  • I thought it was ment to do that.

  • @toni77fi If you look closely in the middle of the frame below the top structure there is a small glass box. Also if you look closely there are stairs leading up to the top. Those shipping docks are way to chaotic for a remote or AI piece of machine.

  • No. There is operators in them. They are for moving the containers around and loading onto semis.

  • love it how the little robot (or whatever you wanna call it) slows down at the end, like it knows that there's something fishy going on up ahead :-)

  • @toni77fi People drive those.

  • @blazin421

Okay, so, they're some sort of remote controlled thingies...? since i didn't spot a person on board... reminded me of some automated transport robots back at the time when i worked in a steel sheet factory... nobody in sight, just these machines going on for themselves doing their jobs...

  • two men were assesed at the scene and were NOT seriously hurt in the slightest..! THE END

  • are those vehicles on remote control or something?I don't see anyone driving them...

  • what are those machines driving around in front of the camera? ROV?

  • @hvguy They're called straddle trucks. They drive over the top of the containers and carry them underneath the framework.

  • actually he was in the cab but survived! fact!

  • Man that crane driver gunned it back like a bat out of hell! Thats some scary ass stuff!

  • my mums a security officer at the docs i remember her coming home telling us a man died that day then turned on meridian news to find out more

  • Me too. Dockers are animals, therefore not really human

  • I remember almost being killed in a ship carrying steel pipe, the guy flagging took off on us and the operator could see how badly he was fucking up.

  • no-one lost there job but it was one of the cranes that health and safety passed it fit to use last year

  • the guy didn't die and he's off the critical list and i hope he's doing well

  • Had to respond to some of the laughable comments left here.

Firstly, (jennyshusband) all cranes at Felixstowe are thoroughly serviced regularly and HSE never took any out of operation following this. Where do you truck drivers get these rumours?

Secondly, I doubt the driver was in the cab (various reasons). That would be the thing that you see flying to the back with the spreader frame flailing beneath it (not a crane driver on a trapeze BTW).

Hope most recent driver recovers soon.

  • Had to respond to your comment

    I don't care AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

  • @mcnob72 truck drivers=TRUCKWITS

  • it happend on another crain at about 530 this morning

  • There is a proceedure that you are meant to follow when the booms are lowered. The driver was meant to stand on the platform while the boom is lowered down, this time however he decided to do it from in the cab because it was raining. Good for him that he did, as bits of that platform he was meant to be standing on ended up either on the floor or in the ships hold. He would have been killed if he had followed proceedure. Thankfully no-one was under the thing when it came down.

  • what make of a crane was it

  • health and safety went in and found a number of crains at southampton and felixstowe were found to be faulty. i know this because i am a truck driver who goes in these docks

  • Comment removed

  • Crane not crain.

  • 0:10 bottom left of screen

    I WANT ONE!!! ;D

  • MANKIND BEHOLD! I bring you, TROLL !

  • I used to live in southampton...this is in Millbrook

  • OH Damn! I hope no one was standing under the rig on the deck!!!

  • no one ws hurt

  • campaign for liberty

  • crackas got OWNED!

  • fizzy fail fail

  • after that i think they r SLOWY replaceing the old craind 4 new crains atm i think we have 3 of the new onces working(needs to update the power to them as we can only use 1 of them at the time as fare as ive hored and cant use any of the older crains) and the 4th is on its way i think.

Calzoid71 i think they was made by the world famus crain comp but i cant think of there name atm

  • Is this a Zpmc crane ?

I am a crane driver at apm terminals in Rotterdam, this is the worst nightmare for a crane driver..

  • we had an incident at our port where the boom was up but hadn't latched properly but carried on paying out rope...scary times!!

  • Dear all,

do not blame the operator as he has no control over the motion as they are all automatic. Looking at the video, the boom collapse after it was boomed up for less than 25 degrees. There must be the forestay that gaveway.

  • mikey 24601 ? what the fuck u on about? i drive a gantry crane every day? and you cant boom down when your washing the windows u bellend?

  • I have put scaffolding on most of the cranes at sct, and I can tell you most of them are rotten.

  • my mum is a security officer for the cruise liners. she had the day off that day when a man got kileed but worked the following day

  • in april i was drilling on a small rig along side the warf there(taking core samples of the dock foundation and concrete), we did wonder what happened to that crane, only just found this clip, scary but awsome.

  • Craigmontini, who do you work for then? My company have been drilling there for the last 2 months. You couldn't have had many core runs then as the concrete was only about 1.5m at its deepest! We drilled a hole right under where they've put the damaged crane, safe!

To others, apparently 6 more cranes are going up on 201 berth for one ship upto about 450 metres long I think, nice!

