  • Weird but pop romantic at the same time, well done and thank you David.

  • How does Bowie fit so many ideas into such a short time? Love the sax sound in this.

  • This is the first record I ever bought and I love it every bit as much today as I did then. The guy is a musical genius.

  • we don't deserve him.

  • @saganemc2 , what are talking about you mug, the guy is good and this track is great but remember who put him where he is, without the paying public buying his music and going to his very expensive concerts he would be another also ran, so yes you do deserve him.

  • "video films we saw" did they even call them "videos" them? it would be so like him to be ahead of his time!

  • Ah, nothing like listening to bowie touch

  • Bowie wrote this song for Mott The Hoople but they decided they wanted to start writing their own songs. They sent the song back to Bowie and he got so annoyed by their refusal to record the song he shaved off his eyebrows. I think he was in Florida when he did it. I love that story. That will show em' David. I'm glad they didn't record it anyway, we might not have this great version if they did. Bowie still rocks !

  • love bowie but i keep thinkin its a skinny rik mayall

  • Personally I think Heroes is his best song, but this would definitely be in my top 5.

  • i was 14 when this album came out ,I was blown away by it and still BLOWN away by it !!!so fucken unique .WOW !!!

  • Bowie got a really fun idea of wierdos

  • I wouldn't want to live in a world with Bowie.

  • @ThereAreNoReasons16 How can you say a thing like that, your sooooo sad, i've loved this guy since i was 14 when all my mates were into the david cassidy, the osmonds, elton john and god forgive motown, I'm 53 now and this track especially still has the same effect on me. Get on David, your deffo one of my heroes xxxxx

  • @basekaye

i do not know who you are but i love you for what you said

and i totaly agree with you

  • @ThereAreNoReasons16 do you mean to say a world without him?? id personally love to have sex with a girl

  • David Bowie is a brilliant singer. Takes me back to my teenage years. It was kind teenie-bop commercial. How could he do that and still sound so cool?

  • Unlike 99% of today's she-ite, this guy will still be being played in another 30 years. A true Musical Legend

  • aladdin sane........ = masterpiece

  • this song is so HOT!!

  • kept me sane in my younger days...

  • Most people forget about this when they think of Bowie's best work, but I think this is excellent. Very underrated.

  • Do you mean 'Oh you pretty thing'? I think they are totally different.

  • @Topographer They are....

  • This song reminds me too much of "All you pretty things". Obviously from the same time period, but the two tunes share the same melody.

  • I luv that man

  • My favourite Bowie song. After much deliberation.....

  • Bowie wrote this for Mott the Hoople, and when they rejected it he got very frustrated and drunk and shaved his eyebrows off. Or so he says.

  • how can justin bieber have millions and millions of views when music like this exists. people are idiots.

  • @saosinic00 He's faded into unfortunate obscurity. If you threw his name around in my town only a handful of people born into the 90's/00's generation would know him. Overall it's mostly the people who knew his music growing up and what with his last album out in 2003 hype around him has mostly died off....

  • what can ya say -exellent song !

  • isn't this song "describes how the inhabitants of a post-apocalyptic world have forgotten how to reproduce, and need to watch old porn films to see how it's done."

  • @Link71596 wow really?? that wuld explain ALOT! x)

  • Aladdin Sane is a GREAT album.

  • @manmanguy its an excellent album! Bowie was out with all his 80's stuff when my dad gave me his old Bowie albums .. the 80's stuff doesn't compare :)

  • @NykersRush No way in hell does it.

  • "There are maybe half a dozen David Bowie songs one can never tire of listening to — and this is the best of them all."

Just allmusic's song review, pretty cool.

  • just listen to the song exactly...jeez...I LOVE BOWIE <3

  • Has a nice 50's feel to it. Yet remains timeless.

    Bowie at his best.

  • @pugilistofpower Yes, in the late 60's we loved to poke fun at that old shit... nothin better, with vietnam ragin...screww the 50's, my man

  • @ioriorioriorio Love me a bit of Vietnam. They gave the Yanks a reet good kickin'.

  • @pugilistofpower ha ha, you had nixon, we had david bowie, imbeciles x

  • @hovis1962 I'm English. Bowie's mine!

