  • I don't like to brag and I usually only bring this up during job interviews, but back in the 80s I had the record score posted on Moon Patrol at my local arcade. At the very beginning of the game, I'd fire my gun in bursts of three in time to the music. That was the last time I was cool.

  • best game ever

  • who is being fought in this game? aliens?

  • @cpepe223 - No, the flying saucers are filled with downtrodden Portuguese immigrants who have come to the moon in hopes of a better YES IT'S FRIGGIN' ALIENS!

  • @stevein3d I guess Irem thinks and or wants people to believe that the moon landing was real and that there are aliens on the moon

  • When I was 6-7 years old this was my favorite game at Showbiz Pizza Place. Both my parents worked there so I got lots of game time. I was tall for my age and don't remember having any trouble reaching the controls. I remember watching an adult play the game and when he got to the landmines he slowed down his buggy all the way. I told him he needed to speed up, but he didn't listen and went BOOM! This 6 year old knew what he was talking about. I could finish the land mine stage without dying.

  • ooh i remember playing this in the arcades :D i suck at it though......i didn't even know there were those flashing red mines in the later levels lol.

i do remember the wheels and how awesome it goes with the rough uneven moonscape. most other games at the time would have slide your main character along in a straight line.

  • This game is my childhood. <3

  • one of my favorite Games

  • uh...Lovley to watch....how to get that the best version of moon patrol??? I tried to play online several version but they even not near with quality of arcade ...teriblle graphic and boring .Guys help..thank you...

  • Today they have modern warfare 3 we had moon patrol - teens today have reality shows we had the A team!!! today you have lady gaga we had Michael Jackson can you see the diffrents! thank GOD i was around in the 80s 90s! a time we will never see again.

  • @Soul7Patrol - thank GOD the 80s and 90s are a time we will never see again :) Modern Warfare 3 has much more versatility and "life" in it than moon patrol (I still prefer Moon Patrol), the A Team was an embarassment and Michael Jackson is just as bad as Lady Gaga! I sees no difference

  • @Chickan117 I don't know, i played games from 1980 till 2005 and i don't find anything now in gaming that is challenging or original with FPS games just being a copy of the last FPS game with different graphics. There are "some" offbeat games still being made that are ok but after my days of the Atari 2600, Colecovision, C64, Amiga & PC and i have either grown out of it or it's just become uninspiring. I still fire up older games though from time to time mostly on the Amiga but that's about it

  • @Chickan117 This is just a question and i don't mean it as offensive in any way at all, but don't you ever feel guilty playing games at all? I mean that in a way that you know deep down it's a waste of time and is rather immature when you hit your mid 30's and you are still doing it as in how i felt when i hit 32 and stopped and now i am 37. Just curious as to your thoughts on this? Maybe i am being too harsh on myself when it comes to having fun? ;)

  • @blade004 - I don't feel guilty at all. I don't really play FPS tho, I stick to games with a more interesting story like Bioshock, The Witcher, Portal, etc. It's no different to watching a movie or reading a book except it's now interactive :) I really enjoy playing gams still and I'll never view something I enjoy as a waste of time. I think you're being too harsh on yourself :) Or is someone else making you feel that it's immature to play perhaps? Curse of our generation sadly.

  • @blade004 I know people in their 40's (i'm getting close lol) who get together with big house party's, music, beer, bbq, play nintendo wii, play pool life is short HAVE FUN :-)

  • the explosions sounds are haunting. i loved the music and sounds on this game.

  • Awsome!!!!

Anybody knows if this game is online somewhere

  • i have one of these and it just broke, i have no clue whats wrong. when i turn it on im not hearing the click like i use to. message me if you can help, thanks.

  • Best bass line ever.

  • Dude drop another 20 cents in and go again.

  • thank you!

  • The first son I played in my bass guitar was this one! LOL

  • Loved this game - jumping craters, blasting boulders and avoiding mines. Reminds me of 1982.

  • PARALLAX SCROLLING!!!

  • Moon Buggy's got some serious hydraulics.

  • Wow! what a blast from the past! as soon as it startd I rem it like the backa my hand! lol we used 2 sing this song when I would go 4wheelin in my trick(hum it whatever)...back when game's were cheap! lol thanx 4 posting! was just dodgeing snowpiles in my F150 n thinkin about this n the olddays in Buffalo(now in Ohio)

  • The music is awesome, also the rest of the game looks fun.

  • awesome game for it's time... music too.

  • LOL, used to have soo much fun playin this game on the ol' TRS-80 back in the day!

  • One of the best Atari games eva!

  • i like the sound effects.

  • They are playing Led Zeppelin!

  • I LOVE IS GAME !!!

  • Always felt cool playing this back in the day cause of the music!

  • it's crazy to see how well this game's predictions hold up, now that it's normal to drive around on the moon

  • Best music ever.

  • man !! the graphics and the gameplay was so monotonous and junky, still what great memories it brings to all of us who grew up in the 80's... Gathering coins from all over the house, to go to the arcade games and play moon patrol, phoenix... If you think of it, all these games were not lasting more than 30 minutes with good gameplay, but for us they were huge and it was the ultimate joy !!

thanks man, you brought back memories from a beautiful decade !!

