I agree, hkship. You said it all. I have no idea what the translations are, unless they are posted in the text for the video, or I look up translation lyrics on the internet. But like you say, even though one may not know the language, great is great. And I can sing just about all of her songs. I may not know what I am saying, but I sure can sing them. If Teresa Teng sang in Bow Wow Dog Language, we all know it would be good. No matter what she does, it is always fabulous.
Good songs are good songs. Language doesn't really matter. I enjoyed both her Mandarin and Japanese versions of many songs and they are both great.
BTW, that's George Lam, not Grace Lam. He's IMHO the best male pure singer in HK at his prime. Unfortunately he just can't perform even up to his 50% level now.

Frankly to say I never like songs in Cantonese. I discard to listen to Roman Tam, Ah Lam, Sandra, Michael Kwan, Hui Koon Kit and many others because they changed their style. They incially sang songs in Mandarin or English. Now even Teresa sing songs in Cantonese I don´t enjoy. Sorry, Teresa.
My deep empathy to you. Anyone who is ignorant of the Cantonese roots and origins of these artists is doomed to be non-appreciative. What an irony for your narrow preference for their songs in English adaptations, yet your words are but public self mockery of your English in its written form.
I listen to TT everyday now (how can somebody not), and that's the best part of the day for me!

she spoke few languages from far east to far west, yet, a very humble great singer, to me, she's forever vocal-goddess.

Actually, the solo version of this song is available on CD but yes, this version is not. A happy version of a very melancholy song.
