  • Thats more like a mashed potatoe cloud than a mushroom cloud :\

  • Can everyone just stfu about who has the better country/nukes and just watch the damn video?

  • I wonder what would happen if we were to mix the nuclear bomb the hydrogen and a computer guided missile....that would be some strange bomb....but I really should just go back to making my cakes and leave my little food creations in the kitchen..

  • Anyone know if they ever found parts of the ship?

Or would it have been completely vapoursied or something?

  • Why did the UK feel it needed a nuclear arsenal separate from American's? It seems pretty obvious that much of what was done in 1776 was undone after WWII,at least militarily.

  • @waitew For the same reason that France has one: in the event of a limited exchange nuclear war, American bases in Britain and France (which in general are close enough to major cities as to have a substantial effect on the population of those cities) would be amongst the first things destroyed, but if none had been destroyed in America then they may not want to escalate matters. Thus having a deterrent means that Britain and France aren't beholden to American strategic decisions, simple really.

  • Thank you, Karl Fuchs. >:)

  • Get your country nuked by UK, be ok with it.

France nukes French onwed island thousands of miles away from australia, hates the French for it.

    Stay classy australians.

  • Monte Bello Archipelago.

  • "AW SHIT CUZ"

famous last word of geoffery, clan leader of the woobajoolaba tribe of the northern territory in response to the British nuclear tests of the 1950s

  • United Kingdom is better than the United States... x) And I am swedish... lol ^^

    Powerful weapon, btw...

  • we should be nuclear, everyone else has them, why should we be the only ones without this, fuck all u pussys

  • Why do people hate my country who is fighting a war in athghanstan with america quite disgusting if this coming from americans.

  • With allies like Britain poisoning our land and people we might be better off with our enemies? Come on Britain you don't need atomic weapons anymore stop pretending you are a super power be good world citizens and dismantle your nukes!!!

  • @rag5206 how is britain poisoning our land?

  • Please read the book Beyond Belief it details the lies that the British govt. told regarding the tests & long term effects to the environment. During the clean up a few years ago a very brave Aussie scientist died from radioactive poisoning. There was never any need now or then for the U.K to develop Nukes as they live under an American nuke shield, England is full of U.S Air bases and atomic bombs. These tests were an ego thing to look like a world power. They did anthrax tests here too.

  • @rag5206 Yes, and having American bases (mainly early warning centres) meant that Britain was more likely to be nuked if the cold war went hot not less.

  • Those nukes were the one thing that stopeed Russia from trying to engage us in conventional warfare. I doubt we'll ever use them, they're just a scare tactic.

  • @rag5206 Britain needs a nuke. the usa wont do shit unless they are getting something out of it.

  • Sir, Thatcher threatened to nuke Argentina if France didn't give her Exocet disable codes, crazy? Please remember Imperial Britain invaded more countries then anyone and stole heaps of treasures which haven't been returned.. Now is the time for countries to get rid of these things USA has nukes in Britain, France doesn't need them either. If one goes off by accident in UK really horrific damage. We have 120 million Muslims nearby & don't have nukes. Regards

  • without nukes Britain wouldn't have a permanent seat at the UN. like i said Britain can not rely on anyone for our nuclear deterrent but ourself.

  • Fair point, better having the U.K on the UN security council then Nth Korea, or some other crazy country. Strange Israel won't admit its Atomic & Hydrogen stockpile of 300 weapons it could have a seat on the Security Council, still they must have a reason? I always though UK and US were close mates maybe not after Scotland released that terrorist. Strange how the yanks wouldn't back you over The Falklands (Maldives). Argentina must have promised them Falklands oil lease?

  • Go to "Australian Atomic Confessions" on YouTube for a great doco on this subject. Fully recommended.

  • To all you guys out there arguing about all this,if you can,get a hold of a book called beyond belief........it's all about the effects of the radiation on those that were involved in the british nuclear tests in australia..sevicemen,aborigines,and their descendent's since then...and the mess that the british left behind..and the misinformation they gave the people about the types of bombs they were testing...and we're supposed to be part of the commonwealth...an ally....

  • why I'm not at all surprised?

good job we don't have to listen to scorpions thou.

  • this test along with 3 or 4 more took place {approx 150km off the northwest coast of australia}in a small group of island's called the" montebelloes" , also called monty's by local's. the islands are best accessed out of the king bay or onslow

  • I thought they did it in Woomera...

  • My Grandfather was there at the time he was in charge of the evacuation party that evacuated HMS Plym

  • where did this take place?

