  • I still have this on 45 as well. Awesome song that I've always loved. Listened to it last week as a matter of fact!

  • I love this, I love It!! I love you Bono, I love U2!

  • i still have this on 45! (bloody hell i feel like a fossil)

  • sweet

  • I like the hair of bono!

  • classic, epic, amazing, outstanding. U2

  • My fav U2 song. The 45 is indeed rare. I ordered it from London in 82 and have never seen another copy. The flip side is the studio version of 'trash, trampoline and the party girl'.

  • You can tell me whatever you want, but U2 early days was great

  • I visited that prison when I visited Dublin (as part of a U2 fanclub meetup, no less) and was so sad that no one's allowed on the upper levels of that wing. No fan reenactments of the video, tragic lol

  • ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

    LA MEJOR BANDA DEL MUNDOO!!!!!!!

  • i Know what should we do with the 100,000,oooo Euro`s we stole from the Irish econmy, I know give 15,000,000 to charity tell the world how great we are still leaves us an extra 85,000,000

  • I LOVE this song - one of my favorite U2 songs. The rarity factor kills me. I was pissed they didn't release on their B'sides CD. About 20 years ago I made a trip into a boutique vinyl shop in the West Village in NYC and found the 45. At least I got a copy. Maybe one of these days I'll have ripped to my computer. Thanks for the upload HyLeRo!

  • @pworam68 If you buy the October Deluxe Edition CD you can get A Celebration along with a multitude of others

  • this is a hard track to get on CD - one place is on Now That's What I Call Music 1982 - Millennium Series (Virgin/EMI/ Universal NOWMIL 1982), I believe it may also be available as an extra track on the 2 cd reissue of "War".

One of the first U2 singles I bought - I know it came out in the UK on Island, in Eire on CBS, and Japan - also on Island.

If a US copy exists it's likely to be on the Atco label - but I've never seen one...

  • i have this 45! bought it in 1985.....wish they played this song live today...what a great rock song

  • i loooooooooooooooooooooooove this track .......

  • kilmainham jail! i visited them 2 days ago, i went to dublin for holidays :) amazing city

  • o som inesquecivel dos u2 muito obrigado

  • it always reminds me the good old times... this band is the best i've ever seen!

  • Bono is a raving right wing loopy hypocrit avoiding paying his tax`s does he think he can take it all with him when he dies. He talks about eradicating poverty, helping the poor etc what an evil IRISH ARSE HOLE. wayne roony and many buisness men many pop stars should hold there heads in shame

  • @evilofisalm Nutter.

  • @KellyGreen5555 How`s the truth, make you a nutter, your the idiot falling for all there shite

  • @evilofisalm I A gree

  • @ne007ne truth hurts all these retarted morons

  • @evilofisalm "retarted" - are they ex tarts that had a makeover? ;)

  • @UTubeAreTwats thats what happens when the T is to near the D

  • 若いね

  • I have one of those four packs, the one with A Celebration. I looked for it for YEARS before a friend of mine got both four packs for me . . . but all I wanted was this song. I still have it, perfect record, not a scratch on it because I'm scared to listen to it!! It is a second pressing, evidently OccidentalAlice, but it's still worth the world to me. :)

  • if the yellow vinyl is on the cbs label it could be part of two four packs released in the early 80's of their first 8 singles all on cbs, only the first 4 were yellow vinyl. in mint condition both 4 pack are worth a substantial amount, a few hundred anyway

  • Okay, I bought this as a Japanese import 45" back in the early 80s...any idea what it might be worth? Around the same time, I bought 45" of Another Day, 11 O'Clock Tick Tock, A Day Without Me, and Treasure (Pete the Chop). If you have any info on this stuff (which I've been holding on to for pretty much forever!!) please share, if you will. :)

  • I believe it appears now in the October Deluxe edition now.

  • buy it on on itunes

  • Got this 45 in late eighties, time to break out the turntable and play this one and the others.

  • Someone re-mix this video with better sound. This is too good to let slip away...

  • I come from where they all grew up (a friend of Davy Evans) and have one of the very few yellow pressings of this one; if anyone else has one thentreasure it

  • @maghaberryman I have a yellow pressing of U2-3 7 inch. I treasure that too.

  • @Upeter2 I have the same...and if you look at the center thing, you can see their signatures. It's pretty nifty!

  • @OccidentalAlice Aye it is, In the record sleeve i have the yellow pressing and the original 7 inch pressing. Quite unique, maybe? Would never part from it in a million years!!!!!!

