  • I was in my car driving to Annapolis the day I heard on the radio that Paul Davis had passed. I was so sad. I always loved his music - what an incredible talent.

  • Loved this song and I played it in a cold loft on a desolate winter's night in Chelsea! His songs were spiritual in the manner of Stevie Wonder whom he cited as an influence, along with Joni Mitchell, Linda Ronstadt, Graham Nash (he does a wondrous version of "A Simple Man". Just such an unheralded American songwriter, so true and soulful.

  • That Dude really knew how to sing a Cool song, cool beard, cool melody.Boy oh boy I really miss the 80's.

  • Now this is the benefit of youtube. I have always loved this song since the early 80's. never knew the artist nor the title. Now I can get it......cool.

  • My girlfriend says Im living too much in 82.........so I dumped her.

  • Love it... Love Paul Davis the day he left us....... Was the day the world lost one of the best singers and the songs all mean something. What happened to those kind of songs.... I could listen to him over and over and over for hours. My 6 year old daughter knows the words to most all the songs. Yep........ Love him but really miss the one of his face sing "sweet life" Thanks

  • I wonder why great music such as this is not being composed anymore?

  • @wooki53 because we have record producers telling you what to listen to and like...though most of us don't like it at all.

  • If dudes today sang about how great it is to love a woman, music would be so much better today.......

  • great song.

  • This song touches me also.I was in a band on the jersey shore. We performed 65 love affair but I always wanted to do this one.

  • What a beautiful song! Thank You Paul you are so missed! RIP!

  • Thanks for bringing back a simpler time...when music was really music.

  • @Enchantress2008 I second that! This will remain a truly beautiful love song.

  • One of the most under rated singers and songwriters of the Century!! He should have been honored more in my opinion for his contribution to music.

He was TRULY TRULY AWESOME!!! I still to this day LOVE his music and voice! Until my last day on earth, he will ALWAYS be one of my favorite singers!

    Love and Miss you Paul!!!!!

  • What a great voice!

  • Great song and always will be. Lots of good songs by Paul Davis.

  • This song takes me back to 1982 spring break Daytona Beach when I worked at the Beachcomber Club at a young age of 20

  • Amazing songs like that should NEVER die !! What a voice.. marvelous!

  • Even though they appear to be playing to the recorded album version, it's still awesome. Best song I've ever heard.

Thanks for uploading this. Very special.

  • Hey...where's the "AUTO-TUNE" effect? Oh yeah...that's right...people back then actually knew how to SING! Great find.

  • I'm 40 years old and this song comes to my mind at times and I just had to see if it was still out there and here it is on YouTube, thanks guys!

  • He has a voice of liquid gold, purely shimmering .miss you so much Paul RIP

  • Brings back memories! They don't make them like this anymore

  • This was great stuff in the 70's that wasn't Disco!!!

  • @LabadieBenny:

That song was actually recorded in 1981, when disco was no longer around. And i agree that Paul Davis had sung great stuff and was talented.

  • One of my favorite artists and songwriters of all time. Thanks for posting this. We'll all miss him, but he left us with his music!!!

  • I love him!

  • Great to see him live but the song is the recorded version....they must have been lip syncin'...

  • the Super Seventies !!

  • this song is so soft and warm

  • Paul poured his heart out in every song. Try to find a new artist that does the same.

RIP, Paul, you are missed by many of us.

  • @mizzouluvr Paul Davis was also very generous, doing backing vocals and playing instruments on many other artist's recordings..............

  • I remember hearing this song on the day I proposed to my wife. It was such a great song, I didn't know the name of it or who sang it until now. Thank you for posting it!

  • Such a wonderful song -I love Paul's voice and so sad to have lost him at a young age. Whenever I hear his music I have to stop and listen. RIP Paul. <3

  • What a sweet voice.....such feeling.

  • NICE SONG R.I.P

  • I'm too sad to just find out PD passed ??. OMG, why all good men who have gave us so much happiness and joy with their art must leave ?

Didn't know : (( This is surely one of the most touching, romantic and everlasting songs I've heard in all my life. Paul, your light is glowing bright, still after all these years, wherever you are now.

  • LOVE THIS !!!!

  • this song is so special, love it!

  • THANK YOU!

  • This is music from my time, where there was still music. God the memories this brings back. Things were different then, more innocent, more forgiving. I miss those times but I feel lucky to have lived during them. I find I still retreat there in my mind, just to get away from the madness that exits today. Such sweet days, such sweet days................

  • Excellent comment Mag, perfect words to say so many things...

  • I remember when this was just a regular song on the radio ==now it's a blessing.

  • This is why the 70's was my favorite decade ever. Long live the '70's!

  • Went to see country outlaw David Allan Coe when he came through town recently. I was shocked to hear him thank Paul Davis for writing a tune for him. When I heard the name "Paul Davis", I didn't put 2 and 2 together, but now I realize this was the Paul he was referring to.

Wow, respect is owed. RIP Mr. Davis.

And yeah, people don't make easy going tunes like this anymore. Kids today don't understand harmonies and keeping things simple and smut free. Hate to sound old, but its damn true.

  • What a singer!

  • One of my favorites.....RIP

  • He does look like Jesus!

  • what a great song.......well than all his songs are pretty sweet

  • Ethereal...the angels are fortunate to have him now.

  • I've always loved this song and believe me, I didn't know Paul Davis sings it! what a precious song and it's hard to express the feelings this tune arouses! it's one of the jewels of soft rock!

