  • i fucking have a grey one, green, white and blue. wtf? not joking, i dont have a voltmeter, i dont know which are good

  • @bkgrinch you may try cables with battery^ it will spin at least with phone battery (3volts) iv tried :)

  • be sure to check all cables from usb (yellow, red, white, green) my red>white was 4.8V red>yellow was 4.94V and red>green was 5.15V different companies use different colors for ther cables it all depends if you got your cable from a good company or some hippy making them in his moms basement lol

  • if you have a red, black and yellow, just cut the yellow off.. doesn't do anything..

  • Can you control fan speed?

  • I am using a ps2 fan and it has black and gray wires... HELP!

  • @INDEPENDENTPRODUCTS buy a pc fan from amazon it cheap

  • @BeastlyBoltz Nah its ok now I figured the gray was the red's replacement...

  • This motherfucking shit not work

  • 1) Use proper cutter tools

    2) Use solder

    3) Use shrinktubes for proper insulation and pro finishing

    4) Doing this with just any fan could fry your computer because of the powerconsumption of the fan. (+ overloading your usb causes heat, something you want to remedy with the fan --> FAIL!!)

    5) Not all fans will start at 5V (check web)

    6) Cooling efficiency of this construction is hazy

Get a dedicated laptop cooler which can be had for around $40 or a usb power adapter to avoid risk ($10). My 2ct

  • hello, my pc fan has 3 cables: red, black and yellow. i just ignore the yellow one? cheers !!!

  • help mine doesn't work!!!

  • couldn't you just solder the black and red wires together?

  • dont put more than one fan on each usb port...

it could overload your computer, which means anything from that usb port never working again to completely frying your computer...

  • i have to admit, i was a little skeptical about this whole thing until i tried it.....and it actually worked with no consequences to the pc or the ps2. though it doesn't spin very fast but it does work nonetheless.

  • Ever heard of a WIRE CUTTER?

I preffer that instead of a knife

  • @234jari234 not everyone has the money, or the need to buy them. if a simple tool (knife) can do it, why spend extra on a wire cutter when not needed? if i have the extra un-needed money, i would buy one, but other than that, no reason for me to get it. if i dont have a knife at arm distance, my teeth never failed me, and dont go being a smartass aobut breaking them or something, because they are enough for the thin insulations, that are probably some of thickest possible iwth wire cutter :P

  • you know! i like this this could come in very handy because i have a bunch of fans laying around and my laptop heats up!i'll try it and let you know! thanks alot man! :)

  • i have tried this once i didn't find much use into cutting the ends off the fan because then if it didn't work there would be of no use to the fan. The fan did spin but since windows didn't detect new hardware it shut off instantly its a 12v fan running on around 4.5v usb it will work but slow but like I said my problem is getting it to continue working..

  • i got one tip just cut it a little and then take the isolation of with your fingers that way you don't damage the little wires under there and you don't fail it as oftem

  • @nicktermeer no red to red black to black should work reverse polarities will actually cause a spark sometimes

  • I connected black with red and red with black, luckily it worked =]

  • I fucking love Seether..

  • doesnt work

  • My fan has 3 wires conected not 2 what do i do?

  • One of the cables just information cable, (usually blue) cut it off, use voltmeter to be sure

  • @SuperAUTOcar

connect red and black wire, just leave the jellow one!

  • does it even help cooling your PC? :P

  • It will spin kinda of slow so cooling PC isnt best idea for this :) But as laptop extrafan etc it will do duty just fine

  • u should mention that the fan must be a 5 volt fan, i got me a 12v fan and now it sucks

  • All computer fans 12V This video fan also 12V fan // "5V" computer fans just allrdy connected to 5 volt wire in packet....

  • what? ""5V" computer fans just allrdy connected to 5 volt wire in packet.... " explain

i mean look ur fan is going pretty fast, but mine is going really slow, and when i stop it then it has not enough power to get running so i have to help it (my fan is brand new), when i connect it to a 12v adaptor then it runs normally like it should, and usb voltage is 5 volts so how can ur fan be 12v and running so fast? ..... EXPLAIN

  • Well.. You may bought "ultra quiet" fan or something like that (800RPR -12V so if you connect that fan to 5V its like ~400RPM) -_- my fan should not spin any faster than yours :P [my both USB fan vidios got 12V fan] Maybe you should buy some very cheap fan which spin 2000RPM or something, my fans spin like chopper if i connect em to 12V :P

  • anyway im genning me a 5volt fan 6200 rpm, that fast..., hope its not gonna make a big noise

  • i have a knife just like that, is urs a J. martini?

