  • You need a VERY long tether for towing, rule of thumb for ANYTHING being towed on water is 10 x length of vessel being towed or 10x length of vessel doing tow.

    30' doesn't cut it. Helicopter pilot seems to have been in a great hurry, too accustomed to normal air-travel velocities and not the limits of hull-speed on a displacement vessel. Such a short tether, if he hadn't crashed, he'd have lifted the boat out of the water and dumped the people.