  • Looking up this vid is my first hearing of his passing.

Of the handful of scattered memories I have of my early childhood (born 73), I distinctly recall hearing this song on my dad's car radio. It has ever since defined my concept of romance. He was genius as far as I'm concerned, for articulating such a feeling.

It's songs and people like this that express my soul for me, in the most desperate of times.

  • Agian the best song. soooo many memories:)

  • Thanks so much for posting, my favorite song by paul. Such a shame that no new music this good is being made..........

  • great performance. sounds just like the radio version

  • paul we love you

  • Timeless classic! Memories flood in like a dam breaking. Youth is fleeting. Life is too short. Thank God for sweet memories.

  • This is my favorite Paul Davis song, and I like a lot of his songs. He was a great songwriter, and I thought he had a great voice.

  • RIP!!!!

  • Took a truck load of shit for loving this guy's music when i was kid but recently introduced him to my 17 year old daughter and she loved him - needless to say - he's on both Ipods! RIP Paul - true talent always lives on!

  • Loved just about everything this guy did even though i was consistently ridiculed by my friends growing up for being a huge fan!! Stuck to my guns though - still love this guys stuff - RIP Paul - recently introduced him to my 17 year old daughter and she loved him - said he looked like Jesus!! To cool!

  • makes me think of back in the days cruising in the car to the beach with my car

  • cool song this is music from the heart

  • Wow, I was like 6 years old when this came out.

  • He sounds like a pretty boy but looks like a bum.

  • Thanks for posting. Sure brought back memories of being with my lady on summer nights back in the 80's!

  • He kind of resembles Jesus

  • @Human2machineFun Paul's music is still great. But on the subject you mentioned, actually, Paul didn't favor Jesus at all. He does favor some of the pictures artists have painted of Jesus. But as was the Jewish custom, Jesus had much shorter hair, worn in curls and no beard.

  • 1982?

  • i wish i had a penney for every paul davis song i played as a disc jockey...then i had the pleasure of seeing him live......his music is a testament to his great songwriting and performing ability....RIP

  • i think paul davis was a great singer, for a country singer to be so multi -talented & do pop is amazing to me. this is one of my favorite songs, this is real singing.

  • @dawaterman97 ...when he started he was not classified as country....he was straight pop.....only recently, country has embraced his music

  • thats ok,we appreciate it for our collections

  • Puxa, que legal ver o clipe deste hit dos anos 80.

  • TY. A very special song for me personally :-)

  • It's funna be a cool night. This song has always been tighter than a pimp.

  • This is such a beautiful song by Paul Davis as well as one of my favorite songs of all times, so I don't see why they didn't provide the actual video & original video of COOL NIGHT by Paul Davis since this seems to be a popular classic on the radio to this very day as well as one of yesterdays favorites that you sometimes even hear on satelitte radio at the stores & restaurants.

  • Beautiful, romantic song!! : )

  • at 3.07 - 3.08, when he sang "if you don't feel right, you can go" followed by some echo, i thought that was heart wrenching! fabulous stuff!

  • i can say this is one beautiful song to just chill with your girl and make sweet sweet love! he is a good song writer as well as performer

  • Memories of my childhood.

  • Whoever sent this must be from Atlanta. I recognize the TV station logo on the bottom right of the screen at the beginning of the video for WSB-TV Channel 2. I was but a toddler back then but I still somehow recall the logo. And boy, do I remember Solid Gold and the hot ass dancers.

  • my favorite song, thx

  • This song brings back such deep emotions for me of my childhood. I was in 7th grade when it came out and it was so hauntingly beautiful.

  • 1 of my so-called 'guilty pleasures' .

Reminds me of rainy Sunday afternoons in 1982 ; trips to the thrift stores in the early 90's ; and goofing on my younger sister when she was in high school ( ' On a school night / you can't go ... ' )

    lol.

Lots of great tunes from the late 70's / early 80's which I dig ...

... just don't tell my friends or they'll kick me out of the Honeycomb Hideout !!

  • Ah, the memories! Beautiful in its simplicity. Certainly one of the more memorable songs of the period.

  • Ah, the memories! Simple yet beautiful lyrics--matched by only a few like Jewell. RIP.

  • Ah, the memories! Beautiful lyrics, matched only by a few such as Jewell. RIP.

  • This is my favorite song, As Paul says, the song "brings back memories of a good life". And the guitar solo is just perfect, even though it's relatively simple. Tip: listen this song in a quiet and dark room, it's just amazing.

  • Beautifual song indeed. One of the more memorable of the period. Too bad it didn't make it to Number One.

  • @DinhoCMF GREAT COMMENT.............

  • I never knew how he died, but this is from his obituary.

Paul Davis, a singer and songwriter whose soft rock hit "I Go Crazy" stayed on the charts for months after its release in 1977, died April 22 in Meridian, Miss. He was 60.

Paul Davis' hits included "I Go Crazy," "'65 Love Affair" and "Cool Night."

Davis died of a heart attack in Meridian, the city where he grew up, cousin James Edwards said.

  • Didn't know Paul passed away - this is one of my all-time favorite songs, maybe the smoothest ballad of early 80s, although "Cool Night" is the title, this song always wakes me up and gets me in my best mood. Beautiful, beautiful song, Paul's smooth voice will be always hearing in our hearts, in a deep blue sky, in the vast sea on a sunny day...
