Nico Carstens, a South African wrote this song. He sold all the rights to the Shadows who had a No1 hit in the UK with this song.

I know of an English version and a Swedish version so there are definitely vocal versions in multiple languages ^^

My aunt used to take me to see this Irish folk music band from Boston, and randomnly they would just break out into this song!!
