  • why do i always watch these at night?!

  • My husband and I just made this, and let me tell u we did not like it. Now we are a family that loves vinegar and jalapenos, but the rice vinegar ruined this for us. The rice vinegar made the scallops taste like they were spoiled, and totally overpowered the citrus orange flavor. Not a good combination. But in all fairness to this recipe, we did not use raw jalapenos, or the sambal which was optional. We used a tamed jalapeno and sliced it. Maybe things will be better for u.

  • what do you do with the left over sauce?

  • i tried it, and liked it... keeper... :)

  • i can't stop drooling

  • you know theyres a problem when the appetizer tastes bette rthen the main course.

  • Beautiful looking dish. I look forward to trying it sometime. :D

  • Go on hells kitchen chef john, you can cook scallops!!

  • That knife he's using is to die for

  • I'll use this whenever I'm on Chopped.

  • Really nice and simple, thx for a bunch=)

  • why did you make this recipe twice?

  • What are scallops? Were they in a shell before? I could never find out, they're always a fleshy piece of meaty yum.

  • Enter your text here

  • man tha looks goooooooooooooodddddd.

  • aw man....

  • I made this with habanero, my cat actually likes this recipe, even though it has the habanero peppers. I have created a monster

  • Hi, loved the recipe. quick and easy. but is there any substitution for Scallops. I doubt that we get here in our place?? :( will any fish do?? what sort of fish can i make it with???

  • Thanks for the recipe i made it and my family had a wonderful time btw im 15...

  • ooh *drool*

  • nevermind

  • what did you get new scallops

  • he sounds like matt groening

  • YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUM!

  • All that work for two mouthfuls.

    ...I'd do it.

  • @Skencing u could probably do more of it if u really wanted to. for say, like 4 mouthfuls or something...i dunno. im guessing here.

  • this looks soo yummy and easy. i really want to learn doing scallop recipes.

im starting to work in a kitchen in 2 days. Whoohoooooo!!! :)) cant wait!

  • it is a leg of some type of octopus

  • A scallop (pronounced /ˈskɒləp/ or /ˈskæləp/) is a marine bivalve mollusk . The name "scallop" is derived from the Old French escalope, which means "shell"

  • go on chopped

  • I believe...they grow on trees.

  • potatos or like some kind of fish? or meat :S

  • I was just kidding...scallops are seafood, they are meaty part of clams or mussels

  • scallops are the these white circles of meat that are found in frozen clams and the tast awsome.but not as god as shrimp

  • that looks yummy, i want to taste it, but the ingrediants are weird, Orange and Jalapeno???? still want to taste it.

  • wow, that looks easy enough to make...plus, it looks really, really good!!

  • Mmm, my mouth is watering now.

    ^_^

  • very nice. =]

i also suggest 2 seared scallops on a 2in diameter 1/2in tall cake of fresh mozzarella topped with a few slivers of basil and a splash of balsamic vinegar.

  • Go to MacDonalds then . . .

(btw, no one cares what you think)

And that sounds like a lot, sure you weren't looking at price per kg, or lb?

  • fuck mcdonalds. im just saying eating shit like this is unpracticle in the sense that you probably wont even get full off of it.

i weigh 175 so im not some fat ass. if you have a big appetite then this kinda shit is not for you.

and yes im serious just 4 scallops of this size was prett much 60$.

hell oysters are 20$ a container(not even fresh).

  • Well scollaps cost less than £1, so might be good to bear in mind that the world is bigger than your town.

And also he says this is an appetizer really (or make it a main course by serving more) so yeah your not meant to get full from it, if you wonna make it a main course than serve it with rice or pasta, or just some nice bread.

Regardless, this is a good recipe, just cos you can't afford it or for whatever reason don't like it, there's no need to be an ass.

  • $60 wtf is this a videogame you know what l can do with $60 dollars

  • Modern warefare 2?

  • Lawl 2 people thumbed down me just for answering your question xD

  • lm sorry but so what youtube is not your life unless you have no life???

  • Then why are you replying to me? I was making a joke. ... A lame joke...

  • Comment removed

  • he said it's a first course, like an appetizer... if you weren't so busy being critical, perhaps you would've heard him saying that...

  • your videos are the best

  • wow for that small thing they will charge so much but its worth it

  • it looks disgusting but it tastes realy good :P

  • awesome!

