  • I can't find the TAB on your website please help me Justin ;)

  • Comment removed

  • Very very good, without your tutorials, I probably wouldn't be able to pick things up so easily.

  • A darwin sticker? And I thought it wasn't possible to love you more.

  • "beautiful beautiful chune"

  • Really struggling with the strumming pattern. Any tips?

  • I dont like the way you play it. sounds far to cheesy and not raw like the 78 recording.

  • Comment removed

  • @tmfoote6 It is my opinion. he is strumming it albeit with his finger nails but it was played finger style and just does not sound right being played this way. thanks for your OTT reply though

  • @rallyeluke rallyeluke: you are an idiot and a douche. This guy is giving the world his musical knowledge free of charge. If you are not intelligent enough to know that every piece of new information has value, than I pity you and eagerly await your departure from the human race as you are weighing the rest of us down

P.S. I don't think the '78 recording explained the licks...

  • @tmfoote6 most OTT response on youtube lol you should get out more

  • Hello great lesson can you do Six Days on the Road ?

  • This is more a commentary on general guitar. Takes 10 minutes to get to the chords. Put this under the tags. History of the fucking guitar.

  • Why I see 42 dislikes? :/

  • Man this is a great lesson Justin! You're the best!!

  • Guy BIG thanks i love this song and i'm training rythme that awesome training

  • I like your little earring.

  • im looking forward to play this song, great tutorial, but it's a bit to hard for me at the moment ;)

  • GREAT PLAYING!!! but for the love of god, please, please cut your nasty ass fingernails...wtf?

  • @sniperfxxx Guitarists have long fingernails on the righthand for picking/their own pick. So do I.

  • But where can I get the amp settings?

  • i didnt learn anything because u didnt explain in full detail about the chords

  • @Rorschachxx1985 The fretting for the chords in this video are as follows: Dm X57765, C X35553, Bb X13331, A X02220, A7 X02020, F 133211. Hope that helps.

  • @Rorschachxx1985 as he said, he's assuming you already know at least something about the different bar chord shapes. they are very simple, you should learn them

  • rythm gtr. played originally by david knopfler

  • Thank you very much, it is really a nice tutorial, you address the small da-drrraa part in the rhythm. Many other tutorials miss this small tweak and just teach the plain rhythm. It would be nice if you told what part is two separate guitars and what part is playable on a single guitar.

  • Started watching your vids thru guiterstringsforlife, thought they where good, but after this one, I'll watch no more due to your darwin fish. Sorry you've got that all wrong.

  • Thanks Justin you help me a lot with this video and like up and fav xDD

  • Finally got the rhythm! ...But I feel like Danial Son after he painted Mr. Miyagi's Fence... Both sides!!! up....down.....up......down.....

  • Justin,

Did you get into a bloody scrap the day before this video?

  • I'm playing with a pick...thanks for the lesson dude gonna move onto next solo licks. Is that a fender esquire? I'm using a yamaha silent. Cheers mate.

  • thank u!!

  • nice nails :)

  • cant move my strumming hand that fast! going to have to practice ALOT!

  • I found this very helpful! You're not only teaching how to play the song but also telling all kinds of useful facts about playing it. Thanks!

  • you are fantastic!

  • love the sticker, Justin

  • Awesome, Nice work man. Hey check out my channel, I did this solo too!

  • Marks brother, I think...

  • It would be amazing if you did a lesson teaching Mark Knopflers style of playing (like the scales he uses for solos or his picking style)

  • Holy mackerel. This is brilliant - awesome explanation, slow enough for a newbie like me but not so slow I lose interest. You may be my new hero. Although you make barre chords look so easy - I know 'how' to do them (i.e. make the shapes) but man they hurt - think the action on my gee-tar is a bit high. Either that or I'm just a weakling and need to harden up lol. Now, to find the next part ...

  • Hey, look! Jude Law plays the guitar! :O

  • His name is David Knopfler (Mark's brother), the rhythm guitarist of dire straits.

  • He doesn't want to make it cry or sing. BTW, evolution is a farce.

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs can you please tell me how to play the C, B and A chords that come in the rhythm after Dm? I'm not familiar with those ones.

  • Playing that rhythm right is really a challange.

  • @jack002tuber try singing with it...

  • HOla, perdona pero no sé Inglés. Lo primero enhorabuena pues está muy bien todo el tutorial. Y quería preguntarte las uñas que utilizas, qué marcas son, dónde se compran, o las haces? en fin, información. Gracias. Saludos.

  • 3:29 fuck this... i stop see here

  • I suspect that the quick triple is actually played rasgueado...

  • Where did you get that "Evolve" fish sticker ??

    I want one !!

...and BIG THANKS for the lesson

  • cool lesson! Thank you so much ^_^

  • So, what's there to dislike? Sultans of Swing is a MK/Dire Straights classic.

Justin has the best tutorial approach. Breaks it down to basic units and then puts it back together. Only way to learn such a long song with so many great riffs.

Too bad I live in the great white North and he in the UK. I could use some of his one on one classes!

  • David Knopfler is an underrated rythm guitar player. It's a shame that he quit the band so early...

Anyway, great lesson. (I'm already having problems with the rythm... I think I'm a lost cause... ;) )

  • Thanks to I you can touch the music now , You are very good =)

  • It actually is played with a pick becus dire straits had a rythm guitarist who played with a pick. His name was David Knopfler.

  • justin is the yoda of guitar just look at his lightsaber

  • which frets does press at the starting

  • @choku97

The Dm barre chord? You have to fret a A minor and then bar the 5th fret with your index.

  • Guys, I've written out tabs for this and I've just completed it. I hope it will help you guys as much as it helped me. I'll inform you when it's up, hopefully within the next 72 hours. Sorry for the delay though. If you know anywhere else I can post it and it appears straight away, please inform me.

