It's just a popularity contest - watch how people less famous than others are quick to go out, simply because they don't score highly on the recognition factor. Watch how good looking blokes get to the end or win it, just because they get the vote of the housewife.

@mikeance The girl was the amateur dancer, used to be in a band called mis-teeq and is now a solo artist. Shes also a judge on this show now and has been for two years.

The next year she came back in the Christmas special and wiped the floor with the likes of Jill and Kelly.

@Buuub08 No, you're right. It's a televised dancing competition form England called Strictly Come Dancing. They pair a male or female professional dancer with a celebrity who's not a dancer - usually sports stars, singers or Soap Opera actors or actresses. Matthew's a Professional Dancer, Alicia Dixon is a solo singer. This is from a few years ago now and this couple won the comp. The American version is called Dancing With the Stars!
@LeopoldStotchRules christmas specials as there has been no-one who would be considered a weak dancer in even the top two. Jill has also won more than Alesha as Jill has won two chistmas special and Alesha didn't even make the top two in the 2007 christmas special. In fact she was bottom with the judges on that occasion. Therefore in the opinion of myself and the voting public, Jill is an overall better dancer.

She was so over rated.. how on earth did she ever make it as a judge. Shes not a good judge jonny all she says ks.. can i just say you look amazing in that dress, and hang in there and bring it next week, its the same thing over n over again. Not once has she named an actual ballroom or latin step. I liked the chemistry between the judges before arlene phillips has been around for years and even judged me in comps. And it was funny when they all started disagreeing. Theres hardly any of that now
@XXstilletoXX its a fact that alesha is the best celeb scd has ever had craig revel horward said she is the best out of all the celebritys. and the most successful contestant to ever take part in Strictly Come Dancing, with an average point score of 36.5/40, the highest average score from any contestant to ever take part in the show.
@bitterpop101 Go and watch Jills jive and then tell me Alesha's attempt was better. Jills flicks and kicks are much sharper and the choreography is far more complex. Arlene claimed that Jill was at the standard of a professional Latin dancer. The dances were not overmarked in the earlier series and were judged fairly. If we're judging on success Jill has won the most strictly trophies and Rachel has achieved far more 10s and perfect scores than Alesha.
@XXstilletoXX i do think Alesha was very overmarked. 35 seemed to be the default score, regardless of how she danced. This jive has energy, but the technique isn't great.

@CherrysFanVids11 Jill won the audience vote that night, Alesha won the judges vote. The judges placed Alesha higher on the leader board, if you remember :) So from a dancing POV, the judges said Alesha was better than Jill. It was the audience that preferred Jill and really, what do they know about dancing?
@LeopoldStotchRules They actually recieved the same score and it was only when they were forced to choose between them, Alesha did better and that was Len's decision. If it was another judge it may have been different. Considering Len gave Kara and Gavin the same score this week, I really don't think his opinion is much better than the publics.
@CherrysFanVids11 Actually, I have it on my computer and what Len said was "we have discussed it and in first place we would have Alesha & Matthew". So it seems to me the whole judging panel placed Alesha higher than Jill. I'm sure if it had been latin, they'd have placed Jill higher because in that she was superior but in ballroom, as evidenced in the Christmas special you so thoughtfully brought up, Alesha was superior to Jill. The judges sentiments and also mine :)

Going back to the original point made, this was 4 years after Jill won so if they were against eachother after Jill won (not possible for obvious reasons, I know) then I have no doubt the outcome would have been different because obviously Jill isn't as good as she was when she won. Also it may have been two judges against two and then Len got to make the final decision; we don't actually know. The public also tend to vote on dancing in.....

Because it was a tie, the judges had to rank them in order, putting Alesha at the top of the board. Don't know your background, but I'm quite happy to take their opinion over yours. Also, Alesha has the highest average score of any contestant ever on Strictly.

I like alesha as well but certinly her Jive is nowhere near as good as Gabby Logans Jive a few years earlier, but we all know its a popularity contest now, not a dance contest because as good as Gabby was she was apparently not liked by the public for some obscure reason ?
I foresee MP Ann lasting along long time this year which will have me for one turning off very quickly ! Lets allow the professional Judges to decide, at least untill the final, then the best "celeb" dancers will prevail
I like Alesha, she can dance, but she's not that good. If you watch this without the music you'll see how slow & heavy footed she is. This is a very slow paced jive, nowhere near as good as I'd expect from a winner! Also I don't like her as a judge. It's ludicrous for her to judge the contestants, what does she know about technique etc. nothing! I wasn't a fan of Arlene but she knew what she was talking about & gave constructive criticism instead of saying "you was pretty" like Alesha does!
A) It was the second week of the competition and she was a learner. So why would you expect her to be a professional?
B) SCD is an entertainment show. She is entertaining. Plus she was trained in ballroom and latin dancing for 5 straight months by a professional. Arlene has never been trained in ballroom and latin. She was a show choreographer. Two entirely different mediums of dance.
C) If Alesha isn't allowed to compliment on looks, why was Arlene allowed to?
They should bring back Matthew and Ian :(

@XXstilletoXX Well, she did. She ranked top with the judges, but not with the audience. So technically that makes her a better dancer, but not quite as popular. She wasn't fucking over marked you moron, because as Arlene said in response to Alesha's samba "I only expect perfection from you Alesha", indicating Alesha was marked on a different scale to the other celebrities, and furthermore would have been UNDERMARKED.

