nice. like jose044 says, loaded with language. good presence too, and keeping it all straight in your head. ain't it hard getting rid of that last bit of ex-rock-guy choke vibrato though? i only say it 'cause i know the feeling ;-) rock on.
Good job ! Well done ! You obviously don't waste your time ! But where was 'Scrapple' ? - only kidding - you've posted a great video here worthy of much credit
OMG thanks! I've been looking for names bebop heads to work on my bebop vocabulary and theres a few here that i've never even heard of thank you so much!
great job, good memorisation, feeling and swing presence and finaly a good exemple of a guitariste to follow for doing a work like this. two thumbs up
Loved it all and amazed by it. Only wish I didn't have to mentally "shut out" the (excellent) sax line to focus on the guitar. Would have preferred your lead to the unison with the sax. (This is not a criticism of the sax player!) Maybe a guitar-dominant arrangement some day?
Really enjoyed all these classic heads put together :D Even if some of them aren't actually by Parker (Boplicity & Donna Lee are by Miles Davis). But yeah great playing!
Wow. I wanted to do what you did some time ago, but never had the will to do it ... Althought, I admire the technical precision that you've demonstrated by picking those heads, I would have liked to hear you IMPROVISE a bit. 11 heads of jazz and no improvisation ? The essence of Jazz is the improvisation, or so my teacher thought me. Anyhow, still damn impressive !
amateur effort, I'll bet you didn't know note 1723 is off by a half step. You must flat those thirds! Ha! Just kidding. Man I hope to play like that someday, thanks for the inspiration!
Is so nice to hear the great charlie playing .... pity on that guitar that's running al the way trying to catch him.. maybe some day it'll make it! :-)
Kevin, I applaud both your hard work and talent. Fame is not the most important achievement... being able to play with tone time and feel... that's the prize. And 78k people know what you have done and that can NEVER be taken away. Congrats.
cool idea. well-executed. I was at a workshop where somebody asked Bela Fleck something about how to get better at playing Jazz and he said "Learn some Charlie Parker heads"
Man,i love listening to this..i dont care when people say bebop is dead..this is awesome..do you have some tabs?did you rely on a book or did you just learn it by ear?thanks
reading from the real book is the way to do it man, if you're serious about playing jazz it's always good to read and play the progressions and stuff too.
Did you happen to know that Miles Davis originally wrote Donna Lee? charlie parker recorded it with his quintet including miles, and the names of the composers were never corrected on the original recording.
very nice stringing together, must have taken a lot of work! do you gig regularly with the backing band?
Man, that was just great. The B'BOpera Players. Cool. Playing that many heads that fast that quick (or was tape edited (cut and spliced)) is quite the feat. Were you actually playing with the guys or they did the tracks for you to overdub?? Either way, that was quite cool. :-)
thanks, guitar is live for the video with a previously recorded band track, minus the gtr part. we learned (over time) the 11 heads as a long run on sentence for our amusement and to see if any pedestrians would hang around listening to see if it ever ends. glad you like it.
