3 dimensional printing, if this machine was longer it could make 3d objects instead of just on the 2d plane. it's making ribbons with holes in it right now but it could just as easily print a car. with something besides water it could really print a car. there are a lot of different ways to do it.

This was not invented by the Japanese but a professor from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee; Steve Pevnik. I was in his class when he showed us the prototype years ago.

The guy who designed this is Steve Pevnik, a professor at UWM-Milwaukee. I had him for 3D design and Computer Graphics and he took our class to see it in a warehouse. He had one at the Atlanta Olympics and was supposed to have one used in the Batman movie with Mr. Freeze but that fell through. The Japanese did not invent this, it was from the good old USA, Milwaukee no less.
