love the photograph of Mary and Flo went the temps, this may be the night they joined the guys up on stage as I believe it was written in Mary's book that they did that. great to see confirmation. I hope no make that pray that mary will develop that SUPREME BOOK that we all need to see and quick. their IMAGES are as important as their sound.
Read a book & learn selby16, Diana Ross & The Supremes had 5 consecutive Number 1 Hits Prior to Diana "Going Out" with the Boss, She was well established & Public Demand was @ it's Peak, Mary Wilson has had 47 Years to Prove just how "Good" she is, The results speak for themselves
YOU COULD HAVE HAD SAM SPUD SINGING LEAD VOCALS ALL THE MOTOWN SONGS CAME FROM THE GREAT FUNK BROTHERS AND NO DISRESPECT TO D ROSS SHE WAS GOING OUT WITH THE BOSS AND THATS WHY SHE GOT WHERE SHE WAS, AS THE OTHER TWO WERE EQUALLY AS GOOD BUT NEVER GOT THE SPOTLIGHT STILL ITS A DECENT TRACK
Diana Ross has a unique instrument in her voice. I have always been a huge fan, These acapella proved that Berry Gordy knew exactly what he was doing when he made her lead.
Diana is no joke in the vocal department. Her phrasing alone is breathtaking. In many songs, she does not sing every verse with the same phrasing. She sounds great here. Very vibrant!
WHo sings like this now? Yes this woman can hold her own. i want some one to get on american idol like this..no band no back up and sing strong like this. this simply proves that Yes..she can hold her own. no music..thats what berry heard. and he made the right choice..if you just heard the back up with no lead and the music..the song would NOT have made no.1 . the song only sound empty because your used to the back up. had u not heard it u would have said..thats a strong singer.and she was.
This is a great lead vocal by Diana Ross, but it sounds empty without the driving backup vocals and harmonies of Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson. One of the Supremes' best records -- especially with the Funk Brothers backing up Diana, Mary and Florence.
@suedemiddleton Mary & Flo's part complement the song; however, this version is SUPER. I love it for one can really hear all of the lyrics & come to really appreciate the unique, pure, & beautiful sound of Diana's soul. This is the only version of this song that I have heard. Diversity is good; you need not justify posting it. I thank you for it. Those who can't enjoy this, it's because anything that focuses more/only on Diana is a reason to downplay it. They can listen to the other vs.bashing.

@PhilLatio99 sorry...i do NOT agree!!Diane sounds confident strong and completely in control (and it's ALSO a 'one take vocal'!!)!!Diane had that nasal tone/quality that could cut through every and any orchestration, and you can clearly hear every lyric she is singing as well!!Yup...there will only EVR be one Diane...and she was/is TRULY 'supreme'!!
@TheMrMarilyn No one is disputing that it's a great lead vocal by Diana, which is what I stated in my comment that you are responding to. That being said, I still stand by comment that it sounds empty without the iconic call-and-response backup vocals of Mary and Florence.that not only complement the lead vocal but serve as a kinetic force. Mary, Florence and Diana were truly Supreme.
I think its a great video, keep up the good work!!!!

I'd hate to see Taylor Swift go up against Diana in her day.

Incredible. Diana's voice sounds like an instrument..somewhat like a saxophone. It's unique.