  • @pugilistofpower i'm a mongolian, he's mine too x

  • OOOh! Radiovixen76 posted Panic in Detroit!!!

That's it you've gotta be broken to not get excited over the stuff that's uploaded.

I'm torn between clicking and finishing listening to this song. Oh hell it's not going anywhere(I hope). I'll just finish this one.

I should run a search for Tin Machine. Bowie's underrated band from when I started high school. Man what a band.

    Sorry can't help it.

  • Re last post ramble, just noticed the line "...and try to get it on like once before, when people stared in Jagger's eyes and scored". (sometimes sung "when Jagger stared in peoples eyes and scored"). Smiles, friends.

  • Gets us old fogies reminiscing ... for me it was 74, we were 13 or 14, our first party and playing this single. In walks this girl from class and says 'enough of this rubbish boys, here's some good music' ... and proceeds to play Goat's Head Soup in its entirety. Hello Geeling. (China Girl video girl, soon to become Bowie fan). B side to single was 'Little John was rockin, goin' round and round... all good stuff. We had some taste.

  • Just listen. The 50's inspiration is audible but Bowie takes it to his own place. Making sounds nobody else could or would. This wasn't trendy or purely derivative. It was and is Bowie. For goodness sake just listen to him. You don't need much else. With few exceptions the rest is filler. Just filler.

  • Oh dear God. I have blasphemed. I feel so dirty. Please forgive me David. Please the little monsters pushed me to it.

  • Comment removed

  • DAMNIT! Please no more GaGa references away from GaGa's videos. To even mention his/her/it's name in the same breath as David Bowie's is tantamount to sacrilege.

^ That might be a little harsh. But I've been sick of her ever since the second listen to Pokerface. If she can't be arsed to take her "inspirations" to a place all her own like Bowie, SRV, Hendrix, and many more then she's hardly worth noting as anything but a lazy collage maker.

  • this was used as the final song on Jonathan Ross's last Radio 2 show;)

  • Legend XXXX

  • i do believe i am the first person to take note that this song is not off of space oddity!! and my god am i appalled.

  • haha I agree it's the music who matters not the pict^^

  • "His name was always Buddy"

"She's uncertain I've she likes him."

    "It's a Dri-i-i-ive In Saurday."

Bowie at his most cryptic, androgynistic best!

  • Quite - Life on Mars was what first dragged my sub-conscious into Bowies world. But this was my favourite of all his seventies era singles. Typical evocative vocal style. It is the soundtrack of my earliest musical years and personal life. Of course too young to get the subject matter - got it's vibe.

  • why do we have crappy music like the kind ga ga makes

  • @vinger79 you picked the wrong modern artist to bemoan, ga ga is true pop genius.

  • I like this song very much...It doesn't matter in what mood you are in, it always sounds positive and exalted!! thanks!!!

  • probably the best song in the world!

  • David sounds liike he should. Beaotiful. This is another great song by David.

    Thank you

    Mr Bowie

    We Love you

  • But you are right, this is from Aladdin Sane.

  • This is awsome!

  • Just too good; doesnt get much better than this.

  • Bowie has one of the best voices of the 20th century

  • God touched me 3 times. Ok, I didm't touch David, but I saw him.

What would I do to see David again?

I have listened to the Man for 37 years. God Love you David.

    We do.

    Thanks , David

  • this song is amazing. bowie is untouchable. sir david bowie will never be replaced.

    its aladdin sane? track 3?

  • Great song, but it's on Aladdin Sane, not Space Oddity.

  • @jackson2578 TOO TRUE !!!!

  • "give her a rubiks cube"

Why is everyone quoting pilko? Lol

  • you lot on drugs or wot .wot the fuck ya all on about. oh and yeah a class song

he says hes got to stick a tube up me knob,

i said you must be kidding me.

    for god sake, knob ache.

  • He got hot, he got so hot his lips fell off.

  • The thing I've found with pigeons is....they've got wings but they're not using 'em.

  • <3 Bowie <3 Ricky <3 that guy with a head like a fucking orange.

  • I <3 Ricky.... I'm (hardly) ever disappointed in the music he picks.

