  • Ha! Five people think this is actually about Oprah! It isn't folks it is about big media being ignorant to social media. Gary thanks for kicking ass, I mentioned it in my business podcast today. Also thanks for granting me that interview last year, one of the highlights of my career as a podcaster.

  • Truly piss poor promotion by Oprah and the vast majority of brands. Don't have a clue, hence they'll never become as successful as they could be

  • Gary, you are my fucking GOD!

It is like you put every single thought I have into words. I am sick and tired of companies thinking they're doing it right, while all they are doing is crap.

  • Awesome as always Gary! its called social for a reason

  • Callin out Oprah. All I can say is "yes" :-)

  • Oh shut up.

  • @Follovvth3dream :( sorry u feel that way

  • @GaryVaynerchuk you dont need to be on twitter, social network is probably the best source of advertisement.

  • @Follovvth3dream Is you a racist? Only reason you told dude shut up is cuz he white. You prolly one the ones gave Obama a couple votes. Please stop being a racist and violating other people's rights.

  • @MountainMonkSage No, its not, its because he talks shit about people advertising on the most visited websites on the planet, and im white and no im not racist.

So go back into your hole and die? k thanks bye.

  • ai si eu ti pego.

  • @amoyal, I do know how twitter works, been there since the beginning, that's how they think it works. Yes and PR companies will post on behalf of some brands/people.

  • Oops didn't realise all my comments would show up at the front - Sorry! :/ Nice catch Gary!

  • Thank you Gary. I will continue to use SM to create dynamic relationships with people I would not have had the opportunity otherwise. P.S. Sweet hat!

  • I've been meaning to ask you this. What do you think of how Ellen Degeneres uses Twitter?

First of all it is called @TheEllenShow and she uses it for games and linking back to extended video on the corp. site.

  • @redmatrix havent looked enough to be honest

  • Gary, please never change.

  • @zaneologyTV promise

  • Thank you for respecting my thoughts and taking them into consideration. Please know that I respect your work and ideas. Loved The Thank You Economy. I worked in sales, and someone gave me the book saying, "This sounds like YOU!" Keep up the good work. Best wishes for the New Year.

  • Also, are you also the 303 viewer?

  • This is the reason why I try to avoid to engage in twitter...it's a mess!

Instead I just use the search function to listen to what customers are saying. In other words, I use twitter for business purpose and facebook for social purpose (friends, family etc.). Thumbs up if you do the same.

  • @Saskiequelle That shouldn't be a reason to avoid it. It should be a reason to learn how to do it properly!

  • I appreciate your upfront candor Gary. You would think Oprah's organizaiton would have a top notch social management team. Maybe Oprah should be dialing you up!

  • I'm going to start calling you " the mailman" you always deliver!

  • Mr G.V., thought about this...most of the folks you are pissed off about have not actually interacted with guests in a one on one basis in my opinion....usually from a distance or in a focus group they might have interacted with guests. Understanding the importance and impact to build one to one relationships with a guest on a human level is something great operators do vs those you are bothered by. Thoughts?

  • @Hospitalityfan This isnt Oprah this is her Network, so its a logo, the people behind them need to understand the DNA of the brand

  • @GaryVaynerchuk Gotcha, make sense! Know I am speaking to the choir, understanding and executing in a multi-billion organization are two totally different things. What a great opportunity! Hope you get their business from this realization!

  • @GaryVaynerchuk Thoughts? Brainstorming: so Oprah and everything she represents in her fan's mind isthe brand right? Her folks on twitter must represent everything the Oprah brand represents...so a development/training program with her twitter reps must take place...at the core of the training program must be a sharing of really listening (because Oprah is master at this), responding with sincerity and empathy like Oprah & all tweets must be filtered intuitively thru what the brand represents

  • Well done Chuk!!! Love your stuff.... FOLLOW ME @EricWebsiteGuru.... LMAO!

  • Thanks Gary! I've seen some very poor social media promotion done by inexperienced marketing people. They honestly don't know what they are doing. Just because you know how to market the 'old way' doesn't mean you can market in the social media universe.

  • @swimfishie It's frustrating that they're the ones who get those contracts....

  • First of all, I read the other comments about your 'rant', though that is just your style and thats who you are- THATS what people resonate towards- your honestly and 'passion' about getting your message out- so thx :-)

Ok, now as for the tweet- with the 'old' platform Oprah was on, 'she' had control- 'she' had the platform, though I 'think' (though 100% sure) that Oprah herself did not tweet that message- her team prob did- its that team that needs the lesson :-))

  • @KatrinaKavvalos Well without her there would be no team, this doesn;t excuse her. You want to get in a game you, as Oprah says/said: "Get with the program!"

