Found a whole slew of them! In the wilds here in Oregon. Doing research and a write up with my photography of them and found your video as I was researching.
Thank you for putting there not to touch them!! They need all the help they can get.....
OK, These butterflies are found in isolated sunny areas, wherever the Wild Blue Lupine is found. This is very important. The lupine usually prefers dry sandy habitats. The larva (Or caterpillars) have only one food source, and that is the leaves of the Blue Lupine. Nothing else!!
The adult butterflys are about an inch in wing span (relatively small) and feed on many flowers where they would get their source of necter. Male Karner Blues are ussually prettier than the females.
Nice video! When Crossgates Mall first opened, I didn't shop there its entire first year in protest to their destruction of so much of that Pine Bush area. Glad to see little old blue survived and is still around!
Thanks! They are more common in other states because of that. Now mayor Jennings wants to put a hotel right next to it. Seriously contradicting the establishment of the Pine Bush in the first place. I'm with you on that, I wish I could go back in time and make them add onto Colonie Center intstead. Even though they already did, But I'm talking about a third and fourth level.
We have a very similar species called Summer Blue Azure butterflies. I have some footage of one, somewhere. I'll try to find and post. They sure look alike. Beautiful creatures!

I didn't. It was in a habitat where the wild blue lupine grows, so I left it.

Yeah. These are cool. I read about them in a NY State Regents exam, and found them the next summer.
