  • Advanced playing and composition but (not only) piano sound on Korg M-50, X-50, Tr, Le ... is very bad, too much plastic, too much digital. Buy new Hammond SK-1, it has accoustic piano too and it sounds as good as an expensive stage piano! Korg M-50 piano (modified and upgraded from M-3 Steinwey Grand Piano) sounds as a children toy compared to acoustic piano on Hammond SK-1, really.

  • Did you edit the program? Is the M50 Grand Piano?

  • @GilliardSchvanz Yes... I don't remember now which one it was. If you search the comments I'm sure I answered this a long time ago.

  • This was absolutely amazing. Love it.

  • Does anybody know how to change Octaves in the piano ? i want to play a little more to the left and have more space in the right.

  • @Cyberman86 Have you tried hitting the two switches above the pitch bend stick?

  • this music is yours? it's so great

  • @guitarheroant As I wrote on the description, I'm improvising over an original song, so I guess that makes it an original improv of an original song lol

  • @WinterWineStudio huh ok! ..you make this song and improv.. ¿no?

  • @guitarheroant This is not an actual song, it is an improv. but the song I'm improvising on is mine, so that makes the original song, and the impriov, my work. So yeah, it's all original hehe

  • @WinterWineStudio I want to learn this composition... Do you have a video in which you go out playing it upside down?, Is to say that me can learn!

  • @guitarheroant No sorry, I recorded the video while improvising, using the camera con my macbook so that's the best angle I could get at that time, even if I was to make one I'd have to learn this... but I really suggest to try to learn it by ear, I don;t read music and I play/learned by ear so I know it could really help!

  • @WinterWineStudio uh ok! I will try it!

  • @WinterWineStudio but, I find it hard to be patient my friend

  • @guitarheroant Sorry to hear "read" that :)

  • @WinterWineStudio what? i don't understand english much I speak spanish! :S

  • @WinterWineStudio ahhh... I understand yet ..hehe :)

  • @WinterWineStudio este vato se ve que esta de malas

    cierto que opinan

  • @WinterWineStudio Next time it would really help if you put the camera on top or facing the keys of the keyboard so next time you improvise we can see what you are doing :) this is just my opinion. Great Playing by the way..

  • @Cyberman86 Thanks. At the time of this recording I was using the camera on a Macbook Pro, it was the only way to record, and my idea wasn't for people to see/learn what I was playing, but to hear the sounds of the M50. Thanks

  • Ahhh. See Ive been debating long about getting a workstation vs midi board. I already know the sounds are better through software, the thing is I get so distracted on the computer, Im hoping a workstation will let me just make music. Ive always liked Studiologic as far as weighted keyboards go; I like the CME's but I've heard very mixed reviews about the quality of the boards.

  • @Inverted314 I actually find it a lot easier to work with software, I used Logic, when working with something new I open a premade profect that opens with a few tracks with Sampletank and Superior Drummer... grab any loops if I need to and I;m ready to make music, edit, record... easily!... the CMEs have gotten better with every new product... many ppl that complaint either dont know how to use it, or are just too savage and destroy it... I read the same of my UMX61 :)

  • @WinterWineStudio hmmm maybe I should give software another try. I've had my eye on an MPK61 or 88 for a while

  • I love dark pianos. What keyboard are you going to use with Sampletank?

  • @Inverted314 I've been using a Behringer UMX61 for a long time in my studio withh all the software... I'll be moving soon and plan to get an 88 weighted CME VX80

  • Hey, i've noticed that the piano sound on 61 keys is a bit compromised compared to the 88 keys. it is somewhat thinner IMO.

  • @idleminds1 That's strange... they're supposed to be exactly the same, it's exactly the same board, only the keys change. Have you tested both side by side using the same monitoring on both?