You never see an old man eating a Twix

  • ricky always picks bowie ..

for which i love him :)

  • "He got so hot his lips fell off"

  • There were midgets in the kitchen

  • Even caveman had little pants on when you see footage of them...

  • Great choice Ricky...x

"stay in the woods, stay green, stay safe"

    Mr K Dilkington's got a head like a fucking orange x

  • high-five rick!

  • See through skin.

  • he was...pushing people off the bikes..

  • "yep. that one. it's good."

  • You never see an old man eatin a twix.

  • "His helmet stayed on, but his head popped off."

  • Karl Pilkington's got a head like a f-ing orange.

  • Ladies and Gentlemen, Please welcome to the stage....

    David Bowie!!!!!

  • man moths?

  • "do you know what the french battle-cry was?.......it was: john's got a moustache"

    karl you're my hero!

  • Cheers Ricky!

    HLAFO

  • One of Bowie's most perfectly realised songs - lonely people in a sterile post-nuclear world look back to "our" day to see what romance means, and they find the Drive-In Saturday cornball, "His name was always buddy/ and he'd shrug and ask to stay" and "She's uncertain if she likes him/ but she knows she really loves him!" It's a crash course for the ravers!!! A sly dig at ourselves, don't you think?

  • "A crash course for the ravers"... that's alot like this show, wouldn't you say? Karl?

  • Pilkies Makin Music!

  • Let's see what we can do wiv science!

  • Have I told you about my Aunty Nora?

  • it's a foodage

  • Could the world fall?

  • They reckon one day you'll be able to wake up and eat a yoghurt you can have a chat with.

  • man moths?

  • "and they said he was the loneliest man...in the world."

  • have I told you about the immune system?

  • bald manc twat

  • Head like a f*cking orange!

  • Class!

  • What like the old Aga cookers,

or Ray Burns of the Damned,

    or the sunglasses?

It's all too surreal - What does it all mean?

And who is Buddy? And how does she know she really loves him?

  • he's saying it's a crash course for the rayburns, not ravers. not trying to be a know-it-all, just thought you'd want to know...

  • and they said Bowie couldnt sing and didnt have vocal range..... my god were/are they soooo wrong !

  • Wait...WHO said Bowie couldn't sing?

  • my point!

  • @PockyBebop anthony newley, that's who

  • @PockyBebop Think it was bowie and that was his reason for the guise

  • @PockyBebop that's what I ask you ! WHO said that ?? He's a great singer !

  • Probably my favourite song of all time

  • Only Bowie could throw this in with Panic In Detroit, Aladdin Sane etc. - it is so different and shows his versatility in songs within one album. Alluurpo, thanks for posting!

  • It's a crash course for the Ravers!

  • it really doesn´t matter which pic is up there...isnt it??...the music is important.... and WHAT A GREAT SONG MY DEAR FRIENDS=))...

  • you took the words right out of my mouth ;)

  • just said that I couldn't be arsed to concentrate to put every correct photo to 250 music videos. If you did that on purpose, god bless the kids for their... so called "funny" humor.

    Disgustingly immature.

  • I PLAYED WITH TREV BOLDER & WOODY AFTER THEIR BOWIE DAYS. (on guitar) RONSON'S BOOTS WERE TOO BIG TO FILL, ALTHOUGH I TRIED MY BEST AT THE TIME.

  • sorry what? ehh you type with too little letters, cant see a thing =(

  • Seriously? That's amazing.

  • Yes we made one album. Some of the tracks are on youtube although I didn't post them. It was released in '75 and we did 1 tour then Trev left to join Uriah Heep.

  • Wow.

  • Wow , who are you?

  • Why is there a picture of the wrong album? This was on Aladdin Sane not Space Oddity!!!! Great tune though cheers, from Ian Smith.

  • because I have like 250 music videos and I didn't have the right energy to fully concentrate to put the right image for every video, but I did put the right song name on the search at google images. Sometimes it doesn't give the right images, and I tried to put different images to every video 8)

  • and oh yes, sorry ;)

  • With this.. fall out saturation.

  • ye your right, the music we have now is complete crap, don't worry im 15 and still like music like this, Led Zeppelin, King Crimson, The Doors and Pink Floyd etc. so they is still a few of us left.
