But, you really need a physical keyboard to be productive. I can see more laptops with a detectable screen in the future or at lest a wireless keyboard for when you need one.
I really doubt we will see Desktop/Laptops fade away any time soon. Tablets are more of a toy. First off, there is no reason that a tablet can't do everything a Desktop computer can. It you remember, that was how tablets were before Apple got involved. Apple likes to dumb things down. That's their target audience, people who need things dumbed down for them.
@metalx1000 You shouldn't say "dumbed down", it makes you sound an elitist.
I know you're not, you're the kind of person that wish anybody could use a computer. I know you mean it's watered down and restricted with an easier UI for novices.
But who says something that's easy for novices has to have less power tools?
I don't care if the standard looks like a child's UI, just as long it's hardware I want and I can put whatever software I want. on it and make it look how I want it.
It's all about portability. Smartphones/tablets will be more for portability, but really won't take over the Office Desktops. For productivity tablets just wouldn't cut it.
The thing is how are you going to edit photos with gimp or play pc games , I don't think tablets are just going replace pc, if anything it will be a mix or they will become the same thing like you have you tablet when you on the bus and when you come home you put it in a dock and it pretty much becomes you pc , I don think tables are going to take over soon if at all.
I agree with you man, 100%. Tablets still have quite a fair way to go. I think its quite funny these ppl who talk about them replacing pcs. It's like if you were to mention that basically a big ipod touch is whats going to replace computers a few years back people would have laughed. But these same people as soon heir Jobs says that is what's gonna happen are like yeah the pcs are dead their days are numbered, blah!
Tablets would be bitching to make beats with and yes I'd give me old duck one... not only could see be grooving to some tunes but cooking up a storm with some e-reading
in a moble device, I would be worried about Bit Decay in my non-removable storage and my battery because a battery's half-life is only 2 years.
So, if either one of those parts break, I'm fucked, I can't just get replacement parts from newegg.
With a Laptop, you can get a new hard drive and battery easily.
My dream Tablet is something like the eee pad transformer with Stark, 4GB of RAM, Removable Batter and Hard Drive, (Like archos devices) SDXC Card, USB 3.0, HDMI out and an e-ink layer.
Well both tablets and computers have their advantages and disadvantages. While tablets are becoming quite popular they are not still nearly as functional as a netbook. They are more like toys with their touchscreen keyboards. However both tablet and PC can access the internet!
tablets will take over when the first 1tb flash card comes out

I think tablets are ok for "normal" people, and as a complement for geeks, nerds, IT ninjas.

it will be mixed mate, tabs just dont have the power or funtionality for editing video.
i see tabs/smartphone as your multi media hub for all the simple things in life, but for real work you need a good box...nuff said