  • realy sweet memories....

  • That's some good looking parralax scrolling for a game from 1982!

  • "The moon landing was a success. We have jumped 45004 craters and shot 9455 objects..and we only lost our 3 wheels 2 times. Mission Accomplished."

  • If I had of instead invested all of the quarters I actually dumped into this game back in the day, I'd be a millionaire by now! Thanks for posting this and bringing back some cool memories!

  • nice video dude, I love this game

  • I'd shoot more of the rocks instead of jumping them. Man this is cool

  • this game and ms pacman were how i spent my after noon after school from 1981 to 1992 when i graduated

  • I'd like to hear a heavy bass/ six string guitar rock version of this music. Now wouldn't that be badass??

  • I never played the arcade but the 2600 version sure is a quality port:)

  • These simple arcade games were better than the ones they have now IMO.

  • Hypnotic background music!

  • Grand Theft Auto: Green Moon City

  • brought back my memmories. nice video ,from where this game can b downloaded free bro?

  • this is about eight hundred times better than everything out today

  • I fuckin hated this game HATED IT Fuck you moon buggie! Goddamn green city!!

Worse than the aliens in Defender....fuck that game too

  • @mhks68 lmfao

  • I used to LOVE this game and the background music.

  • where can i find this game???,by internet...........free download,if possible.........thanks!!!

  • thanks, that brought back some of my memories. I loved that game. It was one of the first things where I actually improved my performance over time.

  • I was really good at this game.

  • Spent hours on this as a kid, memorizing every bump and ship.

  • This was my very first game on my very first computer.

Thanks for the upload and the memories!

  • @DwarfInBlues holy shit man, this is the first game i ever played man!!!!

  • I used to wear this game out on the old Atari 2600 console.

  • I was really good at this game. I might have dropped ten bucks on this thing when it was all said and gone.

  • Why do aliens always have to ruin a nice drive? Why?

  • @shaunanakin apparently, the story is that the vehicle you drive is a "space police cruiser"

  • The moon buggy has got some serious suspension..lol

  • Thanks for bringing the memory back! This was one of my favorites along with Centipede and Galaga...wow, I really miss the 80's sometimes!

  • i was playing this on the weekend, my mate brought a full arcade console....EPIC

  • that gameis too kick ass

  • Heh, Ioved this game as a kid. It would still be maybe more fun now. But why is there a green landscape on the moon? I think all the quarters I put into the machine helped to fund the "Make the Moon Green" project. Bad ass game with some bad ass porn music!

  • i remember playing a clone of this on cartoon network website almost 10 years ago

  • Fuck mass effect this is the shit !!!

  • @Kaidoscope Yes. . .fuck it.

  • @Kaidoscope this is the mako

  • noooo...this brings back memories..music kick ass!

  • Hell yeah I LOVED this game!!!

  • I never did beat this game.

  • i played this to death back in the Time Tunnel and Aladdin's Castle back in the 80s..and grab a bite from the Orange Julius..that was ages ago...around 1981-82-83..

  • I'd love for a rock band to redo the main track, along with a badass drumbeat!

  • I remember I had the high score of 860,000 on this game in 1982 when I was 14 at Fun Fair Game Center. Wow this brings back memories...great video!

  • This is some serious graphics and music for the early 80s.

It's funny... This was before shooting games had settled into well-defined categories, and there were some interesting dead ends in the family tree. You'd think Moon Patrol could have spawned its own subgenre, and yet I can't think of a single game like it.

  • Loved that goofy purple moon car with the three wheels and jumping action.

  • This was one of Irem's earliest known games.

  • Hah, I remember playing this back at the Tastee-Freeze in Detroit. Everytime I see this game it makes me think of ice cream! Love the background music it plays; kinda sticks in your head for awhile!

  • Moon Patrol was the first game to ever have Parallax scrolling I believe =)

  • WHOA awesome parallax scrolling for 1982 !!

  • Irem sure knows how to make great backgrounds. this is amazing for its time. their game Metal Storm for the nes is one of the few nes games i remember ever having 2 scrolling backrounds.

  • Played this I guess in 82 or early 83, at this fire station my dad took me to. My dad was a lifelong firefighter, and this was how I wiled away the hours while he shot the shit with his comrades. Never got past the flashing minefield, I think.

  • I used to play this at Hungry Herman's in college park back in 1982 after eating a giant egg salad sandwich. Ahhh the good ole days!

  • played this at blackpool pleasure beach back in 82..the good old dayz.love that tune it rocks!

  • In college at Iowa State in Ames... a couple of beers in me and Moon Patrol at the ready... Aces!

  • great game

  • whoa i can't believe this used to be my favorite game...

  • It was only 10p to play or credit clockers.. I never forget the tune, only the bass is missing

  • I was a god at this game when I was 8 years old. At the time, it was an expensive game to play (lol) at 50 cents, but I could get through to point Z on only the two quaters. I remember setting records at point J where I discovered you can doble jump some of the mines. Good times!

  • mesmerizing. missin my days as a kid playing these old games

  • Remember playing at the mall late 1982........

  • thhese games is of emulator mame 32