  • seems to be ;) :)

  • dude fan is so slow with this just hook up to power suply this is so slow

  • i want to hook 2 fans on it but i think i gona screw up my xbox360 usb thing :P could you get more v in the usb?

  • y can get 6volts to usb with this dealextreme . com / details . dx / sku . 2649

  • ok ty for your help :D

  • np :)

  • Thank you!!!

  • yep, it will just spin lower speed

  • actually it wont spin lower. seeing as a normal pc fan is around only 6 to 5 volts to allow more power for other more important pieces. a twelve volt fan will spin fast. As fast as those toy helicopters you see in tv commercials.

  • actually it will.. i dont wanna explain but if i really have to, i will explain y some day -_- Y could also try it in real life

  • thanks i give it a try

  • 2 Points...

1: I accidently let the black and red touch eachother and I got a pop up balloon saying the hub power limit had exceeded...

2: I have a crashed pc, the psu is stuffed, do you think I could use the fan out of that in this project?? to trial it, I did it on a Toshiba Tecra Fan, lol it stops my Dell optiplex GX620 from crashing now (it has a heat issue....)

  • you could have given more info on the wire cutters like maybe wire strippers and what size it is and maybe wire cutters I almost went of with cutting the wires with a heavy duty pair of scissors

  • Hey, I have an old 12V fan that I wan't to use for a diy project. Its smaller than the one you used, and there are 3 small wires coming out of it: black, blue, and red. Do I just ignore the blue wire? And could I power it using something other than a usb cable, like an ac adapter perhaps?

  • Yep, blue one is only information cable.

You can use any prower supply as y wanna (like battery) but make sure its not over 12V or i think that fan wires will melt

  • Awesome! Thanks. How many volts does a USB port put out anyway?

  • 5Volts

  • Then I'm going to use a usb port. I thought their DC output was less than that.

  • they wont melt itll just burn out the fan motor

  • you ignore all but red and black and you should be able to use the ac adapter jujst make sure its 12 volts

  • hey

i make a usb fan but the problems is:

    is slow:S

    Fan 12v

    Black-Black

    Red-Red

    im using in my laptop

  • USB = 5V so its kinda of slow.. connect it to 2 USB ports = 10V BUT ASK someone who knows how to connect 'em correctly (electric man) (you CANT connect 'em straight like: 2Xblack / 2X Red)

  • the usb cable is from sony erickson

soo i mas connect with 2 usb?

    sorry for my english

  • yep. Y'll need 2XUSB cable + some other electric equipments (thing which doesnt let electric go back to MB- don't know it name -_-) so electricity doesn't break your motherboard... Better that ask some electrician, i will make video "HWTO make 10V USB FAN" when i get all stuff etc what i need to make it^)

  • ty alot im waiting:P

  • Youtube sucking as usual cannot comment/answer

  • Its not possible to take 10V from USB

  • short answer cause youtube sucking cannot write long txts

  • its possible with 2 different power supplys

  • eg. USB + battery (i dont guarantee that battery doesnt leak or explode :D) [dunno does it even work IRL]

  • That I can do? The device usb is not recognized

  • IT doesnt matter all usb connecters has an output of 5 volts. All that goes thru the usb is elctricity

  • Cool video bro,but when i do this my pc locks up and crashes.maybe its a voltage thing not sure.

  • it should not crash -_- (iv used this about 1 year now :D) Check fires etc // do your other USB devices work fine?

  • the usb ports on your computer only have 5 volts but the fan has 12 so ur fan can go heaps more faster

  • What's the power consumption?

  • the average power consumption of a fan is about 6 Watts (joules per second) - 0.5 Amperes at 12 Volts

A USB cable is indeed 5V so the fan will run at around 45%

  • will this work on a ps2 slim?

  • yes it will

  • How much voltage is it between the red and black wire? and how many amps can u drain from it? :P

  • If you use USB, voltage will be 5V... I think 12volts is max or cables will melt.... Red wire = Xvolts Black = voltage return path...

amps.. AMPS.. i dunno nuthing about amps XD LAMPS? DD:D.DD

  • hehehe :P then i guess u don't know much about electricity.

well.. just because it's 5V, it doesn't mean you can connect anything to it at can run on 5V.. cuz voltage isn't an amount of power..

