@gaae2000 and its actually a mirror image of the original, you can see this with the car driving position and the license plate..."Ram It" is backwards
Wonder if the lead singer of this group ever did any acting? He could have very easily been a great one. Most of the videos from the 80s were totally stupid but this one stands out as a great video and a song that really deserved it. Also who could help but LOVE THE CAR.
This is my favorite hit song of the 80's. I wish I could go back to the days where life was simpler, music was better, and MTV played great videos like this. Freakin Amazing... Life has been better since I've had my Level 42.
@adkpeakboy hey rap and rock is good they just got to go back to showing the videos i was on MTV TRL my last year in high school in 01 they were intervewing kids and with the ones they showed on tv i was one of them
FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNALLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!! Been waiting for this to be posted on here like forever!!!! Thank you Mr Williams!
I have been looking for this video for quite sometime. It's been a favorite of mine for quite a few years now, and it's a good song to listen to. Also, the last few times I have been on a train I couldn't stop singing this song or at least have it playing through my head nonstop.
i cannot believe my self.. when this came on MTV i could not change the channel fast enough.. it got very heavy rotation... i could not stand it.... a few years i wised up.. good job lads..
I can see something of that 1960 "feel good" movie "The Entertainer" in this video. In the black and white shots does Mr. Mark King look a little like Klaus Kinski the actor? Around the edges maybe? Really a great song and enjoyable video..thank you for the post..
This is a great driving song to hear on a Sunny day while crossing the 395 bridge to beaches, and seeing the beautiful intercoastal w/ South Beach a half mile ahead... Windows down, of course.... A tropical chillaxing track that never gets old. ..
Essa música é muito legal, traz nostalgia dos tempos ótimos, tem embalo romantico,é uma música que pode seer tocada várias vezes do dia. alegra as manhãs.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@ScottDConnors I am 100% WHITE!!!!!!! I am NOT ashamed to say it to ANYONE!!!! I do not, or, WILL NOT cower to anyone, to say it!!!! So many people these days are sooo worried about offending people, Im NOT!!! Im WHITE, and DAMNED PROUD OF IT!!!!!!!
Yes, right and left have been transposed, shown by the car registration plate on which the letters and numbers are like a mirror image; I was just curious as to why. I do like the song, though.
I am so hooked on 80's music! This song in particular I have listened to about 40 times in the last two days. (Can you say obsessed?) I had never seen the video before a couple days ago and now I'm also hooked on Mark King (the singer). He's an amazing bass player! Wow! And he was a bit of a hottie back in the day. :)
The twin brother of CHINA CRISIS. 2 major differences between the 2: L42 had a couple of chart hits, CC did not, but CC was the more sublter of the two. I got all of CC's albums. Still I ought to give L42 another break. Above song/video is really good.
Nice one. I was a punk at about this time, i hated soul cat stuff. However, level 42 and ABC, (come to think of it ) distracted my choice in music. This song among others this band recorded at that time still gives me a glow in my soul. Thanks for putting up the original video. There is a beautiful early evening light shot, when he picks the girl up in his car. Thank you
I think the video is the lead singer KNOWING that all their Girlfriends (The same girl) is a BIOTCH.. so he (Dressed as a clown) sees them with HER ,... and in the end he Tells them how bad a Girlfriend (That's what he is mouthing to them at the end of the video....)
The music video of Something About You is directed by Stuart Orme, who also directed videos for the Level 42 songs "Lessons in Love" and "Running in the Family", as well as Phil Collins and Genesis. The music video appears in their video album Family of Five, released in 1987. Mark King is characterized as a dark magician. It represents the negative side of the relationship of Mike Lindup, Phil, and Boon Gould with their girlfriends, all played by actress Cherie Lunghi.
If you've ever been in love, you'll understand the video. And the guy with the cane is supposedly based on Laurence Olivier's character in "The Entertainer".
@JimHadar1 You are correct about the placement of the steering wheel. That being said, no American state has license plates that look like mirror-reversed British number plates.
This video does NOT show Mark King to any advantage. Indeed, he's kinda freaky-looking in it. A very unfortunate choice of directors and direction, I feel, which probably did the band few favors.
I am forever thankful to the person who posted this music video. This video was removed by YT about 2 to 3 years ago because of copyright issues. I am grateful that you have posted this @ MrGuillermowilliams. You are my hero!!!
Seeing this really brings back memories. Used to watch this video every Friday night on VH 1 and NightTracks back in the summer of 1986...
As for not understanding the video: the lead singer is on a train and he is imagining his woman with the guys (other band members) sitting across from him...
Always liked this video and is one of my all time favorites. Oh the memories!
I feel so happy that this video was reposted again. This video has been removed from YT. Is this video owned by Sony? I hope this video does not get removed.
@MyJunior1975 It may be the original video (and that is cool) but listen to the audio, its been pitched up because they dont want youtube to mute it because of copyright laws.
DOES ANYONE HAPPEN TO KNOW WHAT THE GUY SAYS ABOUT 3:15 INTO THIS VIDEO?...THERE'S NO AUDIO TO WHAT HE SAYS...& I HAVE ALWAYS WONDERED. I'M NOT EVEN SURE IF ITS ENGLISH?! Mark King is on a train on his way to see his wife. The Clown gives him the ability to see into the future of the three men sitting across from him. They will each meet a woman with whom they will each have an affair. It's all the same woman, his wife in the future. Mark King has a hard time dealing with this. The Clown finds this funny. At the train station rather than greet her, he just keeps walking, trying to change the future, to prevent the infidelities.
The music video is about a groupie, that girl that is with each of them, it's the same girl and the same girl at the end of the music video when they disembark from the train and they walk past her. Each of the band members imagines what it would be like to have a romantic companionship relationship with her.
@vegetagirl1978 the video depicts a story of all the guys in the band were at one point dating the same woman (im not sure if it was at the same time or at different intervals) and they all got fucked over by her because she was being manipulated by the magician
Fond memories on the couch watching these videos without a care in the world. They opened up some different musical flavors in 80s, 70s rule but there is always some good music being made
Remembered this one from then. Love the song, video is good, but the plaid suit man always gave me the creeps.
