I get a little bit chocked up every time I hear this song. I am anti war... but I love my veterans <3 bring the boys back home. Because we need heros like you *here*.
i just saw him in berlin... really disturbing pictures... the question is, does Waters do anything for kids like that poor little black boy (0:20) who has mostly just bones, or he uses the image of hunger just to shock people who have plenty to eat AND pay a load of money to attend his concerts?
@guidi73 Better this than Bono or Sting who did not do a shit against the US bully attitude... Bono is only worried abouut "the planet" "the irakies" He do not dare to critize the Empire.
In a time when Europe and the US are trying to babysit the planet by entering conflicts and occupying countries that should be neither any of our business or concern, this song is more relevant than ever.
What an incredible show! I just saw it a few nights ago and was blown away on all levels. I'm glad someone is using their fame to decry this inhuman SCAM called War and the Ruling Class Sociopaths that profit from it. War, politics and money are Obsolete. We need a new way forward, like the Venus Project.
I, too, am tired of all of the pain, hatred, and stagnation that the abuse of money has brought upon the world. Indeed, it is time for a resource-based society and the Venus Project!
@michmat77 Same here. I saw it in Dallas, and it was incredible. This song was all the more meaningful and powerful than ever before. I mean the whole show was amazing, but this song, and Vera was enough to make anyone cry.
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed."
Is uh... is Roger having some vocal issues? (Yeah, I get that his voice is pretaped here because Roger hasn't had a voice strong enough for this song in decades, but it seems like they forgot to bring him in here...)
Glad I waited until after I'd seen the show live (twice!) to watch YouTube videos. Better to go into the show with no idea of how spectacular it is and then be blown away by it.
@drCox12 i am pretty sure the meaning is Roger's view that War sucks, and that this work is based on a semi-biographical fact that his Dad was killed in WW2 when Roger was just a few months old

I saw the show twice, in Toronto. And I don't think he pre taped it. I was actually expecting him to.

@lilyFLOYDfan Oh yeah, this song is *definitely* pretaped. Roger hasn't had the pipes to sing this song since 1985 at *least*.

He's not supposed to be "in", no vocal issues. I just saw the show in Hartford and he crushed the whole thing. amazing
