The HC658 comes standard with an 8.5HP 32,000 RPM spindle. There is a 20HP 30,000RPM spindle option. All new HC658s come with Thermal Comp standard on the spindle. Yes this is a HIGH-SPEED VMC mostly designed for Hard Milling and griphite electrode cutting.

Power? What a joke. I operated and programmed these machines. They are a true high speed machine, but only capable of steel milling up to a 3/8" cutter. The biggest complaint I had with the HC658 was the thermal growth in the spindle. It is not unusual to see a .003" growth in the z axis. It was excellent with trodes if you keep most of your cutters at a constant rpm.
