I have an advanced license and am running iLO 2, but cannot see the startup information like that at 4:50. I dont know why I can't as I have an advanced license but think that I am missing an option somewhere. I can only see winserver login screen from my remote console when the machine gets to it. ANy udeas or suggestions I may be missing?
A customer brought me this server to install Linux on it but it doesn't come with a CD drive and I cannot boot from USB. How the hell can I install de OS on it?
@snedie69er The great thing about iLo is that you can use it from any computer. The only requirement of your computer to use it is a browser that supports Java, and you need to have Java installed on your machine. Java is for the non-static information. To access a servers iLo all you need is the IP address of the iLo device and the correct login credentials.
Yer iLO certainly is usefull. It's very easy to navigate and configure and allowed me to install two of the servers within an hour.
I do have a question for you, which is going to be a long shot.
One of the servers will not boot (PPM failure I think) but I can access the iLO, but cannot login as the server did not come with credentials. Do you know of a way to bypass the login screen so I can get access to the diagnostics section?
@snedie69er If your server has 2 processors it will need two PPM's. If you do remove the ppm the processor associated with it will need to be removed as well, or else you shouldn't get boot at all. One way you could reset the password on the servers iLo is by upgrading the iLo firmware to the latest revision or an older one. Every time I've not hat the iLo credentials I've had to install an OS and use the "lights out configuration utility" within a GUI to reset credentials.

I just got 3 DL380 G4 servers on ebay and they have iLO built in. Now I have used Ilo once previously but didn't go to idepth with it.
Do I need to install software on a management pc (so my pc) to manage the Ilo servers?
Any help is greatly appreciated

Oh another thing, if I remove a PPM do I also need to remove the associated cpu?
I heard stories that the cpu's are very difficult to put back in with hp servers and I don't want to take it out for no reason.

You can get one on eBay. 227251-021 - HP RILO II card. You can also try surplus companies. My G2 came with one, but I have a few spares.
