  • this is the best, basically. more punk than almost anything else out there.

  • Genius! What any great 1978 punk concert felt like. Poly Styrene RIP.

  • R I P Poly Styrene

  • Good lord this is fucking win. Punk to the core. Doesn't matter the vocals are shot, it's just soooo punk. Against the norm a shit. Just had to listen to fall out boy for a good two hours to try and get in this girls pants. I gave up, no real man can stand fat boys singing like they're pretty.

  • Trust me, you haven't lived until you've seen X-Ray specs!

  • @linuxaos If you knew it was X-ray spexs!!

  • How do these vids only have 100k views?

  • YESSSSSSSSSSS

  • You kids up there that say you like this over today's stuff:

  • Could use a thong wearing tied-up Chris Pontius, though. LOL!

  • EARLY PUNK IS THE BEST!! <3

  • She had more balls then most men

  • She had no need for them... she has ovaries... yay for Poly. She was and still is amazing.

  • The Best of early Punk !

  • Lora Logic and Poly showed what can be done with the lads. Their time was short and sweet, but pukka.

  • just a bit kinkie

  • a true breaking point in girl pop preformers

  • Still an explosion of raw genius after all these years.

  • This is a classic.

  • I could kinda gauge whether something was truly punk by the effect it had on my grandmother.I was hooked at age 12,played this along with I Am A Cliche constantly.Poly's Edith-Bunker-With-Polyps-on-the-rag screech made my grandmother burst out in tears and have to take a valium.Siouxsie's Jigsaw Feeling gave her nightmares. The Germ's Lexicon Devil EP made her pop more valium and escape to her neighbor's across the street. The Slits just weirded her out.She died in the 90's of "natural causes".

  • This is one the best comments I've read on YouTube for a long time. Just goes to show that rock'n'roll is hardly dangerous to the elderly, is it? ;-)

  • Lol yeah, maybe it keeps their tired old hearts beating.I always thought punk could liberate even a thousand year old mummy. For the record she left me some money.I spent most of it on 2nd generation punk stuff.

  • grannny sounds like a coo lady

  • Hah,she was in her unique hight strung way.Her love of Valiums,Roy Orbison and Nina Simone helped.

  • yeah, saw em play in a phone box on the kings road in 1957, amazing

  • Do you mean 1977?

  • fuckin amaaaaaaaaaazin

  • stiil cool!

  • I had the honour of meeting polystryene,

many years ago and she was a really nice girl, she's a hira krisna now if any one is intrerested. Good song brings back many memories of a wild carefree youth

  • As an oldie, who at 16 in 83 adored!!!.. this band thankyou to whoever posted it

  • Wish i were around like too see these live not only these but The Ramones and Joy division too. Not many bands around now like these now. Shame.

  • Ooh the flashbacks!

  • What a gift to future generations. Fantastic song!

  • brilliant wish i had been alive and rebelious for the punk revolution it would av rocke to see the pistols or ramones or clash live even the whole underground scene like this would have rocked hardcore!!!!

  • they all look about 15 in this.

  • I dont think they were much older than that! Poly was only 16 in this video; incredible voice and prescence, and still with braces on her teeth!!!I loved X-Ray Spex.

  • f*cking awesome

  • please die

  • I real had a great time and chance to see them in a small basement in London and it was really electric ! Great.

  • Bind me, tie me, Chain me to the wall, I wanna be a victim for you all !

Great voice for Abomination Street by Venetian Snares.

  • great song... they were just kids and could get a crowd downright rowdy.

  • yeh i also saw her at love music + hate racism

    whoa

some punks were dancing near me

    they were too cool

    so was the song

  • So what does it all mean??????????

Dunno but I was 14 when I heard this for the first time, never forgotten it, I guess for me it means "Do your worst cos I know I'm right, and so do you." Proper punk

  • Bind me tie me, Chain me to the wall

I wanna be a slave to you all

Oh bondage up yours, Oh bondage no more

Oh bondage up yours, Oh bondage no more

    Chain-store chain-smoke, I consume you all

    Chain-gang chain-mail, I don't think at all

Thrash me, crash me, beat me till I fall

I wanna be a victim for you all .

  • I saw Poly Styrene at the LMHR Festival yesterday, I almost died.

  • shit they look six years old. awesome band.

  • I was born in 1996, and I KNOW this is what true punk rock is

  • I'm with you, 1992 birth here. Fuck this new emo wannabe crap, and this Blink182 shit that everyone indulges themselves in. I swear if I heard one more rave about that overrated shit like Avenged Sevenfold and System Of A Down, I seriously WILL scream "Oh Bondage Up Yours!"

  • @JohnnySwitchblade system of a down is not overrated. do not mix it with avenged sevenfold. go actually listen to it.

  • I was born in 1995, im in an all girl class with girly girls and chavs. I have to listen to all there shitty music, this is proper music, proper punk. Punk will never die!

  • Yeah!!!!!!!!

  • top kid

  • I was born in 1979. Just recently discovered the women of punk and I'm in total awe. I really admire them and enjoy this music. It just rocks!!!

