Love how everyone's hating on NIN, even though it's their's and always will be as far as I am concerned. This cover scrapped any anguish or deseperation NIN had. I can respect Cash's version but eh. The best form of a cover for this song is the joint NIN and David Bowie live versions played on tour in 1995.
@MuRdOcKMuRdErZ I messed up in what i was trying to put. No fucking shit this is hundredth lol but what i meant is i know this song is nine inch nails but johnny cash made this song his own.But yes i know this is hundredth i'm not an idiot but i understand since i messed up what i was trying to say.
This is not a bad version of the song, its actually a unique twist on the song as I see it. The screaming is not something I like but it fits with this cover very well, I can just hear him screaming on top of the world, looking down at everything with tears and anger streaming everywhere. I also think the ending with the non-screaming vocals melding in make a haunting harmony that makes this song very good. I wish it was in more of the song but still, this band did a good job. This is my opinion
@Riunez77 I can't say that I agree with you, I was sent here from a comment on the original NIN video, and I don't like this version and it's because of the fact that this is scream, and that doesn't fit the song since if he doesn't know if he feels anymore ("I hurt myself today, to see if I still feel") he wouldn't scream since screaming is about letting out your pain. I think this is about a man and depression and scream music doesn't really fit that type. *note- I don't listen to scream
@BloodRhino I can actually agree with you there about what you are saying, I just like to give things a new twist and at first, I would side with your exact opinion. I only listen to very few songs like "My Last Serenade" because of the part where he is not screaming, but for some songs it is all screaming. I guess you have a good point about the depression part, people sometimes get really angry but usually expressing in screams is not what they do. Let me put this another way in next comment.
@BloodRhino I think if you take out the screaming and listen to the acoustic and the end where you hear him just sing it normally in that sad, echo sounding voice it would be a good version because of that. I am more happy with the instrument in this one then any other version and I think that is why I listen to it. The second verse when it picks up, that guitar sounds so intense that is why I love it. I agree with you, and I note you don't listen to scream, I don't really either.
@Riunez77 I think your right about the instrument thing it works better then the others. and it would be a great cover if it was the part at the end and with out the screaming over the top. And on a random non related note Soul Eater + Cry Little Sister = WINNING!!!!
@BloodRhino Haha I am glad you can see it that way, cause I think its nice for people to realize that the instrumental part in a song is part of why the song is good in general. This can be true but not always with every song. You like it? I know right!? Its so freaking amazing, one of my favorite AMV'S! Soul Eater fans for the win! It fits so nicely, glad to know someone else loves it too. =D
Everyone that says this is horrible probably only listened to the beginning.. but when the song picks up, it sounds good. I still do think that Johnny Cash's version is the best, and personally I believe NIN is just awful all together.... once again, my opinion. If i get a bunch of crap for saying I dont like NIN, then you're stupid.
this is amazing, im assuming the people who dont like it just arnt metalcore fans, NiN / johnny cash - Hundredth would sound horrible from that point of view haha
@brettyalphaomega really? i thought it was pretty sick, but that's just me. listen to Desolate by Hundredth. that's one of their more well known songs
Hmmm I sense no emotion in this or anything. It just sounds like he's screaming it. At least with NIN and Cash they had emotion. And I dislike that they distorted the screaming in the beginning. Its ok, but not that good.
@Biffenstein1 idk to me it sounds like there's not really any emotion behind most of the screaming. It's not too bad of a cover, but it just sounded more detached than NIN's and Cash's versions of it.
omfg :O i got goosebumbs over my whole body right now! this is definitely one of the best covers ive ever heard, soo much emotion and meaning to it, i love it :D
@xINKELAARx before you accuse someone of being wrong, you should make sure you have your facts straight. NIN released Hurt in 1994. Johnny Cash covered it and released his version in 2002 on his album The Man Comes Around :)
