What blow my mind about Varady is the authenticity and musical integrity of his improvising. In a word, he could just as easily be a 30+ year old professional jazz guitarist. Simply phenomenal, that kid.
@Drblooter99 He plays in Cork a lot. I met him while he was playing in a pub one evening with his brother. Nice kid! But normal you say? If only being able to play like this was normal! ;-)
@Drblooter99 ya he was a normal kid he lived near me and he goes to the market with his dad to play the guitar and he moved somewhere in the north of ireland XD
You can tell he is on his way shadowing Bireli. Look at the way he plays, he doesn't look at Martin at all, hes in his own world and nothing else currently exists. But, if he is to truly be the next Bireli, he'd better master rock, metal, fusion and gypsy jazz and pretty much every single style imaginable, I pray this kid is under great advisement and cant wait to hear some of the masterpieces he will create on an hourly basis.
@atanaciotonyhernande haha u dont know how good i am, first of all... second of all, i saw him play, so wen i say wat im gonna say, dont just go:"yea, why dont u try watching him" or anything stupid like tht, and third: beleive it or not,(youll probably go with not) im pretty damn close. ill post a video on my channel, just so we dont like two children.
@atanaciotonyhernande ok type in santinos going to california. it is a led zeppelin song i did. i was 8 yrs old. and youll see dmore vids next to it and those r from wen i was 10. have fun
@guitarclubca@rwm48 Actually, his father is a guitarist and he's been playing since he was 4. He's also attended the Limerick Jazz Workshop and the Skidmore Jazz Institute. He definitely has a talent for jazz well beyond his years, but he's not self taught by a long shot. Hopefully, he has some good people around him that will allow him to prosper from his talent and don't treat him like a circus monkey.
Andreas.......1 in 100 million or more? This young kid plays completely by ear and can not read music. Wow.....absolutely amazing and born with god given talent.
Not hatin or whatnot, but even tho its very rare to be able to play so good at this age, it gives me the same feel as when I saw bireli on electric with defrancesco: all flash, no actual blues or lyricism. But then again, I'm a hardcore Grant Green fan so that may explain my allergy to flash in traditional jazz guitar playin... Your solo was way more constructed and had actual meaning. Very nostalgic, I loved it.
I just cannot believe what I just watched, There's some stuff around when Birelli was a young lad but this is something else. What a generous fab guy Martin is to showcase this.
One of the benefits in jazz is that so many melodies, so many songs are used to play jazz. It keeps these tunes alive...the best from the 20's on...an archive of music that can be played in your own personal style. Of course, blues does that, but there are simply stronger melodies on other material than what blues has in it's history.
Take Harold Arlen tunes, for instance...Hoagy Carmichael, Rodgers and Hart, RIchard Rogers, Tom Waits...all the great masters of melody.
WOW. That is so awesome. The person who taught this kid should win an award - and, the kid deserves every bit of praise he receives. Amazing, young man!
Fabulous. I'm a student on the Martin Taylor Guitar Academy online and its great to see the next generation of jazz guitarists coming through. Bravo....
Amazing performance by Martin & Andreas. Was actually at the concert where this was filmed and the 600 capacity audience gave them a standing ovation that night.
What's great about this young man is he's not just playing scales, he's taking chances too, and that's what jazz is all about. Great stuff!