  • I love X-Ray Spex... Punk will never die.

  • lol, I've got this on 7 inch original!

    God, I'm fucking old!!

  • Don't flatter yourself. Other people have vinyl too.

  • erm...I in no way spoke down to a single other person, i said that I'm old, yet somehow you seem to think that I am flattering myself.

Can you please explain your reasoning?.

Or are you just trolling for an arguement?

If so, ok. I'm game, Theatrecunts.

I'm betting you have stuff on 78 ceramic too, you nitpicking old twat. What the fuck is your problem, you miserable pooey anus!!

Get a life, you grumpy fuckwit!!

PS, if you do get a life, let me know how you done it, i need one too!

  • Hehe. Let's not have a heart attack. *wink*

  • yeah so have i,supposed to be worth a bit now, unfortunately mines without the sleeve

  • MIKE YOU ARE A COCK! this is true punk, dont you feel it? cant you hear the energy from kids? man.. were u ever there? are you too cool to dance... maybe you were one o them plastic punks? get into the glue man. or did you no even try that lol..? remember this is live! and with that energy they deserve to be right up there with the fore runners of punk.. if you even know who they were! cock!

  • If you lived throught the punk era you just know x-ray spex and poly deserve a bow

  • I'm on a sax kick--"year of the cat," "baker street," and "oh, bondage up yours!" I don't know how I came about this (next some Psychedelic Furs).

  • Try Madness or the Mighty BossTones

  • I got into trouble in work for making a sign that reads 'Oh Bondage up yours!" and then adding to it the different things I hate about new company practices. Security badges etc.

  • Mike, you're just not deviant enough for real punk -- get back to your Nirvana!

  • maybe he's a germ free adolescent

  • wow, you dont like punk OR icing...you suck

  • Stood the test of time.

  • THE BEST THING TO COME OUT OF LONDON.

  • they are so young here. what ever happend to them?

  • Love this song, so cheeky.

  • Little woman with a Big voice and a very BIG ATTITUDE.

    :) :D :) Happy bouncy stuff.

  • Check out 'Legend of Zelda Mature'

    Soooo FUNNNY

  • I love it.

  • Eek. She has an annoying voice now. I only listen to it once in a great while but eh.

  • i'm 50 and this song still gets me jumping

  • FIFTY SCHMIFITY GET OVER IT AND JUMP,

  • Keep dancing cause with brilliant witticisms like that you'd starve> UP YOURS.

  • Dear OLD punk, took ya three weeks to think of that. Some punks grow old and some punks are born old. you seem both and creative-free. At least I didn't steal my whitticism. Wanker, have a nice day.

  • what an asset to the human race you are, again you have devastated me with an outstanding retort.I bow to your superior intellect and i must say you do seem to have a firm grip on what it takes to be a wanker, your experience shows. Keep dancing you'll get it right with enough practice.

  • Is that Glen Matlock (ex sex pistol) playing with them?

  • still one of my all time favorite songs

  • Saw them at the Roundhouse when we all went up on the stage and joined in. Real Energy.

  • nice one man, you clearly you know your stuff, i'll definately check out that DOA flick... loving the clips thus far, easy. J

  • if you have a facebook, join my group..just search X-Ray Spex

  • they suxxxxxxx!!!!

  • BowieTip (3 months ago) marked as spam

Polystyrene of X-Ray Specs is now a Hare Krishna cult member. How un-punk.

    ?

What the hell are you on about mate?

Punk is about freedom, individuality, and the right to choose to do what you want.

Plus, what about the whole Hare Krishna/Hardcore Scene thing?

So many of the old school hardcore punk bands were into the whole Krishna thing.

  • yh im 13 aswell i absolutley luv xray spex!! they are like 1 of the best bands EVER!!

  • i'm 13 nd i love this song! i dont know how old it is bu this rocks! its my ring tone on my phone!

  • energy! thats it...! mindless directionless violence.. nuthin like it now, lame ass punks wanna make money!

  • Isn't it a part of "Punk In London" done in 77? And yes how young we were. Sometimes when I hear the old songs it seems I can feel it. Punk's not dead!

  • aw, they are so young! i love it!!

  • 1st single i ever bought, 1978? excellent video thanks!!

  • I love her strong full voice and the way she expresses herself. What is Polly doing now? If you know sen me mail in my inbox.

  • Actually Poly is about 16 in this video. She started the band when she was 14 and ended it when she was 18.

  • Hitpicker69 is right. She was born in 1957, and was definitely not 16 here. Don't let those braces and her appearance fool ya.

  • ur r all wrong. poly went and saw the pistols play at a local club, and right then decided to start a punk group. she was 18. about 1-2yrs later she had had enough. for me what she did was plenty. she made a huge bash in the wall of music, a huge one.

  • i think she was 14 when they started the band, so cool!

  • Oh Bondage up yours, how I loved this song.

  • Haha, they're all 12! But it's still awesome.

  • are they really 12?

  • Heh, I don't think so (certainly not the lead singer) but man they look young!

  • i think that was like an exaggeration

  • Kickass video!!! Thanks!

  • spirited, rocking live version. cool.