  • wow, this is awesome!

    5 stars

  • I tried it and found that I cooked the scallops really well, I think I added a bit too much vinegar and I only had 1 pepper to put in. It was still good, and If I had added a little less vinegar it would have tasted that much better.

5/5 on the dish. Awesome recipe.

  • i have tried it and it is an awesome mixture of taste, hurray, it made my day!

  • Now that's a great dish!

  • I also voted for Chef John.

Thank you for another great recipe, Chef John.

  • Hey Chef John...

Your dishes are awesome and I am really enjoying trying them when I get the chance to get in the kitchen. Just wondering if you can suggest a substitute for the jalapeno. My poor husband is allergic to any chilli - but I would love him to try scallops for the first time with the orange dressing - looks really tasty!

    thanks

  • I wounder how chef John isn't on tv, he is one talented chef

  • would this work with Serrano peppers too?

  • wow..i love it ..and i love your cooking skill

  • He is pronouncing it correctly.

  • He is saying it correctly, it is suppose to be pronounced, hala-pehnyo not jalapeeenio.

  • Simply Beautiful and amazing.

  • foodwishes are the best cooking vids i've seen on youtube.

  • John I HATE seafood but you make me so curious about giving it a try again. That looks yummy.

  • Wow that looks great, i will be rying this one out for myself. Again thank you

  • finally some scallops@@

  • The videos you make are great quality and easy to watch they are almost like Michelle Phan's makeup videos - except it's makeup lol

  • @freshpetalz LOL chef john is so much better than michelle phan

  • @fezan84 hahahahaahahahaha

  • I wish I could hire you as my personal chef :B

  • "Yeah that's one ugly orange, but that's okay" Haha...

  • mm looks delicious :D one of the scallop sear looked like a foot print lol

  • hahah drop a brounwas on them lolol

  • Try the seafood monger at your asian or latin stores if your local megamart (AB is god) does not carry "diver" scallops. Try the freezer section under seafood also. (Bows to John and admits he is not worthy). Please keep up the good food and work.

  • You're so awesome. This looks amazing. I can't wait to attempt it! And HEY! - Get to showing me how to make Chicken Riggies already!

  • Mmm. Where can we find scallops like that?

  • damn, that look good AND easy as always. I wish I was you.

  • Mmmm...

  • Very mouth watering!!!

  • This looks amazing!!!

  • that was kind of a waste of an orange. .. out of a big orange you got like .. 10 tiny pieces.

  • not really, because afterwards he could give the remnants to a homeless person like you

  • and your some dirty redneck so i wouldnt be talking

  • Look at it this way. If he got any of the pith in there it would have been a waste of olive oil, chili powder, jalapeno pepper, and scallops. That would have been way worse.

  • how was that a waste? you're still using the orange.

  • Thanks chief

  • Lovely as always!

  • Looks great. Very creative with orange and Jalapeno.

  • Nice, nice, nice.. Thanks again!

  • Your french is perfect ^^

  • miam! les coquilles saint-jacques avec une sauce piment "jalapeños" et oranges, good job chief !!

  • Mine really sticks to the pan and the crust keeps coming off any tips other than more butter cuz iv tried alot, i 13 and like cooking but i dont know much.

  • it's probably your pan, you need a heavy, good quality pan with a thick bottom.

  • DID HE SAID SAMBAL??????!!

  • yersh, good ol' sambal

  • Yumm! This is definetly my offering at this year's holiday party. Thank you

  • That looks very good. Thanks for

    sharing this great recipe.

  • YOU BURNED THEM YOU DONKIE!! jk. nice job

  • that sear is AMAZING

  • That looks so good! I've tried one scallop in my life and it was like chewing a rubber tire....so I've never touched them again. What should the texture be like when you bite in?

  • fishy texture i guess since they were seared and not overcooked they wont be like a rubbery squid.

  • Yeesh I love scallops.

  • just sear the scallops and when the scallops are done, have some julienne bell pepper strips and some minced garlic at ready to add into the pan, the pan must be very hot as you would only toss the bell pepper and garlic bits with scallops for 1-2 mins and season generously

  • thanks for the tip :)

  • I love the plate

  • is there other substitute for scallops?

  • delicious

  • you are awsome!

  • can't wait to try it out :)

  • Yum

  • mmm looks really good
