  • he's a pretty funny guy that lou reed, "some people like us go to a velvet undergroud concert"

  • this video brought home to me the realization that velvet underground and lou reed were 1 & the same; obviously lou reed evolved from velvet underground.... Anyone care to give me any particulars?

  • Over-rated

  • yule lives in seattle..according to wiki

  • I love the chords!! I like this song!

  • What kinda guitar is lou playing? It looks like a busted snow-shovel.

  • Lol, good one!

  • What ever happened to Doug Yule?

  • he's in my basement

  • Doug Yuuuuulllleee!

  • bom pá carai

  • How unique that Maureen plays the drums standing up. Turning the bass drum on it's side. I can honestly say that to this day I have never heard of anyone else playing this way. It sounds good too.

    Excellent up SleepyNiteLite!

  • Write on Reed. This shit is timeless.

  • vraiment bon!! lol :-)

  • Lou is definitely up there among the survivors.

  • Is this the 90's reunion? At first I though John and Streling had changed instruments.. but no...

  • 1993 reunion tour.

  • I love this.....sooooo good - I remember this pounding thru the walls from my neighbours (Back in the 80s) & lots of other brill stuff :))Lou - we are not worthy!

  • vu always avant guard how do they do it. Or are we so...

  • This is cool, but I miss the high harmony from the chorus...

  • sing it yourself :P :)

  • Haha fair enough

  • pure awesomeness

  • I want that guitar

  • coolest motherfuckers ever to walk the earth!

  • very god

  • Great Song, Great Performance, This is BEST overall verison of "Sweet Jane" ;)

  • was this the 92ish tour, i saw em at wembley arena, brilliant gig although cant remember much other than trying to find a tap.

  • it's like lou is trying to get it over with as fast as possible.

  • Doesn't do him much good when he repeats a verse, then.

  • moe tucker changed the drums around so much where are the sick ass fills?

  • On Loaded it wasn't her playing drums. Doug Yule actually played them on Sweet Jane as Moe was pregnant.

  • ooo thanks

  • great performance, great video

  • AHHH SWEET JANE!

  • such a cool drumset

  • y esto me pone muy down down down... jajaja

  • AWW THANKS

  • Moe's an eecentric drummer......

  • wtf does this mean?

  • what are

    you on??

    freak

    dont leave stupid

    comments like that

  • Maybe you are listening to Twisted Sister, man.

  • moe tucker at her best ...

  • That's so fast I could polka to it... and I probably should.

    I think I will.

    The Sweet Jane Polka.

    It will sweep the nation.

  • How bout this tune by Cowboy Junkies?

Cool, hot, sweet n bitter all at the same time.

  • Cowboy Junkies' version is good, but a little slow for my taste.

  • Lou fu----g Reed ! Excellent riff in this song. Just makes me want to jam out! Could play this one over and over! Peace Out!!!!!!!!!

  • where is nico?

  • shes not in this song

  • ...not to mention she's dead.

  • she's dead

  • died in 1988 of a stroke

  • motorcycle crash in ibiza.

  • ohh rite?..so it was nothing to do with a stroke then/?

  • yeah it's true and for a long time ago 1971 but the first time i saw the vids i don't realise lou reed was old and it was a today vid

  • why u delete all ure bank videos:o?

  • i actually like this version a lot. this is the first vu video i ever saw and it got me into them. i <3 lou

  • Wow this is horrible it seems as time progressed the quality of their live performances declined. i like the cowboy junkies' cover better than this live version D:

  • I feel completely different than the previous poster about live performances. I'm sometimes disappointed when live bands do a performance that doesn't sound like they did on the original recording. That's not to say I wouldn't like (or even in some cases think the live version of a recording would be better) the performance, but when it sounds totally different then the way it was recorded; it seems that the artist needed the studio to do that song or songs.

  • I think it's pretty pretentious for you to criticize a band you could never hope to even emulate. Get a heart like Lou suggests and I bet your lives will be a lot happier.

  • They were just way ahead of their time. Like Leonardo Da Vinci or similar people.

That's all. Finally youtube let me post more than one comment on a video.

    Much better.

  • If only Reed, and the rest of the band as well, had tried to improve their live performances more, and with that I don't mean they should sound exactly like on record, live should be different no question. But, you know, improve it. This is just lame. It should be bad-ass with Lou and Cale. They are excellent musicians. But if only, then they might have been appreciated earlier during the time when the band still had not disbanded. But sadly, they weren't appreciated until decades later.

  • They were pretty influencial from the beginning, though.

  • Reed sings with less enthusiasm than compared on the studio recording and doesn't really sing it in the right tact. On record it all sounds more complex, everything fits, the lyrics, the music, everything in general. I think Lou Reed, at the time when velvet still existed, was down cus of all the lack of success with brilliant records, which with no denying was his best work. This drove Reed mad and just didn't like the live performances.

  • Okay, for first, I'd like to get one thing straight, velvet underground is one of the best rock bands in history of the world and have influenced an enormous amount of music throughout the years. This performance on the other hand does not fall in my taste at all. It's not like the bad, breaking all rules, velvet underground they appear as on record. It's nice and friendly standing still performance and singin' totally wrong. I mean, sweet jane here does not sound like sweet jane at all.

