I guess people don't realize that not everyone who is viewed as beautiful views themselves that way. It was said earlier that because she's pretty it looses it's bite. But from experience people who flock to subcultures, goth in particular, don't typically vote view themselves kindly, hence the obsessive makeup and clothes. So from the artists perspective the teeth may sink very deep. Not everyone thinks the world of themselves

Her version isn't lame, but ultmately fails because she's attractive and this version is sung with from the position of *knowing* the opposite gender is attracted... and sung from that perspective. That takes away the punch. It's why it isn't a hit. No contempt = fails.

Best if the artist is unattractive asking "what have I got... that makes you want to love me?.... Is it my body?" Humor = Success.

It's a completely different style and time, but looking at the ideas for covers, I'd like to hear Cat Stevens cover some of the Beatles and Stones earlier songs.