  • @WinterWineStudio i haven't tested it yet. But upon watching alot of m50 piano videos,(actually almost all the keyboards I've known) it seems that my ears were already trained in comparing sounds. Anyway, i've been drooling over that m50 but its just out of reach. hehehe. BTW check this korg scandal. watch?v=aFqB4Z0r3mw

  • @WinterWineStudio Please do check this video. Try to compare the realism and clarity of the 88 keys. watch?v=T7iZgb0Dokk

  • @idleminds1 Oh c'mon... Thats a dif. piano sound... dif recording method... This sound I made my own, I liked it darker sounding, but there are bright piano sounds also... the 61, 76 and 88 key versions have THE SAME sound engine, you can't just compare two videos made with two dif sounds by two dif ppl recorded in two dif. ways. Anyways, I really don't care, I do not own this keyboard anymore, I use SampleTank 2.5XL for pianos and plan to order Ivory soon.

  • specially the first part... it's the better part of the song!..

  • excellent music! you're a good pianist.. you create this melody? ...it's great composition...

  • @guitarheroant Thanks.. yes... it's kind of an improvised mix of two of mi songs

  • Hi would you recomend the m50 if im gonna play like 80s stuff or can you recomend any other synth ?

    5/5

  • @pukong5 for 80's a Roland (fantom X, G, Juno Stage) would have better sounds and you'll find many sounds heard in the 80s... I had a Fantom X6... so it was very easy to get those 80s from Van Halen, Duran Duran, Inxs, bon Jovi etc... Go with a Roland... the Juno Stage could be your best option for live

  • @WinterWineStudio Thanx for the help !, do you thing a Juno G would do the job becouse i dont have to much money.

  • @pukong5 Maybe... just depends on how much of the 80's you'll be playing... BTW for the same price pf a new Juno G you can find a good used Fantom X6, that would be aloooooot better

  • Sounds a litlle bit like M1 piano

    nice playing tho :D

  • beautifully played.

hopefully i can play like this one day!

great work man and keep on entertaining us with the videos!

  • hello, hey you will you help me, what happens is not able to use the SEQ eh well, recorded and then erased, and I use it for concerts as tracks and eh could not be if you could help me, and also where I can get more effects, I really would be very welcome your help, thank you, hear you play very well!

  • beautiful music !

  • Thank you for your advice! Yeah, I thought about Nord Electro too, very good hammonds, but a bit expensive for me hehe!

  • some Electro 2 sell for around $1000 on Ebay, you should try to get one of those!

For that kind of sounds you're looking for, I use software (recording and performance) Got the Native Instrument's B4II for all organs (love the Vox Continental is has)

  • I play in a rock band; we've got our references on The Doors, beatles, etc. Do you think M50 is such a good keyboard for that stuff? I want good pianos, electric pianos, rhodes, hammond, organs....well you know!

Please, tell me what you think!

  • The M50 can to the job, but in a cheap sounding way... If you can afford it- buy a NORD STAGE or at least a used Nord Electro 2 (or 3). Trust me, you don't want the M50 for this stuff. I love 60's rock n roll and all the 60s/70s and I know that the M50 is not good for that. I sold my M50 because of this.

  • What chords are you using?

Excellent "song" and excellent keyboard ... I am thinking of buy it.

    Greetings from Argentina.

  • I would like to know your view point . I have a yamaha psr s550. I work a lot composing music but I want a better workstation for record and editing tracks.

is korg m50 good in this way? Ihave read tha the sounds are poor (thin) in korg.whats the most cool in korg could you say???

  • Your best option would be software (Apple computer with Logic)... I wouldnt use the M50 as a composing keyboard, I would go with a Motif (ES or XS) maybe the MO6 too... but it really depends what style, because a good aranger keyboard can also work

  • i`ve got Motif XS 7, and it`s not as easy than it looks :-(

In the Voice-mode you can NOT record! If i playing oround with the voices changing filters...and get a idea, i have to change to song- or perform-Mode, all the setings i made are lost, i have to setup the instruments(voices) again, set the tempo and after than i can start the recording... that`s really bullshit!

