Maybe they do not want to be a party to this huge lie about her "life threatening" ilness.

I have lived all my life in Toronto. This woman is completely and utterly misrepresenting the truth. We get excellent health care when we need it, never having to worry if our insurance companies will approve prescribed treatment. The doctor diagnoses and then we get the treatment. End of story.
We DO have a problem when Americans sometimes fake residency status to avail themselves of our health care system.
We want all of our US friends to have as good a health care system as we have!

They have managed to dig up a few panicky whackjobs who went running to the States for treatment when they didn't have to to try to justify their own position. Do some research on mrs. Holmes and you will see she had a Rathke cleft cyst. That was not in fact life threatening, yes she would have to wait for treatment, but I cannot stand behind the parading of this woman for going through with a surgery that would have been covered for free. er vision issues occur often in RCC, but in truth it is almost instantly corrected, and by the looks of it would have been corrected in two to three months.

Ignorance! It was a fluid filled RCC cyst, mainly benign & not life threatening. She didn't LISTEN to her doctor & fled to the Mayo clinic where they treated via a simple surgery, cyst was drained via her nose & sinus cavity. She survived. They published. People don't die from this. The cyst was drained, her symptoms disappeared, including vision problems & headaches & were not life threatening. Now she has $100,000 in UNNECCESARY debt & is looking for a handout. There is no cure for idiocy.

This is a bunch of PROPAGANDA - I know how the Pharmaceutical & Insurance companies work I work in Healthcare and am all too aware of the ''back room'' deals and kickbacks these two agencies orchestrate with doctors. Some unscrupulous doctors will take advantage of it just for the money. This is only ONE woman's experience - lets hear what the MAJORITY say !

Thank you for the dignity. You are human beings. Socialism is capitalism for government employees. They should not be unionized as they are already a part of the power. The nurses union should not have control of the university openings for nursing, as they do. It is time for women to wake up and protect their families, this includes their husbands. Women, stop taking the government handout and start taking your husbands love. He is your protector. Nurses, stop chatting and get to work.
