Also, this guy obviously doesn't know what economy is. Market is driven by only one thing - expectation. People's opinion about the economy is the most dangerous to the economy and most helpful. So if you spam all these bad statistics to everyone, you will have what's called "self fulfilling prophecy." I believe, if at all, American Idol actually takes people's mind off the economy for a little, which can help slow the decrease in consumption coz of all the worry about the recession etc etc

-Gives exposure to many good talent out there, thereby helping them in their career even if they don't win

-People see this show to see top notch performances and vocals. NOT to laugh at the bad singers.

-People in other countries don't see this show and think wow americans are stupid. NO. They're see it in the first place coz they like it also.

-It's entertaining.