  • is someone comparing a copy to the original...u cant do that lol the original whoever made the song will always remain as the best for that song..yeeah theyve modified there own song on here there actuall origianl is classic i trippedto it plenty oftimes...hahahahahaha im 25

  • theres no way the cowboy junkies

    version is better then this.

    Velvet Underground is timeless

    and ass kicking forever.

  • i hate lou's guitar in this video. i never got the fascination with them. they are so ugly.

  • Anyone who had a heart, would you turn around and break it?

  • check out the version of the song that the cowboy junkies based their song on. It is lou and V.U. live in 1969... he was obviously out there that night

  • I like their version as well but how can that be better then this? The cowboy junkies are great but...Yer wrong their music(Cowboy Junkies) all sounds the same.I would know I have seen them before...LOL

  • Can't we all just be friends???

  • Best drum!

  • LoL @ macgeek !! So fun winding up aging hippies.

  • LoL @ macgeek !! So fun winding up aging hippies.

  • this is THERE song, you prick! lou reed wrote it, cowboy junkies were just a bunch of pretentious cocksuckers..

your brain is too minute to understand so fuck off!

  • LOL @ there(should have been their). And what in the fuck the Cowboy Junkies ever do to you?HaHaHa

  • the elementary spelling mistake was due to the fact i was incensed with the morons comments, you pedantic twat!

THEIR, THEIR, THEIR, FEELING BETTER NOW?

  • HaHaHa Yes...much better!Ya GARBAGECANCOCKSUCKER!

  • What a pleasant live version of the song

  • It should be added that Moe occasionally sat down playing drums when she was pregnant (which is the time you'd think you'd be MORE likely to stand - go fig...).

  • A woman. Maureen (Moe) Tucker. Always played the drums standing up.

I thought she died a few years ago, but have been told otherwise.

  • I love Mo Tucker. I'd like to know, does anybody else has a crush on her?

  • it's have tom

  • Not a crush as such (since, with the possible exceptions of Kristy McNichol, Joan Jett and Jodie Foster when I was but a wee beardyk*, I don't have crushes on women), but she is my fave Velvet and, except for John Cale, the one by whom I have the most solo releases (John beats her simply by virtue of having more).

  • Is that a man or woman playing drums?

  • live reunion velvet underground murdered every single velvet underground song.

  • i regret to say that you're right - they've lost their cool

  • sadly, that's what happens with reunion tours

  • Well I was there and I disagree. Their Wembley Arena show was one of the best gigs I've ever been to. I guess you had to be there though - this clip is a little misleading.

  • I rather liked the version of Pale Blue Eyes, and I even like this take (I often wondered what the 'classic' lineup would sound like on this song), but, yes, many of the versions on LIVE 1993 were disappointing or clumsy (though, at the risk of continuing a theme, Moe was brilliant in the face of mixed results).

  • I love the instrumentals on this song!

  • Sweet Jane! 5 Stars!

  • Great!!!! 5 stars from me.

  • SIMPLY WONEDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • standing on a corner...uhm I really like this song, one of the best Velvet Underground's songs ever but I still prefer the first album's sound

  • All the Velvets albums were good, but they have different styles.

    v and Nico- 60s pop/beatnik

    WL/WH- Garage Band

    VU-Very mellow album

Loaded-end of 60's style and more 70's feel

  • what a strange drum set up

  • i have lisent to _"sweet jane" in a long time, i remember i sad on my bed andlooked out and heard the song, ilove it

  • great video

  • the velvet underground y the best of all times... i love the first album with nico, a great woman!!!

  • They ditched her and warhol after that album

  • Remember, it's nice to hear Mo Tucker playing here. She didn't play on the studio version of Sweet Jane. She was pregnant, so Billy Yule filled in on drums.

  • yea she did not play on the whole loaded album

  • Yup. It's funny. I posted the same comment a year ago and didn't realise it.

  • huh yea. coincidence.

  • Mick is that u ?

  • are you talking to me. I'm not mick if you are talking to me.

  • sorry my girls friend was tweeking on you tube under my account. take it easy

  • I just realised this too. This is the first time that John Cale played this song. Doug Yule played on the original song off Loaded.

  • YUP TRUTH LOVE JOHN CALE TOO

  • In which album is this song recorder? In the case it is.. ??? (I mean this live version)

  • I love this song. I am named after this song. It truly brings a smile to my face everytime i hear it. Thank you.

    Sweet Jayne Rose

  • the velvet underground are awesome.... but this could be the single most repetitive song ive ever heard

  • Moe tucker.. love it.

  • when music was about music and not about money

  • not very good performance, wud ave expected a betta one

  • I can see noiw that david byrne was influence by this great artiste theyare both great accomplished artistes afrog

  • I wish I could play guitar like a man, named Lou Reed. Maybe I could with lessons. My sister, Ann Reed can. Maybe I could learn, but I do love him. Signed, Diane Boylan, Saratoga, NY.

