The highest REAL contrast ratio you'll find on a consumer-lever tv is 5000-8000:1

this tv is awesome. I have the 46" version, and I couldn't be happier. I friggin returned about 5 tv's (2 Lg's, 2 sony, 1 sharp) before landing on this one. I don't know why I wasn't looking at Samsung to start with, but I'm really glad I ended up with one. BluRay looks insanely good, as do ps3 games, and DVD/HD-cable even look great (SD kinda sux). My girlfriend and I don't even go to the movies anymore, I've had 4 passes for about 6mo. now and we still just prefer to watch BluRays on this tv.

The one that gives the Kuro Elite a run for its money is the a950 the highest lcd samsung has this year. This Samsung has better blacks in the light but in the dark the only LCD to date that can compete with the Pioneer is the brand new A950 with local dimming. This is still an amazing tv and in some ways more fun to look at at the more boring cinematic look of a Plasma but when it comes to blacks in a dark room only the new a950 can truly compete and in some cases its even darker.

ISony is the #1 brand in consumer reports but i prefer samsung which came in 2nd at consumer reports. I think samsung is better because you get more bang for your buck the tv is very user friendly it has a plug and play option in the menu it asks you about 7 questions once that is complete you are ready to watch tv!! I think samsungs have better sound because it has a plastics piece (it hides the speakers) but it also acts as a deflector for the sound so it bounces across your room!!

I have been wanting this TV for a LONG time just waiting for the price to be low enough. Been able to find the 52" a650 in the $2350neighborhood so I'm just about ready to pounce on it. I was really hoping the sony 52 xbr4 price would drop as much as the samsung, but the damn thing is still around $3100, ugh. At least it made my decision easier

I went with the 40'' version of this in the UK, its great but really shows up shitty sources like terestial TV and and DVD. Through HDMI the upscaling is great though, really vivid, very bright :)

If you run a DVD off an analogue source, as in scart etc, it looks terrible. Similarly, so does the terestial tv. I would assume the DVD you saw was running in a blu ray player or atleast a DVD player with HDMI which carries the signal digitally. As such it looks better

yea live in stl got it from circuit city..46 inch..its actually voted 2nd best lcd tv of 08 so far..paid like 1500 plus like 180 tax and 3 yr insurance. It simply flawless..even upscaling dvds look better.

ask anybody too, the judder 120 hz has been fixed in this tv. however, the contrast ratios have been over blown. and are actually worse than the 550s and 6971's. if bright areas its basically "overcontrasted" compare those 3 tv's side byside and youll see what i mean... for the record i own the 650 too. 52 inch, i love it.

the a750 wireless plasma 58 inch wireless tv is the best from samsung, but panasonics, and pioneers best blow samsung's plasma out of the water. - source, i own this tv in the 52 inch, the 750 has built in memory. and i work at a tv store.

Errrr... yeh. The best "Sammy" has ever made. They are far from being a true contender like the best plasma's in the league though: The giants Panasonic and Pioneer. They reign supreme in plasma tech and Sammy do not compare. But when it comes to LCD's, thats a different story. Sammy are definitely in the league.