Only good things are, Best soundquality& many realtime controlls

I will buy the M50, cause i need something too record fast

  • Yeah.. or the FANTOM X that has SKIP BACK SAMPLING if you played something you liked, the SBS is ALWAYS recording :)

  • is the m50 compareable to the motif es6 or fantom x6?

  • The Motif ES and Fantom X are way better than the M50 (In My Opinion, and for my taste)

  • so your saying with the x....if i was messing around and had a nice melody and forgot to play it again i can hear it again??

  • yes.. it is always recording everything you play... so is you're messing around and go "damn, that sounded good"... just hit SKIP BACK SAMPLING ahd there you have it, just cut the part you want and start working with it

  • does the ES6 have that option?

  • NO, no other keyboard has (that I know of)

  • so would a fantom be better all in one or would the motif be? sorry ig ot confused at that part?

  • send me a mesage, tell the styles of music youll work on, similar artist, are you producing alone? or have a band? and maybe I can help you decide on one

  • would you know which is easer to record on? like which has a better seq?

  • the Fantom and Korg have good SEQs... Yamaha's is dificult... For me, the Fantom was the best... Acoustic Piano was awesome as well as many other sounds and almost every sound was very inspirational... The M50 for me worked as a solution for playing live with a Rock band... The Motif ES is good for recording Keyboards (as if you're in a band and dont have to record bass, drums, guitars from the keyboard... but have some good software for Pianos and Organ)

  • out of the two Motif es6 or fantom x6 which would you reccomend.....?

its so tough i have cubase and it has sounds also but i want better sounds....also when getting a workstatoin do i just record tracks on the sqeuncer it has built in right?

  • @bufalopoderoso

Piano is very poor as you can hear, maybe it depends on the player also, but it sounds too boring to me, the best of Korg are the brass-section and the most eye-catcher is the SAX...that would be the only reason for me to go for the korg..if you play lots of piano, i would go for Yamaha..the most realistic piano i ever heard!!

  • @confidential303 Well, I think the Fantoms have more "realistic" pianos, but the Motif's are "better" with its "just like CD, compressed, sounds good from scratch" sound :)

  • @WinterWineStudio

okey, that may be possible, i didn't hear them, but one thing is for sure..Korg sucks when it comes to piano, the others have way more piano knowledge in there..the piano almost get unusable at low octaves..

  • @confidential303 I agree. In this video is the "best" I could do, still something I wouldnt use on a recording, Id use it live only with a band. Thats why since Im focused more on recording Im moving on with software, with $1000 I can can have an amazing grand pianos, great tonewheel and transitor organs, and a library for thousand of high quality sounds!

  • at last i have a korg m-50 to!!

thank you korg for making a

perfect synth. and... very cool song

    winterwinestudio!!!

  • thank you it would be very much appreciated :D

  • hey this is me again is there neway u could send me the sheet music or nething to this song its fantastic and it wont get out of my head till i play it

  • Sorry, I don't write/have/read sheet music... and I don't even know this piece right now, it was improvised based on a song I do have, but I would need to listen it again and see what I played by ear... maybe when I have some extra time. Thanks for enjoying it !!!!

  • =D this video haas proved that the m50 has really great piano sounds, but how are the synth sounds?

  • I would say... it proves that shitty sounds can be worked on and with a little tweaking it can sound great!!!

Check out all my videos on the M50 for synths and more

  • @WinterWineStudio i heard a lot of people say that you can tweak any keyboard sound and make it sounds awesome. im new to keyboards, so how exactly does tweaking work?

  • On the piano sounds EQ is the main focus... Compression and Reverb add a lot of "life".. and sometimes mixing various sounds in Combi mode gets a good sound

  • @WinterWineStudio Ohhhh. I learn something new everyday. I plan on getting this keyboard soon. Do i need to get an amp as well?

