Stuart Hamblen's huge pop hit of 1954, “This Ole House” (made a #1 hit by Rosemary Clooney) became a standard of gospel singers. The Statesmen sang that song en route to victory that year on CBS’ “Arthur Godfrey Talent Scouts” TV program. And nearly three decades later, the Cathedral Quartet’s version of the song became one of the most popular songs featuring their popular bass singer, George Younce. One must understand...this style of music came from the streets...Barbershop quartet..jazz and so on..at the time the Church and some Christians thought it was to worldly..so old time time is old time then..each generation enjoys a different style as long as they serve the risen Christ...
I love it! They act like someone who's getting ready to move to a better house and a better neighborhood. Praise the Lord! Ain't got time to fix this stuff...it's just stuff. Gotta better place waitin' for me.
Exactly! I don't care for it, All that canned music and then the instruments, What ever happened to the piano organ a few pickers and the old time singers? I mean, Praise & Worship canned TV music in church? What is going on?
Thanks for sharing. Loved this video. I agree George Younce does a great job on this too. Now I see where the piano player from Ernie Haase's group mimics his attitude from...love it!
Now I just bought the CD with this song expecting Big Cheif to sing the verses and was plesently surprised to find that Jake sings this. I like this version alot actually

I agree with midnight, there's nothing like the origionals. All this contemporary christian is just TV fluff.
