Bright Object in Our Southern Sky ...

i live in new zealand and i see it every night!!!!! i work night shift so i always get to have a look.

Everyone out there I am still tracking this. Almost every night. I have been looking up at the sky for all my life. I am an old dude and I have NEVER NEVER NEVER seen this before! It is not a star and it is not a planet. It is always SW to SE depending on the time of night. I travel all over the country and I can see it every where. (duh) I have looked at it with basic Binocs and it slightly helps. Someone out there with a good telescope and filter(its bright) get some more info on this.

I have seen this now for about 2yrs. It is always in the southern sky. It is not a star and it can't be a planet. Because it is almost stationery(geosynchronous?) It does start in the SW and crosses to the SE over the course of the night. But next night there it is again. It is either REALLY big or REALLY CLOSE or some combination of both. It also seems to gyrate somewhat. I am glad I am not the only one who notices this. Please keep track of it.

I live in Mladen, Massachusetts 10 miles North of Boston, and i see it almost every night and it without a doubt the 2nd biggest object in the sky when the moons not out.. it pulsates and sometimes moves and with a visual aid you'll see and Red ,Silver-White like those car headlights you can buy, Blue and yellow with a telescope... and burns constant like a blowtorch.. its a Sun type object in my opinion.. but not our Sun. im 45 yrs old & never ever seen something like this. wake up people

Just saw your comments. The reason it looked odd through binoculars is that the lenses and prisms in the binoculars tend to spread the light of a very bright object. What you saw was the planet Venus. Confirm it for yourself by downloading astronomy software Voyager or Stellarium. Set your city, time and place and they will show you the precise position of all bright stars and planets. Dead easy and fun! Try it.

during the month of Aug, Jupiter's orbit is at it's closes distince to the earth. We've been veiwing it for the last couple of weeks through our telescopes. In the Northern hemisphere beginning March 25th and for the following few days Venus will be seen both in the evening and in the morning skies. In April it will be seen only in the morning sky. Venus goes through an eight-year cycle of becoming very bright. I have read with amusement many of the outrageously uninformed and imaginative comments made here! I have seen this star many times over the years since I learned to spot the planets. It is Venus. It is very familiar to me and I have seen it as bright as that many times. Jimpsterz is correct. Grab a telescope and get a good look at it before it's gone. Venus is just brighter this time simply because more of it's surface reflection of the Sun's rays are visible to us. Think of the Moons phases. At times we see more of the reflected rays from the moon etc.etc. Same thing with Venus this time around. I suppose the news and what not felt it wasn't important to announce, unless they did and I missed it.

Well Venus is getting closer to Earth and as it moves closer to Earth the larger and brighter it comes.

I assure you though, what you're seeing in the night sky is NOT Nibiru and I'm 95% sure what you're looking at is Venus.

The object you're talking about is Venus, currently at western enlongation. Its visible at early dusk and quickly falls below the horizon. Venus is the brightest planet in our solar system from our vantage point. Check with an astronomy site and their star charts. It often looks oblong because it is most likely not full. By this i mean it goes through phases like our moon from our view point.

My Daughter and I have been watching this object for some time now. This object is out of the ordinary for how bright it is! It's Venus I'm sure. It is usually the brightest thing in the sky, people called it Venus after the roman god of love because it's so beautiful. Usually appears after sunset, and I can't seem to get a magnification clear enough to form a circular shape of the planet perhaps due to it's brightness I suppose. You can actually see quite clearly with binoculars or a small telescope Jupiter and Saturn as well though not as bright atmospheric bands of clouds on the planets and moons.

Yeah its been there for about 8 or 9 months.. Just not sure.. if it is Venus than why is getting brighter every week?

I believe that is Venus as well, as dos my father, as he showed me from his constellation and sky charts book. It was strange too, the other night when there was a crescent moon, the "object" was above the inset of the moon, mimicking the symbol of Islam. I got this strange chill down my spine and went inside. Maybe it was because it was 5 below zero....

i seen it and it was close so close my jaw dropped and i was stuck looking at this bright light up in space but i never noticed it that close be for it was amazing! kinda humbling wow it was close i wish i took a pic :( ill see if i can still see it to morrow if its still their

Ive seen it I made a few videos of it one of which I sent to you as a response to your video. That thing is bright it shines through clouds. I zoomed in to it pause it when you see it. It looks very odd.