  • i work for seacore. or fugro seacore.

it was on "skate 2" a tiny rig, it was my first job with the company about 6 months ago.

we were placing vibrating wires and taking samples at loads of locations up and down the dock and some about a mile out in the solent.

the drilling was piss easy as you know, 1.5, move to aother hole. 1.5, move again. etc

  • haha seen the remains of that crane yesterday, WHY havnt they cleared it up yet!? the Arm's still a crumpled mess on the floor... i know that the guy got suspended for being out of his cab (washing the window) but if he was in it, he would of died... so what the fuck!?!? haha

  • Made in CHINA!

  • cheap ass metal. always causes trouble.

  • hmm yeah, your 100% right....cranes should be made from wood or plastic shouldnt they :|......

  • fuck that dude, im a longshoreman in LA and that is some scary shit, lucky no one was killed or injured, but fuck man, just to see that happen and know that i work under them cranes daily gives me chills.

  • ((razeyw (1 week ago) not sure what ship it was, but no one was hurt, most people were on a break, and i believe the driver was outside of his cab, washing his windows, lucky, i work for a transport company in Southampton and work was dead for weeks))

yea by work col's m8 was working on that crain and he said that his window needed cleaning and if he dident get out the cab 2 do so he would have gotten killed

  • THE VESSEL: KYOTO EXPRESS

  • Wow!! talk about dropping the boom! I see the operator ran the cab as far back on the backreach as he could... not that I blame him.

  • not sure what ship it was, but no one was hurt, most people were on a break, and i believe the driver was outside of his cab, washing his windows, lucky, i work for a transport company in Southampton and work was dead for weeks

  • what ship did that land on?

  • Hell thats a lotta crane coming down, hope no one hurt

  • Can anyone confirm for sure whether the fault was caused by a modification of the crane or due to metal fatique caused by wear and tear? I see there are two new cranes going up in 201 berth.

  • yeah, the maintenance guys didn't carry out mandatory checks, and the cranes were past renewal. very annoying, as it has cost all areas in the docks a lot of work.

  • I work next to where they are assembling the two new cranes and its amazing how they assemble them. Real engineering. I couldnt work up on those rigs, too damn high for me! It'll be interesting to see how they move them into their eventaul working locations.

  • We have that problem in our company--we have 2 out 8 cranes over 20 years old and our maintenance is annoyingly lax. I shit myself a bit with every hatch lid. I go real easy with 30 ton boxes.

  • omg!!!!!!!!

  • I've seen the pictures of this but not the video, that is unbelievable!!

Makes then Zhen Hua accident here in Felixstowe look tiny in comparison!

  • the steel on all these crane weakens over time

  • i think he was pissed off werkin for sct, cuz he herd his mates at felixstowe docks get an extra 10 mins to skive// no really any of yu fxt rtg drivers your a bunch of lazy gits..m instead of doin ya mates the dock spotters ,get the poor sap who's bin sittin on his slot for over 2 hrs or more..

  • shit happens in hell, yah me mate said he gona spec the new cranes , he gona run the docks with his side kick muttly ,

  • Are they little robots driving around lol

  • Seems that the limit switch sensors failed...

  • Looks like the cranes boom failed when the boom was going down... wow... that was insane

  • I heard SCT had sacked the Crane driver and all the Dockers/Lazy Fuckers are all on strike AGAIN.SCT management are a bunch of fucking idiots and have FAILED yet again when the only blame is down to them,NOT the crane driver.

Shipping lines are already pulling out with probably more to follow. They outbid other ports for work cause they're greedy even though they cant handle the work and when something goes wrong they BLAME someone else for THEIR failings.

  • Another cunt

1, Driver not sacked, why would he be

2, I have been there 14 yrs, we have never been on strike in that time.

3, Shipping lines have been re-routed until we are back to full capacity. NOT LEFT.

  • Hyundai have taken there remaining boat to Thamesport,APL are also starting to move boats PERMANENTLY.

Big International Shipping Lines Dont take kindly to losing money to the likes of SCT and WILL take their business elswhere.which they have started to do.

+ you greedy lot are always striking or on go slow,so am not surprised

The good thing about Thamesport is they dont have to rely on people like YOU,as it is pretty much automated, and the Dockers they do have, actually work for a living.

  • Dude it's Saturday, now go get your leather chaps and plenty of KY. You know that from nine o'clock you will be on all fours for the rest of the night. Have fun, I do hope you get to sit down at some point tomorrow.

  • Dude stop sending me pics of your bare arse on your bike. I dont know what you are thinking.

  • There you go again with your cheap ill thought out insults.your getting desperate now.go ask one of your Docky brothers if he can think of anything good to say.and report back.

like I say its gotta be original and funny which you have failed to do so far apart from resorting to cheap sweary thick insults.

I'll give you til 10pm and if its no good I will take it you have conceded defeat,so you can go back to your straddler, knowing that you are worthless as a human being.

  • By the way you have resorted to using KY on more than one post.

was'nt funny on the first one and was still not funny on the subsequent ones.

you sound like you are'nt quite comfortable with your sexuality as I am.

Gay jokes really dont bother me.

    Think of something else.