  • it will make damage to my Laptop?

im From Greece sorry for my English:$

    but i Thrust this Video

  • hey look at my channel i will show u a better way to do this fan and where to buy all of the parts

  • You can also do this (but not USB) if you just hook up the red and black wires from the fan (Positive and Negative poles) and hook them up to a 9V battery (each wire with it's respective pole otherwise it won't work!

  • my fan is blue and i put LED's on it ,red so my xbox is cool and "cool"

  • if u have a broken xbox 360 open it up and use the fan out of there thats what i did then put some clips on it to connect to the xbox

  • nice work nobzu thx very much it worked fine for me and my laptop is cool 24/7

  • u are a genius thank you!!

no more over heating Xbox 360:)

  • thanx man

    ¸„ø¤º°¨¸„ø¤º°¨¨°º look at ur backgroud

  • 1 question nobzu:

You connected the fan to your tower to cool your laptop.

my prob is that my internal laptop fan crapped out. if i connect it directly to the laptop to cool itself externally, do you suppose it will work?

  • it will work if there is enough of volts :P if there is only ~2volts i think that 120mm fan wont even start to spin -_-'

  • usb ports output 5v , 120mm usually work 5-12v adjustable voltage (for noise levels )....guess it should work with 5v, not at max rpm but still should spin a decent airflow.... u plugged ur fan in a 5v usb nobzu, how well did it spin?

  • nocturnall connects hes fan to OLD fan connector INSIDE of hes laptop.. not to usb port... or this is how i understand that when i quick read it BUT anyway it works if connect usb hvnt much time to raed hes question :P AND i readed it again so if its not gaming comp it sould make it job just fine.

  • Worked like a charm! :) connected a 60mm fan to the laptop itself via usb, and placed it under it. the spin is decent, and the pc is perfectly cool.

    thanks nobzu, keep it up!

  • Is that a 120mm fan and I have a blue and red wire on the fan

  • its 120mm // red usually power

  • Cool it works 10x mate

  • how about if i discovered that i have used the wrong colour wire to link it??

can i remove the tape and change it?

    will it still work?????????

  • yes.. But make sure that y dont mess up with power and ground wires... == MB / PSU etc may damaged

  • i would suggest test it on you computer b4 on xbox or w/e but besides that its perfect DO NOT PUT 2 FANS ON 1 USB IT WILL SUPERHEAT THE WIRES

  • o thx for the pro info

  • whoa nice idea putting in the table, under the laptop ^^

    nice job

  • u said" cause" instead of b-cause lol jk

  • i had also the yellow one but you can cut it and leave it alone... connect black-black red-red and leave the yellow :)

  • my fan have black , yellow and red what i need to do ? help ? cut yellow ?

  • Black is usually ground and red is usually power // cut all other cables // if wanna be sure use volt meter

  • haha it relly works but its kinda slow. Is there any way or stuff i have to get to make it spin faster?

  • Plug it in double usb == 10V.. now it spinning only 5V.. .BUT im not electric man so ask someone who knows right things to it... (Y will need some components which block that electric doesnt go back to motherboard when using double usb... if y make it double usb with this tactic ur motherboard may get some serious damage :D)

  • thx but i better not try cause its a new pc xD

  • Crap horrible, but works...

  • Do you need a USB cable with the end B?

  • Thanks Bro! BTW wuts da song?

  • Audio information for this video

  • ow! thnx

  • my fan uses a 4pin, is that ok?

  • ye (blaablaa have write something cuz ye was too short :D)

  • I have usb cable with only two wires. White and red. Does white connect with black?

  • which kinda of cable is it? there has to be 4 cables O_o (power and information cables) i recommend that dont use that cable :D

  • I figured it out. I needed a thicker cable. IDK why the big one had four wires though

  • my fans got a red yellow and black cable, what happens to the yellow >?

  • i think that redyellow is power and black is ground :P (black is usually ground)

  • I cut my usb and it was the same as yours except I had white and red cables and that's it. What do I do?

  • mun usb kaaplissa on 4 piuhaa, punanen, sininen, vihree, oranssi. mitkä leikkaan?

  • hmm... kannattas melkeimpä kattoa jännitemittarilla (koska muuten alkaa 95% varmasti tulemaan savua koneestas), mutta veikkaan että punanen on 5v ja oranssi on tod. näk. "musta" eli maa

  • onks toi tarpeeks nopee toi fan?

  • tarpeeks nopee? : D

    USB = 5volttia = pyörii hmm.. 700 - 900RPM ehkä (kai) jotain sinne päi :P

  • lol ooks upottanu pöytää ton?

  • kylz :P

  • great video nice idea.