  • First world problem. Also, you own an iPhone? I'm sure their ads shoved the message down your throat and the majority of others to buy one. It worked!

  • O needs to fire her agency

  • You're right GV.

    •It's lazy and greedy.

•People won't let friends sell a little- even after adding legit value

on social media 10,000 times, but they help a multi-billion dollar corp

(who will give nothing back) spam their friends?

Trusting a fond source is one thing. But being blinded to cheap money grabs

because of celebrity, just enables pollution.

    To O defenders:

Treat regular working stiffs (families) this way when they tweet a legit offer,

instead of ranting as you do. O ain't you

  • Go Yanks! ;)

  • We ARE all sheeple.

  • I understand and agree with what you are saying; however, I think you should take a look at the WAY you are saying it. You are PREACHING, not TEACHING. I understand this to a degree, but when you are talking to people while you are in a ranting mindset, it does not add anything positive, and it reduces your credibility. My parents and grandparents always told us NOT to respond when we were mad about something, but to wait until we could communicate in a rational manner. Food for thought.

  • @WondrousAwe I respect your thoughts, I think its also my general style, I respect your 2 cents on this and will take it into consideration

  • @GaryVaynerchuk This is GaryV. He's passionate and straight up. Call it "preaching" "teaching" or whatever you want, but it's definitely CREDIBLE and right on. I appreciate the video and plan to share it with my business clients who want to get into this "new social media buzz"... Thanks Gary!

  • Gary I think you forget those are oprahs followers. They will buy or do whatever she wants like sheep in a field.

  • don't stop spreading the truth!

  • @kpx2mrk i've decided not to stop :)

  • Having followed you for a while and read your last two books, I know how this has really pi#*ed you off. Why not write it off to what you have said in the past - "They just don't get it!"

  • @DIYSEOCoach I agree and I see it daily and normally I do, I think I was cranky about the Jets loss

  • @DIYSEOCoach Because as he says, he expects more from Oprah

  • For every request not done in a classy way to retweet or to get a hashtag trending I can imagine there is a measurable response for the positive and an immeasurable, larger response, that hurts the image of the brand.

  • @golfprogress The numbers look good - That's what agencies are selling their clients. There are really only 3 metrics as far as I'm concerned: Thank you, Wow and Done!

  • It's always sad to see 'big' brands grovelling and 'begging' for attention. Feels like primary school –– "Pick me, pick me!".

  • @henrooo I don't think they understand that that's what they're doing. That's the main issue.

  • Everything Gary says is Internet Gold

  • Nailed it on the head! I think that brands fail because they're too lazy to take the time and engage with people to cultivate a community. They are also failing to realize that entering the social world requires a shred of service, something most companies are scared of doing.

Bravo on the video. I'll certainly be passing it along.

  • @MrWcrozer I don't know if it's lazy as much as scared. The real problem here are the agencies choosing quantity (their paycheque + easily explained "metrics") over quality and not bothering to educate their clients. Given that, I'm not sure agencies are reporting feedback like this video to their clients.

  • I'm thinking that Oprah's got her interns updating her Tweet stream. I agree with you, Gary. Please make it stop.

  • @HealthyMom Sad. Interns are better "used" doing busy work so the expertise can shine through.

  • Wow. I'd like to believe that "The Wisdom of the Crowds" would recognize this very "cold" attempt at marketing and respond accordingly. We know when someone "gets it" and when they don't; resulting in either our respect or lack thereof

  • @TimRosenTV i hope so pal

  • Wow ... absolutely unbelievable. But unfortunately, look at the trending topics any given time of day Gary. This kind of catering to the "LCD" while sad, bewildering, and disgusting, works like 90% of the time.

  • Have you seen any WWE product in the last 6 months? I'm sick of them telling me what is trending when I want to see chokeslams.

  • You get new viewers every day and they (me included) need to be reminded what not to do. But please continue to share what to do. Nice clip but keep sharing the ideas that drives relationships forward.

  • @Kalkounos Agreed, I dont do these often but this "hit me"

  • People don't think this stuff "scales" but I gotta tell ya, it really, really exponentially scales over the long term.

  • @RCSuperPowers indeed it does!

  • boom Gary - i love this - Content is King & Context is Queen

  • @MaddenBible I'd say context dictates content, not the other way around

  • Nice hat! Like the message too :)

  • It looks like Oprah needs a new PR agency to tweet on her behalf.

  • @wizzardsblog It's not about having a PR agency tweet on your behalf That's NOT how this works!

  • first again.. i can do this all day long..