    O R I G I N A L I T Y is the key to a good joke?insult

  • PMSL

I'm interested what do you do for a living. Maybe your to embarrassed to say.......

  • Im a gay belly dancer,my big entrance of my stage act involves me arriving on stage on my C90 moped in leather chaps, with a jar of KY jelly and a twistlock.

    Me-embarressed-never

  • For total satisfaction I recommend a 3 high lashing bar..............I do hope your chaps are hi-viz

  • LMAO,cheers for that.and before 10 o clock.

  • so come on what do you do for a living

  • He you cheeky sod, I've got a C90 and I'm not a fruit, at least I dont think so! I suppose you've got a Harley like one of that lot in the Village People, sort of macho puffy.lol.

  • Hyundai had already moved out of Soton to THP so that argument is invalid, not many people will do the same as THP cannot handle the traffic as shown when this happened, even now things are normal, THP is struggling to accomodate vessels all over the show. Besides both ports will be up the creek when DP Worlds new super port is built in a few years time.

  • What had happened is they started getting bigger boats in so they extended the lengths of the booms themselves without gtetting them safety checked and as a result of this accident four of their cranes have now been condemned after being checked out

  • That sucks. Who is the crane manufacturer?

  • It wasn't the manufacturer it was their own in house engineering

  • yah i think i know bloke who specd the job

  • bunny you are a cock.

Yeah, we extended the booms ourselves. We went to the local hardware store, got what we needed and extended the boom on a Saturday morning. Fucking idiot

NON of our other cranes have been condemned.

For your information, it was a manufacturing fault. NOT OUR ENGINEERS. The crane was in fact a 14 yr old time bomb. Get your facts right arse wipe.

    Thankfully no one was hurt.

  • That is what i heard and i far from said you done it on a saturday morning, in future post and let people know sooner or go fuck yourself either way i dont mind i'm easy

  • lol

I think Bikemonkey and bunny the twat would get on real well. He said he was easy

I tell you what I will even buy you the KY.

Sad fucks the pair of you

  • Big barney brown i would love to stay and exchange diatribe with you but i unlike you have a life and my dock isn't tonka toy like yours obviously is some of our cranes are older than 14 years old and are going strong as they are taken care of but there we go. i'm sure you'll have use for the ky as you seem like a man who does enjoy another mans company. take care and remember always use a condom

  • PMSL

It's a long time since I've had a "mines better than yours" conversation. I think I was in a playground the last time.

So where do you work bunnykins? Obviously you have to give me a chance to slag it off.

  • Insulting everyone does'nt get you anywhere, just makes YOU look like a twat/cunt whatever.

You really need to calm down Barney, you sound so bitter and twisted for a fat lazy docker,Had you guys down as chilled out, considering you do fuck all all day.Whats the latest go slow then?Run out of teabags or has SCT bought you gay lot the wrong toilet paper.

  • So do you know who manufactured the crane? We had a couple of our cranes raised about 20ft extending the legs just below the side beams. A lot less booming up and down and you can work the highest stows, but it was done by local contractors which I think is a bit of a worry.

  • was it just by chance you were videoing that particular crane ?

  • its one of our quayside security cameras obviously lmao duh!

  • loads you twat i work down the docks

  • costing me a f*ucking bomb....no containers equals no work equals health and safety shutting the docks down etc etc etc...

  • Health and safety whats that!!!!

Thats the fastest i've seen a crane driver move

  • fucking comedian how many crane drivers u watched move then smart ass

  • I don't think that the driver had any control of the trolley - It shot back when the waterside trolley wire ropes snapped.

  • Looks like he finally found out what the Big Red Button labelled DO NOT PUSH actually did.

  • funny pricks luckily he survived or im sure his family would have liked to read this bullshit

  • non-fatal accidents happen shmuck, lifes too short not to laugh about mechanical failures. Take a f*uckin' chill pill.

  • u really are a dumbass i drive the cranes idiot so the fact it was non fatel is a blessing not just a statistic so poke ur chill pill and go get a life mouthy twat...

  • how can something like that happen?

  • i guess its safe to assume someone lost their job after that.

  • ok u like guessing who u think lost their job ... u seem a clever guy

  • Well, I can guess that you are some 30 year old fat loser that still lives with their parents and likes to go around picking fights on the internet because daddy didn't hug you enough. Of course, in real life, yo would be too much of a puss* to every say a word.

Do the world a favor and kill yourself.

  • aye yie yie

  • I think that it was lucky that no one was hurt. I think that it doesn't help anyone to curse, accuse anyone one on this site. The fact is accidents happen and the fact is, it was a miracle no one got hurt. God does work in myserious ways. There could of been a whole crew under that boom. Everyone should count their blessings. I am just grateful my father and brother weren't killed in this accident.

  • i feel sorry for the guy just this monday gone in southampton docks who was in the crane when it went down, my heart goes out too his family

  • you meen that the man in that died??????i hope not!!