  • This is just a great video. Wow.

  • I HAVE THIS 45!! My brother won it from a friend duing a bet!! i have it framed and everything!! AWESOME SONG!! first time i saw the video was on a music channell here in jersey called U68! back when we could watch Uhf!!

  • i have this 45 ha ha, mint, it's on cbs rec's

  • lindoooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I remember seeing it on the Tube back in the early 80s Thanks I still love this song :))

  • jailhouse rock!

  • this song is on the October 2CD Deluxe Album on the 2nd CD !!

  • Even if BONO HIMSELF wouldn't admit to it NOW, thisa is a decidely CHRISTIAN song! What's best about it though...is that it actually seems to actually grasp the redeeming nature of absolution....but WITHOUT insulting one's intellegence by forcing the meaning down your throat....and WITHOUT any judgemental BULLSHIT dogma! It's ALL about NEW testament, baby!@!!! U2....THE ONLY "Christian" rock n' roll band that was EVER worth a DAMN!!!

  • @Anglovox

    Amen. :)

  • THOSE PANTS ARE AWSUM<3 18 people walks without pants on the streets.....

  • Thanks New Football watching Friend - sorry I forgot Your Name .

  • 18 people weren't invited to celebrate.

  • "I believe in the 3rd world war and I believe in the the atomic bomb..." is why this song has been effectively buried in cement by them and rightly so, whatever the fuck his naive teenage mind was thinking when writing those anti-human lyrics only he knows.

  • @KenfromDublin I don't think thats the full story behind the lyrics, but even if it was, it kinda makes sense...

  • @KenfromDublin I took it as him speaking ironically, not that he actually believed in those things...to me, the song is about those who would rather turn a blind eye to those things, not that he does, or did. One great thing about U2 though...they've always left their songs open to interpretation.

  • bono in red jeans hahaha

  • Bono wrote this song when he got married with allison, to cellebrate! It is a great song!

  • I had this on 7" in a picture sleeve and I gave the bloody thing away when I left the UK. I bet it's worth a fortune now :-(

Not up to similar singles around that era IMO, but still great to hear again

  • Wonderful, amazing!

    Happy new year!

  • Super

  • Great song!! But I don't believe in the 3rd world war!!!

  • Fantastic video and song!

    Olga/

  • The U2 boys were pretty hot back in the day ;)

  • I have a bootleg somewhere of them doing this live in about 81 at Brixton Academy. I'd never heard it before and I stuck it on and it completely blew me away. Totally raw, totally naive, totally brilliant. I can see why they thought this was a flawed version of the song... but how can they let them blind that to what an amazing song it is?

Get the bridge-- "we don't have the time"... and everything is suspended for a moment of time. Pure back-beat rock and roll. Get it back in the set bhoys!

  • a underrated song

  • I wish the boys would play this again .. I know they disregarded it but, its just grand! :)

  • 18 people missed the like button...

  • good old kilmainham jail

  • they could and should of put this on the best of the 80s cd .

  • This is one of U2's best songs-thanks for the posting!

  • I am lucky enough to have this on 7"...picked up at a record fair many years ago. It is the most treasured of my collection only just succeeding the War picture disc!!! Great tune.

  • Awesome as always U2!

  • punks not dead, mieli w sobie magie

  • punks not dead

  • How come ive never heard this one?! :D THIS IS SO COOL

  • 18 people have no celebrations

  • Those red pants!

    I love this song.

  • Adam just gets hotter as the time goes by! Don't you agree?

  • baby U2. :D

  • best thing ever.

  • U2: 1979-1983 > U2: 1984-now

  • Iupiiii....just 24 days to see U2 live inside the Red Zone....I cant waaaaaaaaaaiiittt!!!

  • U2-BRILLIANT BAND WITH SOME TRUELY GREAT SONGWRITING ,BUT BONO PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE STOP FUCKING PREACHING TO US AND TELLING US TO GIVE TO THE NEEDY.WHY DON'T YOU AND GELDOF EMPTY YOUR BANK ACCOUNTS AND SEND IT ALL TO AFRICA.

  • this song and video is loosely based on bonos period of incarseration for having sex with camels and wild horses.

  • I remember this coming out at the time and totally forgot about till about 6 months ago

  • Oh man, one of my favorite U2 songs! Hell, one of my favorite songs EVER!!!!!