  • By a mile the best tutor on line

  • wow! nice dude! thanks a lot!

  • Nice lesson but clip your nails.

  • @treysmithorama you need that for fingerstyle most of the time jackass

  • Thumb me up if after this lesson you said:

"Check out guitar Justin, he knows all the chords"

  • @thitiorthitao

    LOL, great one! ;)

  • First song I'm learning on my new Tele. 'Preciate it.

  • Thanks so much! Can't wait to try this solo. Just did the chords through the song yesterday and had a blast!

  • Thanks so much for the great lesson and explaining it all very clearly!

  • Great job, Justin. You made learning this easy. :)

  • Justin! Dude you rule \m/

  • Hi!

First of all, thank you for the awesome job you are doing. Second, I am not able to find the TAB for this song on your site, can somebody help me with this?

  • @Frlja Most tabs if not all have been removed from his site due to copyright issues. :(

  • @Maraz160

Well, that kinda sucks big time..I understand the concept of copyright when it comes down to putting on an actuall song or live footage..but a god damn tab, which was probably written down by Justin himself? Nonfuckinsense :(

  • You re a great teacher!!!!!

it's easy to play with you!

I'm playing with my guitar but sometimes the sound does not match, can you pass me the chords to be sure that i am doing in the right way?

  • Thanx Justin, you're a good teacher, really!!!

  • if you don't talk a lot and teach as you do it will be better , but totaly you are awesome

  • what a sexy guy. hehe

  • Thanks man, I just love your lessons.

  • got it. thenks!

  • hey guy,

thank you very much for your great lessons!

by the way, is this an ichthys with jahwe in it on your guitar?

    keep it up! =)

  • Hey Justin., in case no one has told you.... you are God! LMOL

Thanks again for a totally kick ass guitar lesson, I'm having a blast with it!

You in combination with my teacher have gotten me pretty far in my older age.

Keep up the great work and I'll donate soon, I promise.....

    Peace!

  • Are those EMG Active pickups on the Fender Justin?

  • Thanks for the video;P! Really appreciate it!

  • Great video, thanks for all your efforts.

  • You (justin) and martyswartz are the best guitar teachers on YB, so easy to follow, i've learnt so much from you guys, thanks.

  • Thanks for the vid, I've been wanting to get started on this tune for a while now, and this is a good start.

  • @zZzFernandezZz it's not necessary to bar the f chord... it is easier in this song to do so, but you can play a open f chord just as well :)

  • It's great video, but it doesn't work for me cause I'm not that good yet...... =(

  • great stuff man thanks for this

  • Thanks dude. Glad to see you emphasise the importance of rhythm :) Do you teach at Guitar x in acton??? Swear I've seen you there? Maybe I'm just crazy :S

  • Ok slow the fuck down

  • STFU and just teach the song. Thanks though.

  • great thanks

  • Absolutely brilliant lessons!

  • Thank you for your hard work. Much respect for your talent, style, and sharing.

  • omg he's barring those notes -_-

  • Hlow do you the the "mute" click ?? i dont understand in the beginning!

  • @piggvar123

watch his left hand, do you see how he picks up his hand a *tiny* bit? That's the mute click.

You keep your hand in position on that chord so you can dip right back into it, and you pick up your hand just enough to mute the notes and get that rythmic "chick" sound. Just like the start of Nirvana's teen spirit: na na chicka chicka na na na na na chicka chicka.

it's also called a choked chord.

    keep at it!

  • I have quite a lot of problems with playing this. Im playing on acoustic, I know the chords no problem, and I can do them. Just the strumming pattern I find hard. It always sounds like the bass E string dominates the sound, in a not-nice way :P

  • @aussiepassenger If you notice justin may be holding down the lower strings with a barre technique on the left hand, but his picking hand is focusing on the middle/upper strings. Sometimes when your strumming and trying to get a fluttery sound that isn't muddy you'll kinda start your chord stroke on the fourth or fifth string. You'll still fret the other notes so you don't get dissonance but it's a more trebl-y sound.

  • @esacnivek

Yes I kinda thought of that just after. Thanks for explaining though, i'll work on it :P

  • Can u please do "old love", eric clapton version! I would be eternally gratefull

  • Great job thanks for videos! =)

  • whats up with the tuning i can't get my lower strings to sound like that :?

  • @streetballer4rel

notice that the bottom string is muted through almost the whole thing, and the second-lowest doesn't get much use either.

The whole lead part revolves almost entirely around the top 4 strings.

"Allright now" by free is similar.

In fact, in the studio sometimes they'll take the bottom two strings off!

  • @esacnivek even on the power chords i meant

  • hi, Justin, I thing your lesson are the most useful in the tube...great job.

  • Justin............hats off to you !!! I have not come across a better tutorial on the web than your's. I have tabbed all what you have said in your video, & played it as well. It just is amazing. I am a huge Knopfler fan, wish you could put across a few tutorials for great solo pieces like "Don't you get it (Golden Heart)", "Baloney Again" etc. Your videos are so very motivational and encouraging that I can't get enough of them...........Way to go!!!

  • Great video, thanks! :)

  • Whoever is trying to down this guy is just fucking around. Theres no way they could be serious. This dude is fab on the guitar! Come on...

  • Justin, I remember when I started playing the guitar I saw your lessons and found them to be not my style, not the way I wanted to play, so I kept learning alone, without help. Today, I know how useful your whole concept is and it is such a great thing that it is free for passionate youngsters like me. I just wanted to say thanks for your great job, playing, and inspiration. :)

  • Some people are just born critics........have to create some flaw in everything if they don't find any.....I think you are awesome Justin.....just play on man.
