goddamnit i am tired of this richmond being high school nerd of CA and NY we dont have skatparks airsoft fields dont get and big events and are EXTREMELY underestimated i want some change here
i live out in the country so this probly wuldnt werk for me but you shuld get a big group together and do a fundraiser type thingy. if i had help from some other people id try to start one. i think its worth a shot. even if i culd raise money how culd i get it to you though?
hey. i was at the ymca shithole park today and sasw you guys there filming the shittiness of the park haha anyways you left five mins before some emloyee walked up behind me while i was filming my friend with my friends vx and tried too grab it from me and pushed me and stuff...he has it on film so i told him to send it to u to use it in the vid your making
yeah Gilbert went pro with AWS and probably knows Rob and rob is doing the safe spot skate spot deal on the west coast and they should bring it to the east coast! VA needs to get on the map for skating!!!
My dad works in public planning for Loudoun County and just helped get the South Riding(Dulles) Skatepark done. If you need any advice from his experience with the process to get it completed I'd be glad to ask.
Richmond needs an indoor skatepark! What's the point of another outdoor park there is 4 parks in a 10 mile radius pole green, the rock, ashland, YMCA. Why build another outdoor park that will be useless 4 months out of the year?
Tax dollars are paying for this park. Local officials and local contractors are gonna make bank off this project(they always do). They over charge for the park and make them shitty. Thats why all the other parks you mentioned are not ideal because the same kinda idiots who built those are gonna build this new one. People who know nothing about skating but love to line there pockets when a new project rolls around.
An indoor facility requires an attendant, lights, ac/heat, etc. Those things cost money and that cost is going to be relayed to the skaters. A public park would allow anyone to come and skate regardless of how much money they have. Plus, who doesn't want to be outside? We're all stuck inside at school, work, etc. and getting a chance to soak up the sun is always a good thing.
I agree about getting sun being a good thing. There is a harsh winter season at least a couple months out of the year were skateboarding is almost impossible. I don't think the majority of skaters would mind paying a modest amount to skate somewhere warm and at night. Richmond has relatively low prices on real estate, and large industrial areas. I would think finding a spot would be easy. But who says the cement park can't come first. Things seem to be coming together on that front.
I would try to be as hands on as possible, however an indoor park, private or public would be the best thing for the richmond skate scene. Good luck with the park, anything is always better than nothing, just make sure you're fighting for something worth it, because your tax dollars are paying for it.
No, tax dollars are not (primarily) paying for this park. A skatepark is a low priority project and therefore receives little to no funding. It is up to outside funding such as grants and donations to make it happen. If this concrete park happens, it is because of the work of a lot of dedicated people.
If this is true it makes it even more of a reason to make sure the park is legit. Nobody wants to waste time and money. I wish everyone the best of luck. I'm not sure as to why this would be a "low priority poject" considering there are no skateparks within Richmond city limits and there are a number of other "sports" facilities, which tax dollars do contribute to. One thing a learn time and time again is to do something right the first time, thats all i'm saying.
we do cause we have like only a few parks and they have gotten ld and i cant ever get a ride to skate spots so i have to skate at my house all of the time or one of the parks it sucks
laurel park blows cause of the rules, pole green is ok and ashland is in ashland not richmond. it doesn't make much sense that there are skate parks outside of Richmond and not IN Richmond this is deff long over do. fyi the is a nice skate park in louisa county if you willing to travel its deff nicer than anything in richmond.
i live in richmond and have been skating as much as i possibly can for the past four years. skating is my life and i would love to help out with this if i can in any way. i used to be at hippoland every sunday until it got pretty much shut down. i can hardly ever get a ride downtown and all the spots i do go to arent that fun except for a few. where is that spot at the tennis courts? and let me know if i can help please
Awesome! We are actually trying to raise money for the park right now and have a grant that we are applying for. For us to get the grant, we have to get as many votes as possible, so once we put in our application I'll post a link here so that everyone can vote for Richmond.
@thunderwood yeah deff post that. have you already got plans for the park layout? have you gotten in touch with the city or anything about it bcuz i remmeber a group tried to do this a while ago but it didnt work out so im jw
Yes, we are currently working on designs right now. The deal is that Chimborazo Park has a budget to be redone and the plans include a skatepark, but the only problem is that money wise the skatepark isn't a high priority. So, it comes down to us to find funding to make the skateboard portion worthwhile.
@thunderwood just host contests with like a ten or five dollar entry fee and tons of ppl would enter especially if it was a good park just host one every few months and tons of money would be made
guys, I respect you need one, but you americans are soooo lucky :/ what I have over here in england is a skatepark in the middle of a muddy field about 20 mins drive away with a quarter bank box and rail. there you have got everything and loads of street spots.

I did a project in school just a couple months ago about this exact thing. We really do need more legal places to skate.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks so.

ur right

-Ashland is 20 miles away from downtown Richmond
-Pole Green is 13 miles away and is poorly designed/built
-YMCA is expensive and has terrible ground
-Roc is not always open and is poorly built
An indoor skatepark (like Anti-Gravity) would be private and would therefore cost money.
