Yes, I've covered Hendrix. You definitely have me thinking about doing some more of his material. Good suggestion. Regarding what I've done already, one of my videos is a cover of "The Wind Cries Mary" that I built using an ancient recording of me playing it acoustically with one of my friends. Other than that, the cyber jams that I did with jwwetzel (#1 and #12) were definitely done with Hendrix in mind, although they weren't actual covers.
Yes, that sounds like a good idea. I have a few ideas coming to mind on how to arrange it too. I'm a bit exhausted at the moment, but I should have some energy within the next couple days to get started on that. I'll message you sometime this weekend, and we'll put a plan together. Thanks for being up for this.
Yes klasek,Alanstrainor is a highly talented player. His guitar sings.roars and wails..He is very young.Wait a couple of years and he will become a notorious blues slingers. He is amazing
eliteslayer66 - The music that really hits you emotionally will eventually come out in what you play. You'll be surprised what you'll be able to do if you really put your heart and soul into it. Keep on playing that guitar!
yeah, it might seem like you hit a brick wall when you start soloing but trust me, like everything your time and effort will not go unrewarded, you'll be soloing like a mad man soon enough, keep it up
hi man, your video is really cool! congratulations for your great playing! I have a question, what kind of amp or pedal are you playing? you sounds with a nice distortion!
Alan and I thank you! I'm actually playing through a Pod II amp emulator plugged into the sound card of my computer. Alan is playing through Fender Blues Deluxe.
Much appreciated, thank you! The journey began with baby steps, but the steps are gradually getting bigger. I'm so grateful to everyone that has subscribed to my site so far!
Amazing bro! I love the licks and tones. The call and response at the end was sweet! When my twin and I jam we get the best of both worlds. I'm a Gibson LP\Marshall guy and he's a Strat\Fender Deluxe guy.
LP808 - Yes, it's nice to mix the Gibson and Fender sounds. I have a friend that I've been playing with in bands for years, and he's primarily a Gibson player these days. It can be a powerful combo.
Wow. This one sounds really great. Both the playing and the tone. It's definitely Tex Specials! Hahaha. Are you using a Fender '57 twin amp on this one?
Wow! Sounded really awesome. I really didn't expect a Line 6 product. I used to own a Spider II but it sounded really lifeless so I got my Vox intead! But yeah, the Fender CHamp is no surprize! Haha.
Oh THOSE. Yeah those are really dynamites man. The bar i work at has one of that and maaan... it's small but there's a monster tone inside man. Np bout the props. you guys deserved it!
If you want that SRV sound get a strat install texas specials, get as high gauge strings as possible, and see if you can find out what srv's action was set at, i believe it was very high.
Absolutely. Texas Specials are the way to go. My strat has them. These days I'm using a .010-set for strings. I used to go heavier, but I got tired of my fingers throbbing with pain the morning after a show. I'm reasonably happy with the tone I'm getting now, so I'm not too worried about it. If you can handle a larger guage, my hat is off to you.
I'm not sure how often Alan looks at the comments for this video, so you may want to direct the question directly to him if you haven't already. I'm personally not sure how much strats are selling for in the UK.
okay, this is the model, i cant post a url here, but on the fender site look up stratocaster, then click on the classic tab on the left, it's the 60's one. nothing much at all really, it cost me some where in the region of €600, so it'd be more or less the same price for you in the u.k, it's not about the p-ups it's about the way you play, klasek has Texas specials but he get's that gorgeous rounded tone, I get that "sharper" tone because of my aggressive attack.
oh and i use 11 gauge strings for that extra "pop" but it doesn't make that much of a difference, i've used up to 13s but they're insane, they destroy your fingers, 11's are the ones for me,
This is outstanding, very inspiring stuff. Im looking around for a new strat, but i cannot afford the srv signature model. Is there a good alternative to replicating his tone?
mine is a classic 60'a model, really cheap, and well if you like the tone i have going on in this vid i would recommend it, and just put a black pick guard on it and you're set.
Thanks! The SRV model looks and sound great, but a run-of-the-mill Fender can be every bit as satisfying. I would start out with a rosewood-neck strat that feels good to you. If it doesn't quite have that bite you were looking for, then you can always install "Texas Specials" later. They are purposely overwound single-coils that are designed to duplicate the output of the pickups in Stevie's "#1" strat. I have them installed in my Frankenstrat, and they've been good to me so far.
That's such a cool idea, to have multiple people participating! Both of you really put down some serious SRV styles. Beautiful strats and strat sounds! If ever you guys do a fast shuffle track, like "empty arms", let me know, I'd love to give it a shot!
That's very kind of you. Alan and I thank you! You bring up a good idea. I'm actually committed to do two other cyber jam videos at the moment, but I would definitely be interested in doing something like "Empty Arms" too. Thanks for your interest!
Thanks, Trev! I admire you for following your instincts! Stand proud with Jimi Hendrix, Albert King, Paul McCartney, Dick Dale and so many others who bucked the trend.
Klasek, thanks for the great comment and great rating on my video. Mention the video to your friends.
I checked out your Cyber Jam #7 video. Your tone is amazing. You have blues chops to die for. Luv the way you superimposed Stevie Ray over yourself, and also the different images of you blazing away on your Strat. I will check out more of your videos.
Hey, klasek! After you saw my video, I went to watch you videos, too. And I have to say that I really enjoyed watching you play, very nice. You're a real pro! I hope that some day I will achieve you playing level...
sdrazen - That's extremely kind of you. Thank you. I can tell that you have a passion for the music. Keep on playing that guitar! Also, keep on listening to the great ones like BB King, Albert King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, etc., and you'll continue to grow as a musician. I know I'll always have something to learn from them.
Lately, I've been using my POD amp emulator plugged into the sound card of my computer. I like that setup because I can hear a fairly complete mix coming through my stereo speakers as I'm playing.
Ha ha! Thanks! Alan is quite a guitar-man, isn't he?
I'm actually going to take a (little) bit of time off from the cyber jams for a few weeks (just to get caught up on other things). I'll still be logging into YouTube, but just to see the sights and hear the sounds.
I appreciate that Dave, thank you. Alan thanks you as well. Stevie has been an inspiration to me since the first time I ever heard him play. I'm lucky I had a chance to see him perform on stage.
your playing here kinda reminds me of Buddy Guy... that vibrato is fantastic!
i feel like cyber-jammin with ya', yet i dont know if my skills are up to par yet :/

Dabomb782 - Thanks! Yes, I do think your skills are up to par for a cyber jam. Did you have a particulr tune in mind?
klasek 3 years ago
well not exactly, but have you done any hendrix-style cyber jams yet?
Dabomb782 3 years ago
Yes, I've covered Hendrix. You definitely have me thinking about doing some more of his material. Good suggestion. Regarding what I've done already, one of my videos is a cover of "The Wind Cries Mary" that I built using an ancient recording of me playing it acoustically with one of my friends. klasek 3 years ago
actually, come to think of it, Little Wing just crossed my mind. Or maybe even Red House.
Little wing would be first in mind for me because of the cool chord structure is really good for soloing. What do you think?
Dabomb782 3 years ago
Yes, that sounds like a good idea. I have a few ideas coming to mind on how to arrange it too. why have you got a left handed trem on ur guitar
john19921 4 years ago
look at Stevie ray Vaughan and you'll see why, the trem arm is much easier to use when it's closer to your picking hand, and it plain looks cool
alanstrainor 4 years ago
Thanks, Alan! It doesn't rate nearly as high on the coolness scale as SRV's "#1," but it turned out OK.
klasek 4 years ago
