interesting the company that went toe to toe with Sony in the old VHS vs Betamax format war only made to ventures in video gaming, and both were in the form of hardware manufacturing license from SEGA. JVC X-Eye, V-Saturn
Technically nothing, but it was marketed in more "upscale" stores, usually not in video game stores. The marketing also tended to focus on the VCD card capability, making it an "entertainment console," just just a video game console.
@yaumatei1994 yes it is original Saturn was marketed by Sega but HI-Saturn was marketed by Hitashi and V-Saturn was marketed by JVC.... just like MSX model
Has anyone seen that mock-video where they are in a library and a person turns on thier Windows XP laptop, fair enough a chime, but then a nerd opens a Mac laptop and the start up noise goes on for like two minutes?
Well, imagine if the mac had this as it's start up noise :D
I never saw that video, but it would be funny to do it as a candid camera. You enter the library, switch your laptop on and BAM, the Japanese Saturn startup sound makes everyone's teeth rattle.
@RollinRolex Yes. JVC built the early Saturns for Sega, so while they had all the blueprints they worked it out with Sega that they could sell their own versions.

Nintendo needs to add the Sega Saturn games to their Virtual Console. If not them, then Sony.

i think that since sega heavily used JVC and Hitachi parts, they actually licenced the saturn to be made by those companies with their names on it

What made the V-Saturn different from the regular Sega Saturn?

Does anyone know the difference between a V-Saturn and a normal Saturn?
kfcjpo 3 years ago 3
Probably not much, apart from what you see in the video.
CollisionCat 3 years ago 3
The V-Saturn was distributed by Victor Company of Japan (JVC) while the normal Saturn was distributed by Sega.
The Hi-Saturn was distributed by Hitachi.
Other than the differences in brands, they're identical.

V-Saturn? I thought it's just Saturn. What is this? WTF is this? A Japanese Saturn? Why is the intro different?
alexander4488 4 years ago 3
Sega shared the rights to some of their hardware partners, there is a v-saturn from victor/jvc, a HI-Saturn from Hitachi and other from Samsung IIRC.

Is that because they were the main hardware manufacturers?