  • gotta admit, if I would have heard this first, I wouldn't have been such a fan. Fortunately, I heard the Boy album first...and it blew me away!

  • Wow, I didn't know this one! Only found it now as it's b-side Part Girl is just about my favorite song ever.

  • Right when The Edge first started to lose his hair!

  • Que restart o quê, Bono foi percursor das calças coloridas!

  • Tell me, wasnt this prison/gaol used in the movie "In the name of the father"?

An irish band filming a video in a prison compound back in the early 80s was courting controversy...

  • @Andre2010 yes I think this was from In The Name of the Father- groundbreaking film.

  • @Andre2010 Yes, it's Kilmainham Gaol in Dublin.

  • @coleygirl89 yes! I lived nearby and did the tour one day and was thinking "yes. this is it they were here..awesome!" besides the history of who else was put into this jail in 1916---

  • The B side to this was Trash, Trampoline, and the Party Girl

  • this song is about the 1st number ONE of WAR!

esta canción está dedicada al número 1 conseguido con WAR!!!!

  • For those of you questioning the lyric 'I believe in the third world war I believe in the atomic bomb' Bono was stating the issues that repressed people, but the whole sentiment of this song was to say ' No..... we should celebrate what is good and true' hence the lyric 'I believe in the powers that be but they won't overpower me'

I agree this song is one of their best and remember it not making the charts......U2 were just tops in those days......still are.....well mostly!!!

  • i love them

  • @severinsmith42 you should sell it

  • really? i have a 45 of this.

  • Great song, really.

Fucking love the U2 from this era.

  • I got into an argument with my friend about U2's being a great Post-Punk/New Wave band. But she doesn't think they belong to that category. "They're just Rock" she says. I'm like, yeah, maybe now they're mainstream Rock because they're just popular enough to fill stadiums. But their roots like in Post-Punk/New Wave, dammit! The Clash was they reason they got together in the 1st place.

  • great song

  • u2 for life

  • Thank you!!!!

  • I have been in the place they record this video,in march. It is called Kilmainham Gaol, and it's a great place to visit. lots of ireland story in there!

When i was there i was allways remembering this video :D

  • U2 creates music that makes sense. Their music takes you through the spectrum of emotions. They sound like NO other band, and no other band sounds like them. Thank God for U2...a band that gives a voice to us all!!!!

  • this song is good !!

  • u2 ina eighties mix..kind of funny!!!

  • Ahhh, Mr The Edge, you never seize to influence generations of young guitarists

  • @ToulacAxeHand .... it's cease not seize

  • It's just my opinion. There's no need for name calling just because you don't agree. I don't particularly like anything past Achtung Baby.

Do you make a habit of calling people names when they don't agree with you? It's immature.

No need to reply because I won't read it.

    Thanks.

  • you're right sorry about that, it just because i love u2, but you have the right you give your opinion really sorry :(

  • edge forgot how play it??

    Hmm Sheet music??

    8)

  • Its a celebration bitches!

  • I LOVE this song! I like Edge's guitar riff!

  • It was still being being played as late as 1985, during the unforgettable fire album but the so called official explanation is that the edge forgot how to play it. I have to say its one of my favourite songs of the era. I was lucky enough to have bought the 7" record...its B side fared a lot better - and party girl became a live favourite for many years.

  • I have it in "War Tour in Edinburgh" February 28th 1983

  • Visited the jail were this was filmed the other day was amazing!!! :)

  • A beautiful song....

  • Lmao, 0:20 looks like Brian Molko

This is one of my favorite oldies tracks of U2

  • This song rocks. May I ask why this song isn't played by U2 anymore (or rarely)? Is it seen as being "dated" or were the lyrics too embarrassing? If this question was answered previously, my apologies, but I can't be bothered to sift through 270+ comments for this vid. Thanks for any kind reply.

  • I can't answer because I don't understand either :-( I LOVE this song. The lyrics seem anything BUT embarrasing to me, they feel so powerful! I'm not mad at U2 for not using this song more, but I know what you mean.

  • How come they couldn't at least put the song on the "Best Of 1980-1990" album?!

  • I have a couple of Live U2 tapes from the early 80's and this song was on it. I had no idea it was considered their rarest song.

  • as soon as joshua tree happened they should have changed their name

  • Really, Joshua tree is one of my favorite u2 albums. For me, it's anything after Rattle and Hum, they should've changed their name.

  • YES there early stuff was better, everything upto early 90's,but there is a band from south england thats better started in 1977and-still going, not as strong but still going.

