Does it matter what the voltage/ampage is on the new plug? I'm replacing a plug on an organ, and the sticker on the base says it runs off of 115-120 volts and .35 amps. The replacement plug I found is labeled 125 volts and 10 amps! Is it safe to replace the old plug with that one?
thanks a lot! i bought a guitar amp with a power cord that is missing the ground prong and causing the amp to make a really annoying hum when i'm not touching anything metal on the guitar/amp to ground it. i'm going to try this fix tomorrow and see if it works!
Thank you so much for your great video! I am a lady trying to figure out all this man stuff with electric equipment and putting things together. I usually go to you tube to get instruction and you gave such great instructions that I know I can do this now. Off to Home Depot to buy wire strippers and a plug
What a great video, thanks for taking the time to show me how to do this. I damaged one of my room fan cords I'm going to try to repair it if I can. There is no ground wire on it though should i get a flat handle plug? I really liked the plug you had used there.
@MrDswdasd A flat handle plug should work fine. The plug that we used in the video we got from our local hardware store for pretty cheap (less than $5). Since the fan didn't have a ground prong on it to begin with, it's probably not too bad to leave it off. The problem with arcade games is that most of them used to have a ground prong and it's either been pulled out or damaged. We have featured your question on episode 24 of our podcast. Listen to it for more of our thoughts. Thanks.
Hey thanks Arcade Repair Tips. I used this video to change my plug. The only wire marked was the green wire and I just plugged that in and then I did a guess on the other two unmarked ones..haha. Well anyway it works great and now I am playing my original Street Fighter machine again!
whoa, with those you don't even need a soldering iron?! I won a Gunblade NY DX that has this exact problem (not really sure if the ground came out while they were shipping it or if it was something that happened when it was still in use) so I'm looking to get it repaired...
My ground wire is the only wire that is color coded. Does it matter if I switch the positive and negative wires? If so, how can I test to see which wire is positive and which is negative? I really enjoy all of your videos and you have been quite helpful !
@necrophagist1234 When dealing with AC voltage coming from the wall there's not really a positive and negative but there is a hot (usually black) that carries the voltage and neutral (usually white) that completes the circuit. Many people think the wires can be used interchangeably, however, some disagree. To determine your AC polarity, do a Google search for "Determining Proper A/C Polarity".