  • Northwestern Australia somewhere.

  • @jeromeyward

    Montebello Island

  • and acutaly i was talkinfg about the (The First British Hydrogen Bomb) by hawkboy451

  • what does it matter for australia anyways there wasant an y fallout or radiation cuz it was detonated so fucking high a plane would be below it unharmed xD i think...

  • our bomb looked more violent than the americans? theres was more neat and tidy

  • its prob because this was detonated in a dingy boat ship thing.... im assuming thats the reason

  • The 'dingy boat ship thing' you so ignorantly refer to was HMS Plym... a large warship!

Do read what's top-right on these pages before adding your disrespectful comment, please!

  • omg, sorry xD i totally missed it hahahahaahah

  • I love the fact that Great Britan decided to test their FIRST EVER nuclear bomb in Australia. *Mindset for the British* "Oh, i dont want to blow up this revoltionary decice on our own soil... I know, lets pop in to Australia, have a cup of tea and ask if e can detonate there"

    xD lol

  • Blame your government. Menzies allowed it in exchange for Nuclear tech.

  • No not nuclear tech, all we got from it was a measley deal, but by the time any of that became relevant we had moved closer to thew US. Anywho menzies was a wanker for allowing it, he had the chance to say no and didn't.

  • The British govt. lied to Menzies about the types and number of tests, read the book Beyond Belief. They also intentionally dumped/pumped radio active materials into the air to see how far they would travel. It is alleged that they also used people with Downs Syndrome during the tests to see the effects on the human body. I agree Menzies wasn't a nationalist he once said he was "british to the boot straps". However you guys should be good friends and pay to clean up the mess $50 million wont do

  • yeh, well we couldn't blow it up in britain could we? where the bloody hell would we blow it up here!?!?!

  • that is true... lol

  • And the Australian government were actually happy to oblige.

Australia being a source of Uranium and wanting access to future defense and power capabilities, which they obtained but decided not to use, was eager to be involved FYI.

  • we did'nt have to ask

  • it would be interesting to know if cancer rates around the world have increased since the advent of nucleer tests, military types of that era would`nt have given a toss about the after affects i suspect, i have to say quite a few friends have passed from cancer over the years, human nature..... always learn the hard way.

  • This test looks like a dud

  • IF you read it you would realize it was detonated ABOARD and WITHIN a disused warship and not on a clean tower so that it would yield data in case either some foreign power smuggled a bomb into a major port by sea or in casre we ever needed to do such a thing!

Most of the major cities of the world are ports...

  • where on this planet with other life forms not just people, God please take me to another place, this world is messed up, hope we dont loose it again thank god we learn from the past, hopefully he past wont fade

  • hi, im doing a term paper on the history of atomic weapons. could anyone verify that this is legitimate footage. preferably i'd like to know where the footage came from and/or links to offical websites that endorse/use this video.

  • yes the uk is powerful

  • whats the point of spending 10000s of pounds on nukes no one can bring them selfs to use

  • yes true

  • Small scalable weapons are very useful even if the 'city killers' are obsolete political devices.

Newer weapons designs don't use nor need the high blast & heat of older weapons & so don't produce much fallout. Instead they are intended for high altitiude usage to maximize EMP effects.

Large scale weapons may even play a part in defending the planet from incoming asteroids/comets/etc.

    What's NOT useful about them?

  • If one small nuke can develop a high gamma output which backscatters from ground clutter over a wide area, producing a strong multi-frequency electromagnetic signal capable of inducing effects in unshielded electrical equipment then one can turn a large chunk of a nation like the usa into Somalia at a stroke, in terms of working technology!

"While you're wondering why your light went out, your laptop won't boot up and your mobile phone isn't lit up, the war is already over... and you lost!"

  • Asteroids and commets? You know that's not possible, don't you?

  • How big was the largest Russian fusion weapon?

How much Lithium Deuteride was used?

We're far better are at making super-large weapons since 1950s? Simulating via super-computers? Designing new triple- & quad-stage detonations?

So nudging a solid asteroid off-course, months/years before impact OR breaking up a frangible comet using a shockwave or induced currents before it enters a gravitational field, thereby spreading it harmlessly out along its orbit have all been proposed.

    QED possible!

  • Yes - it's been proposed. But at this moment, there is no way of delivering it.

I'm not saying it couldn't be done in the future, but there is no actual plan in place to do this - and if such a threat were detected now, chances are there wouldn't be enough time to devise a delivery method.