Yep she got 39 from the judges but so did Rachel, Jill and Kelly... so that technically DOES NOT make her a better dancer than them. As for Arlene she has numerously stated that Jill is the best dancer to appear on the show and that her Jive was the best dance to be performed on strictly. She also stated Jill was at pro standard week 3.

@Buuub08 No, you're right. It's a televised dancing competition form England called Strictly Come Dancing. They pair a male or female professional dancer with a celebrity who's not a dancer - usually sports stars, singers or Soap Opera actors or actresses. Matthew's a Professional Dancer, Alicia Dixon is a solo singer. This is from a few years ago now and this couple won the comp. The American version is called Dancing With the Stars!

@LeopoldStotchRules christmas specials as there has been no-one who would be considered a weak dancer in even the top two. Jill has also won more than Alesha as Jill has won two chistmas special and Alesha didn't even make the top two in the 2007 christmas special. In fact she was bottom with the judges on that occasion. Therefore in the opinion of myself and the voting public, Jill is an overall better dancer.

She was so over rated.. how on earth did she ever make it as a judge. Shes not a good judge jonny all she says ks.. can i just say you look amazing in that dress, and hang in there and bring it next week, its the same thing over n over again. Not once has she named an actual ballroom or latin step. I liked the chemistry between the judges before arlene phillips has been around for years and even judged me in comps. And it was funny when they all started disagreeing. Theres hardly any of that now

@bitterpop101 Go and watch Jills jive and then tell me Alesha's attempt was better. Jills flicks and kicks are much sharper and the choreography is far more complex. Arlene claimed that Jill was at the standard of a professional Latin dancer. The dances were not overmarked in the earlier series and were judged fairly. If we're judging on success Jill has won the most strictly trophies and Rachel has achieved far more 10s and perfect scores than Alesha.

@XXstilletoXX i do think Alesha was very overmarked. 35 seemed to be the default score, regardless of how she danced. This jive has energy, but the technique isn't great.

@CherrysFanVids11 Jill won the audience vote that night, Alesha won the judges vote. The judges placed Alesha higher on the leader board, if you remember :) So from a dancing POV, the judges said Alesha was better than Jill. It was the audience that preferred Jill and really, what do they know about dancing?

@LeopoldStotchRules They actually recieved the same score and it was only when they were forced to choose between them, Alesha did better and that was Len's decision. If it was another judge it may have been different. Considering Len gave Kara and Gavin the same score this week, I really don't think his opinion is much better than the publics.

@CherrysFanVids11 Actually, I have it on my computer and what Len said was "we have discussed it and in first place we would have Alesha & Matthew". So it seems to me the whole judging panel placed Alesha higher than Jill. I'm sure if it had been latin, they'd have placed Jill higher because in that she was superior but in ballroom, as evidenced in the Christmas special you so thoughtfully brought up, Alesha was superior to Jill. The judges sentiments and also mine :)

Going back to the original point made, this was 4 years after Jill won so if they were against eachother after Jill won (not possible for obvious reasons, I know) then I have no doubt the outcome would have been different because obviously Jill isn't as good as she was when she won. Also it may have been two judges against two and then Len got to make the final decision; we don't actually know. The public also tend to vote on dancing in.....

Also Jill has won 2 christmas specials whereas Alesha has only won one. ANOTHER FACT. Fair enough that Alesha was placed higher than Jill on the night but I'd also like to point out the American Smooth is a dance that Jill had never danced before as they didn't do it in her series.THIRD FACT.

I'm sorry to say your logic is wrong because according to your theory; Alesha is better than Jill, Jill is better than Gethin, and Gethin is better than Alesha. That doesn't really add up does it? Because it was a tie, the judges had to rank them in order, putting Alesha at the top of the board. Don't know your background, but I'm quite happy to take their opinion over yours. Also, Alesha has the highest average score of any contestant ever on Strictly.

I like alesha as well but certinly her Jive is nowhere near as good as Gabby Logans Jive a few years earlier, but we all know its a popularity contest now, not a dance contest because as good as Gabby was she was apparently not liked by the public for some obscure reason ?
I foresee MP Ann lasting along long time this year which will have me for one turning off very quickly ! Lets allow the professional Judges to decide, at least untill the final, then the best "celeb" dancers will prevail

I like Alesha, she can dance, but she's not that good. If you watch this without the music you'll see how slow & heavy footed she is. This is a very slow paced jive, nowhere near as good as I'd expect from a winner! Also I don't like her as a judge. It's ludicrous for her to judge the contestants, what does she know about technique etc. nothing! I wasn't a fan of Arlene but she knew what she was talking about & gave constructive criticism instead of saying "you was pretty" like Alesha does!

A) It was the second week of the competition and she was a learner. So why would you expect her to be a professional?
B) SCD is an entertainment show. She is entertaining. Plus she was trained in ballroom and latin dancing for 5 straight months by a professional. Arlene has never been trained in ballroom and latin. She was a show choreographer. Two entirely different mediums of dance.
C) If Alesha isn't allowed to compliment on looks, why was Arlene allowed to?

I did not say I expected her to be a professional.
I am aware that SCD is an entertainment programme, and that the winners are simply the best of a mediocre bunch of 'dancers'.
Being trained by a professional does not make her more knowledgeable than a choreographer.
I did not say she isn't allowed to comment on looks. I was referring to her constant use of the word 'was' as opposed to the word 'were'!