  • Step 1. buy guitar

    Step 2. learn 3 chords

    Step 3. find bandmates

Step 4. go to a club and get a gig

Step 5. buy heroin, inject in vein, until that warm narcotic burn rushes through your body

    Step 6. play gig

  • Kids these days all have ADD.They have no patience to find a godam vein!!LOL

  • man the 1,2,3,4,6 are really good advices but the 5 it's really a bad advice. drugs kill and are stupid thing

    music is the best drug

you don't need inject any drug for feel good

    just need play music

    think about that man

  • Dude, I was just responding to dianeboylan. She said she wanted to play guitar like lou reed. When lou was with VU he said he was a major heroin addict. I was just trying to be funny. I guess you dont have much of a sense of humor. calm down with your just say no bullshit. Drugs are bad M'kay

  • yeah you right

    i was kidding

take a walk on the wild side

  • rock stars should never keep going once they have past their prime...this ain't got no soul. Lou knows it aswell.

    lets not kid ourselves.

  • So what?Lou's gonna be a carpenter now?If he would stop playing music what would he do?LOL

  • Dieses Lied hat wirklich Drive. Könnte ich mir den ganzen Tag in der Dauerschleife anhören.

  • I bought a guitar to learn this song. 35 years ago and i still play this tune. Just can't remember the words somedays.

Hello? Somebody get the door the phones ringing.

  • the guitar is a Klein, is a brand unknown by the most but famous among guitarists for his playability

  • I love this riff

  • what guitar is lou playing??

  • Lou Reed always plays guitar. He did with the Velvet Underground.

  • I want to know too. It looks so odd and unique.

  • it was fantastica man

  • Christ this is terrible. The studio version sounds a shit load better.

  • Go listen to it then.

  • No shit.

  • how is this terrible? they're getting old cut them some slack hahaha

  • I'd go to your mum's house

  • And you'd know all about sucking balls..

  • I wonder where Maureen Tucker learned to set up a drum kit like that...band class or something? Of course she's legendary and it's unique, so there you go.

  • This song was done best on Rock n' Roll Animal, also a live album, imo. Steve Hunter's intro is one for the ages on that version.

  • best version is on "Take no Prisoners".

  • DULCE DULCE MMMMM

  • You should listen to the original album version on "Loaded" or the outakes from "Loaded". It may change your mind.

  • The Cowboy Junkies version could put a meth addict to sleep.

  • I respect the Oak Ridge Boys, but Billy Ray Cyrus? Why didn't you say someone interesting like say...oh I don't know...Charley Patton?

  • Ok. Maybe this isn't the Velvets at their peek, but this was easily best "reunion" tour I've ever seen (and heard). Most reunion are devoid of passion. But, if you want to really know what was possible with the Velvet at this time, get a copy of the bootleg from Milan, Italy. It was the last show and they really didn't care about getting along any more -- it is the closest you'll get to Sister Ray in '93.

  • What the fuck do you all think?Fireworks are gonna start shootin' out of Lou's ass? They were always like this!Their music is not the fastest or that perfect sounding..This is a live show so you can't expect perfect CD sound.

  • not poorly..the passion is gone..what do you expect?

  • Yeah- They're all great performers, but in this song there is NO energy.

  • they are fucking legendary...

  • Is it really true the Velvets sold very few albums? Have you ever heard of a band who wasn't influenced by them?

  • Billy Ray Cyrus? The Oak Ridge Boys?

  • the hardest working rock'n'roll band in american history 1993

  • grandissimi

  • Lou and that fucking "wine and roses" lyric. IT DOESN'T WORK, LOU!!

  • That's literally the best part of the song and maybe the only saving grave for this clip.

  • moe's drum setup is how i would have mine.

  • quintessential rockandroll!

  • i love this song

  • heroin, the hell;Lou in the paradise of music genious...

  • UNH the party school of America. Every Friday at 7:00 I'd jam out on this tune at the frat house!!!

  • Uuuh... they got worse by so many years...

  • sublime...

  • Lou Reed = Mick Jagger + Jeff Goldblum.

  • Cool.. it's one of my favorite bands too . great song..

  • That's Art!! thanX Lou, John, Sterling (†R.I.P.),Mo, and Nico († too, shit!!)

People like the Yule bros doesn't say nothing to me!

  • Well, Doug Yule might say nothing to you, but he says a lot to all the people who enjoy the grey album and "Loaded".

  • But I did, I DO enjoy those albums, but, after, the gigs without no one of the originars members were there, and Doug seemed (to me) to look like Lou in everything!! but I DO like the grey one and "Loaded"... this one contains R'n'R Classics like, and I shouldn't even tell u, "Rock and Roll", "Who Loves The Sun", "Sweet Jane", and... "Lonesome Cowboy Bill", ha ha, did u heard the '66 demos with "country versions" like "I'm wating for the Man"? G R E A T!!

  • P.S.: I'm sorry for my english, but it's not my mother language (how do u say this in english?)

all the english I know is thank to Music... serious Music!! like V.U.... (ONE OF THE THOUSANDS ONES...)