  • @robertrulebirtannia Because apparently spending it teaching people how to spell or use capital letters hasn't exactly been a success.

  • Is Britain powerfuL?

  • is the pope catholic?

  • If you were in the UK you would be allowed to post the original sound track...

  • Sorry forgot the -r- in British ( typing error, no disrespect intended )

  • They were allies, but they had separate programs. They didn't start to really share until the late 1950's.

  • yeh the americans decided to betray us and not share the tech, even though we helped them hugely on building their stupid bomb.

  • American is the PRIMARY enemy of the UK.

The usa 'talks' friendship while behind the scenes acting as an enemy of the UK &, most importantly, our interests.

Many times in the 20th century, america commited acts "in the usa's interest" which were actually designed to foil, degrade, damage & belittle the UK.

We should damage them as much as possible while they're reeling from this finacial catastrophe of their own making. Knife 'em in the face while they're down. They did it to us during WWII.

  • OK, next time we let Hitler run over you.

  • really if anything russia did more then america

  • Why do people have to always argue in these videos? Were allies, for christ sake.

  • Not for Christ but one and only alone God.

  • @pluaboect You do realise i said for christ sake, not christ? I'm not religous, im agnostic.

Therefore you have just made a fool of yourself.

  • @jeromeyward first of all Britain Defended itself before the USA even entered the war at the battle of Britain...many Americans seem to forget that, secondly don't listen to him he is an idiot.

  • @jeromeyward D: pl0x don't, I don't like Hitler's boots D:

  • @jeromeyward- by 1941 britain had won the battle of britain, then the US joined the war beacause japan bombed pearl harbour and germany declared war with you. by the time the US actually started fighting the soviets where starting to drive the nazis back into germany where they would eventually defeat them.

so basicly the british people saved themselves, and the soviets finished the nazis. please learn some history before talking crap.

  • @jeromeyward I believe the Battle of Britain was won by the Royal Air Force, so Hitler wasn't going to run over us anytime soon. Hitler was also destroyed by the Russians, so you never really stopped him running over anyone else for that matter. You did however play a vital part in liberating the western half of the european mainland, I'll give you that.

  • @jeromeyward RAF defeated Hitlers planned invasion of mainland Britain....in 1940....a whole 18 months before fat lazy America got its fat arse off the fence. We owe America NOTHING!

  • @Saxonsoldiers Hitler had no intention of invading UK Operation Sea Lion was a false flag just like Gen. Patons fake army, he was more interested in Russia. He wanted peace with England to avoid a Second Front. His General's asked him why he didn't finish England off at Dunkirk? His reply "he always admired the British Empire like the Catholic Church it is a source of stability in the world".

  • @rag5206 Whilst i can understand your POV on the matter the arial Photos of the time which captured the barges being readied for the invasion, the great extent to which the Nazi's put into detailing maps of Great Britain of the time right down to the fact that they had already "pre booked" certain stately homes, country mannors ect for the purpose of being Nazi party/SS/Wehrmacht head quaters. Alot of time and money for a false flag op. Which is a term that was not born at that time.

  • @Saxonsoldiers If Hitler wanted to defeat UK why did he stop his Panzer armies at Dunkirk? Deception was used by both sides in WW2 remember the nazi's thought D Day Landings were'nt the REAL thing. Paton's fake army had fake radio traffic, insignia, rubber tanks/planes. Nazi fleet was tiny compared with British they couldn't invade UK without control of Skies either. Booking manors was smart Psyops by nazi's the same as British secret service creating large fake anti war party fooled Rudolf Hess

  • UK eh? I'm an American and I agree with you haha America has always been stupid.

  • yeah great idea lets declare a war between the usa and the Uk !

  • @flangelet Oh fuck off.. you turned up late as usual. Faggots like you is the reason I hate American people.

  • @flangelet what the fuck would you know.

  • @flangelet Wow, I'm British and that just sounds a wee bit paranoid lol

  • @flangelet You have no ide what your taking about The united kingdom would overwhelm United states in a war im american and i have to admit They are incredibly powerfull country

  • @flangelet

In the last 500 years there has been no country more spiteful, or more imperialistic than England. Notice I don't generalize by saying the UK, because Wales& Scotland have been relatively benign. N. Ireland, however, is as guilty as England in crimes against humanity.

