These boys caught us in a previous stage of the rally and were pushing hard to catch us again (red GTHO, third car that goes past)and came unstuck! Just goes to show you can't get too cocky eh?!

Hopefully these days everyone knows that motorsport is not 100% safe for compeditors or spectators.. The person filming was not proceeding anywhere at the time, its pretty clear they were on the outside of a bend filming. Which is a failing of the marshals, and plain common sense. I'm very glad nobody was hurt, as these events are special, and it will only take one incident to ruin it for everyone.

I am the person in video who is at drivers door.

I was asking driver if he is ok then asked him where kill switch for car is. Then I got extinguisher out from behind driver in case of fire.

We were ushered to this area and were proceeding up to safer ground when incident occured. Another 3 cars proceeded past the incident and the fourth car to come past also lost control in same loose gravel on corner and went into embankment.

And for the record, the Sunshine Coast Daily claims we accessed the area through bush nearby. Actually, the race volunteer/warden let us through past taped road and we walked up to power station via road. And I'm not stupid.

...yes understood, barrier bad idea, sweeping the road of gravel, smarter. Just that the local media are using it as a 'blame game' issue and would be a disappointment if people were to kick off over it....

As for the staging of the event - perhaps a larger size barrier infront of the drive up towards the Power Station so the driver can clearly see which way to go?

The driver knew where to go - the navigator (as is his job, calling from pace notes) called the corner - grade (basically easy, medium, hard) and direction (l or r) - unfortunately the gravel on the outside of the entry had other ideas. A barrier such as you suggest may have killed them in the car - one among them a good friend. The number one rule of spectating - the outside apex is a bad place to stand. That's where the run out will be if it all goes pear shaped......

Remembering yesterday as i do, I and my neighbours agree we were lucky AND out of choice, standing in film's location - to not blame anyone, Power Station up road of left hand side of shot could of been worse outcome!! We are beyond gratefulness that no one was hurt...

A lucky escape for people (stupidly) standing on the OUTSIDE APEX of a corner in a timed speed event. If you read the local news article (SunCoast Daily), it sounds as though they shouldn't have even been standing there - it was a closed off area and the outside apex is generally not a marshalled spectator area anyway. And for sure motorsport will cop the rap for this instead.....