  • if you want to... you can also use headphones, or connect to a computer/interface... NO seakers onboard

  • @WinterWineStudio does the korg m50 come with some kind of chord that plugs into my computer that runs this computer interface?

  • *speakers

  • well whenever u release it could u message me id like to hear more

  • where can i find the original song?

  • on any of my 3 backup hard drives :)

  • great if possible may i get it this song is awsome, and id love to learn how to play it

  • well. I will be releasing the original "The Locust" (although this one is based on it, it's very different) sometime in the not-so-distant future :)

  • @WinterWineStudio do the m50 61 and 88 have the same piano quality sound?

  • The only difference between the 61/76 and 88 is the Keybed (and size)... the sound engine and features are all the same

  • would it mean the 61 has 256 mb pcd just like the 88? OMG without doubt it has a good quality sound.

  • Yeah... it's the same model keyboard, so in won't have anything different other than it's keybed (The 88 is weighted). BTW the Quality of the Acoustic Piano sounds here are tipical Korg BAD... you must edit them the get a good sound!!!

  • are the keys weighted on this so it feels like a real piano

  • the 88-key version does have weighted keys... mine was 61 key

  • nice work

  • Very nice demo and I must say that the camera is on a perfect spot. Nice shots! :) The piano sound is convincing indeed. I have the PA-500 myself and doubting the M50 for the band I'm playing in.

  • Beautiful.

I've been coming back and forth about buying a m50, mainly because I was kinda iffy about the piano sound but listening to this convinced me that even though it's far from perfect, it sure can sound beautiful. Well done.

  • Thanks.. all you'll need to do is work the EQ, then Compressor and Reverb will be easy to adjust to your taste...

  • awesome cant believe how relax and pure it sounded

  • Thanks!!

  • great !!!!!

  • Cant you post your presets to be downloaded?

  • I'm selling the keyboard next week and I reset all my edits... I didn't do to much to get a good sound, just work with EQ, compression and be patient:)

  • is this the grand piano sound?

  • I started with the 3-WAY GRAND PIANO, and edited it a little. Since then I've made 3 other programs of pianos a like more:)

  • How to you get this piano sound? All the piano sounds on m50 sucks, but this one was cool? What's the name of the piano sound?

  • Like I mentiones on the comment above. I used A020 Stereo Grand 3-Way, Tube Compressor (the presets are good), EQ taking off some low and more lower Mid Range, some Reverb and a limiter at the end...

  • Where do I go to change these things?

  • First select the sound you wish to edit. Then press PAGE SELECT button, on the botton of the scren the menu for EFFECT will appear, you can select IFX or MFX/TFX.

IFX are internal effect, a total of 5 can be asigned o the sound. MXF are 2 multieffects and the last is a TOTAL... I usially use the 2 MFX for EQ and Reverb, the total for LIMITER or Compressor. In the inserts I use anythig I need to creat my desired sound.

  • I can't find Tube Compressor.

What EQ and reverb effects you use?

  • you can use the STEREO COMPRESSOR found on the Dynamic cathegory or St. Tube PreAmp on the OD Amp Mic cathegory... for that sound I on the demo I don't remember well. but I used the 7EQ Graphic, and fpr piano I normally used HALL reverb...

  • You've sold it to me my friend!! Thanks for the demos ;-)

  • It has no build-in speakers. How do you get the sound?

  • its has 2 1/4 outputs, for the videos, I go out from the keyboard and in to a PreSonus Firewire interface conected to my acbook Pro. The interface's out go to my studio monitors (but thats for me, whats recorded is was goes IN to the interface) thats why no ambient sound comes in.

  • Does every studio monitor work with the M50?

  • you can buy Powered Monitors and simply connect the keyboard to it directly... I use Edirol MA-7A and they sound great and sell for just around $99 a pair

  • Ah, ok, Thank you

  • Ufff!!! ^_^