When you consider that the US is deeply rooted in England's history, it's no wonder we have the same megalomaniacal tendencies. You're as culpable as the US, so drink your shite tea, brush your tooth, and fuck off

  • @domco2525

I'm sorry the Imperialism you refer to was not 'English' but 'British'- interpreting otherwise just shows your general racism towards the English and your ignorance as a whole. If you knew anything about Britain, or history in general, you would understand the strong roles the other countries in the UK , particulary Scotland, played in the British Empire. Many historians see Scotalnd as the main driving force behind the Empire.

Wales and Scotland relatively benign! Ha!

  • @winchuni22

Talk all the shit you want, tough guy. Cite all the obscure history books you want. Sipping tea and saying things like "Hither twice" does not excuse the English from centuries of rape, torture, and greed.

  • @domco2525

Hither twice? Its British not English, I never denied any crimes. Where are you from? Because there are very few countries in the world who dont have a history of imperialism. The strongest dictate, always have, always will. If you're American then you dont have much of an argument to be honest. Just a reincarnation of what everyone has done years before.

  • @winchuni22

The problem with these public comments is that assholes like you jump into the middle of an argument that originated between different people or different parties. If you would go back to the comment that set me off, you would see that some dick head remarked that the United States has a history of treachery and evil. I simply remarked that the U.S.A is essentially a splintered faction of England, so it's no wonder we exhibit the same megalomaniacle tendencies as our ancestors.

  • friend..its your own people who migrated in to what we now call AMERICA..sadly its the truth

  • @superdan1875 americans will destroy anything! now i realize that i hate my relatives in america! because they are fucking american citizens!

  • @superdan1875 Sorry the Americans betrayed you? You betrayed the Australians is more like it poisoned our country, lied about the types of test (proved at Royal Comm) You refused to share the tech with us. Plus you withdrew from our joined rocket research program at Woomera without notification. Is that how you treat a loyal friend or just being British? You aren't even paying compensation to your Nuke servicemen yet give India 2 billion in foreign, aid very strange behaviour?

  • @rag5206

Yeah, our government did shit on the former servicemen

Maybe we did poison your country but it's not like Britain was in a position to test nuclear weapons at home!

  • @superdan1875 Thank u for the honest answer. I still don't know why the UK is giving India 2 billion in Aid, India has 96 billionaires UK has 24. India has a fantastic space program huge armaments program & is 4th largest economy while its kids starve? UK does some stupid things & shouldn't have left Woomera Rocket program both of our countries would have made lots of money & helped science & joint national pride. Cheers mate

  • @rag5206

I don't think the UK has the finances for such ventures anymore as she is spending an awful lot of time and money trying to keep Europe and the USA happy.

  • @superdan1875

We have nuclear war heads don't you worry. They're on our nuclear subs which are due to an upgrade. None of the serious political powers, or even midium players, have given up their's, only reduced the no.

  • @winchuni22 Actually the UK only have a few Nuclear Warheads. The reason they have so few is because if one of the subs has a failure and the bomb somehow explodes.......most of the UK will be irradiated.

The only reason we have Nukes is because the rest of Europe, might be big, but they are weak.

Can you believe such a small landmass could raise such a powerful army?.......

Thats why we need Nukes, we probably wont use them though.

  • @theclashrock09 Nuclear weapons cannot have a "failure" and explode, it's simply not possible due to their design. They aren't like normal bombs. Everything has to go perfectly or they will not detonate, simple as that.

  • @theclashrock09

    150 is hardly 'a few'

  • Didn't the U.S. and England work on the manhattan project together ? If so then both the Bitish and Americans first test were one and the same at Trinity. ???

  • No americans are not taking credit for it

  • ok why dnt u stand there?

  • Ok, I will

  • thank you :)

  • LOL!

  • Great footage that I've ever seen before. However, it has to be said that that was the most retarded looking mushroom cloud ever.

  • It was because the bomb was set off in the cargo hold of a ship, not air dropped. The fireball cooled quickly and the convection currents didn't have a chance to start and create the mushroom.

  • Was that the biggest nuke we could make at the time or did they just want a small one to test on?

  • That was a "first generation" nuke. They were extremely complicated and unwieldy. They had to detonate like 36 separate compression charges at exactly the same time, while now they have the "two-point" system mastered. This was a 10-15 kiloton test, comparable to Hiroshima, but it was set off in the hold of a ship, ergo the screwy looking "mushroom cloud"

  • ahh,so it was a implosion type not a gun type.implosion types seem like more trouble than they're worth

  • They were harder to build and perfect, but an implosion type bomb used about 20 lbs of plutonium, which is easier to make, while a gun type uses 120 lbs of Uranium 235, which is much harder to purify, and yielded about 25% less blast force.