  • what band

  • yeah, my curiosity is aroused. what band?

  • underrated song.

    love this. :)

    they should release this.

  • This is when U2 was U2...everything went downhill after Joshua...

  • You can't be serious?

Achtung Baby and All That You Can't Leave Behind were two of the best U2 albums after Joshua

  • Even Achtung Baby? PrettyLittleHead get your head out of your arse.

  • you can go to this prison its in kilmaiham in dublin its called kilmainham gaol

  • my phone rings like this!

    I Love their early songs!

  • Great song. I love U2 ♥

  • Great vid

    Great track

    5*******

    Terry

  • i would definetly like to visit this prison myself

such an under appreciated song, punky and danceable with serious lyrics. pity it was never rereleased

band looks so cute and young :)

  • A fan for 25 years but never saw this video. Brilliant!

  • I beLIEve you can dance with me.......

    dance with me Shake...shake...

& you can go there tooooooooooooooooooo

  • I remember seeing this on MTV way, way back when. Thank you for posting this!

  • U2 wrote "Miami"

  • U2 e The Cure, best groups of all time

  • This video is absolute amazing!

  • I have been in this prison today. It was very impressive - if that's a proper term. The guide took us on a 90 minute tour through the building and explained lots about the history of the building, the social and the political history that this building is tied to. I can recommend a visiit to Kilmainham Gaol to anyone who hasn't been there for multiple reasons.

  • I remember hearing this song for the first time around 87 when I was 16. I was blown away by it and remember trying to track it down. Thanks for posting - it still sounds great!

  • God I have this on single, my favourite U2 song

  • Ah yes, the little ditty that introduced me to U2. Gotta love it, even if they consider it crap, I consider it gold.

  • They should soup it up re record it and re release it a great live track i'd say

  • And I to think I actually had the 7" single of this, but lost it sometime a long time ago. Grrrrr.

Back in the days when U2 were actually good, before they sold themselves out with The Joshua Tree and Bono disappeared up his own arse (a couple of songs from Achtung Baby excepted)

saw U2 live in 1984, the War Tour. Great concert. Saw them again for the Lovetown Concert - one of the worst I have ever been to. The beginning of the end.

  • can someone explain to me why every u2 song i click and listen to is awesome?

  • @geostar42 I'm not sure but I think it has something to do with the fact that U2 is an awesome band...

    XD U2, favourite band 4ever!

  • @geostar42 Because U2 is the greatest band in the world! :)

  • @geostar42 I was just thinking the same thing. I was telling a friend that I have all of U2's major albums and there are still so many songs from them that I have never heard in my life and when I put em on they're ALL awesome.

  • @geostar42

I still have my 7" yellow vynyl copy of this with "party girl" on the other side, just wondered if it is worth anything to anybody

  • @maghaberryman It's worth a LOT to any hard core U2 fan

    don't loose it ;)

  • @geostar42 cos bono is there -> bono is irish -> irish are awesome

    :)

  • @geostar42 I have to agree with you, and waiting for the same explanation.

    Musical greatings...

    Peace...

  • I love larry at :56 , looking Adorable!

  • Man, this is classic U2. It needs more recognition.

  • loooool, Bono's outfit...sweet :D the boots with this red pants^^

...and I thought the look of Jon Bon Jovi in the "She don't know me" clip was the baddest ever, I'm wrong xDD

  • He's been my IDEAL MAN since I was SIXTEEN :) ! LOL

  • gosh now this makes me worship U2 even more!!!!!

  • Yeah..U2 is the ultimate band...to me the greatest in history...no band comes even close to them...I say this after 20+ years of listening to their stuff..its timeless...I never get tired of hearing it over and over...I always find a new note here and there or lyric that I did not pay attention to...This is not Rock...this is art..just like Mozart or Picasso..U2 is the best rock band in history.

  • @sfumato1002 what about 'This is rock AND art??

  • @sfumato1002 listen to some LED ZEPPELIN also...start with whole lotta love

  • @simy811 , I like led Zeppelin a lot....I guess it just comes to personal taste when it comes to talented musicians...my favorite bands are U2, Simple Minds, then comes acdc, iron maiden, led, big country....

early 90's, 80's, 70's to 50's great music....these days music has turned into a show of who is cuter and sexier...and music has been lost as a form of art...its incredible how there is no talented musicians anymore, 1950-1990 was the golden age of music.

  • @sfumato1002 - Beatles are way better.
