"Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling."
Where does it mention a spirit? :-/ It's just not there. There's nothing to suggest this is talking about anything other than an evil woman, a human being.
@TheDoctor394 Oh I see, i misunderstood what you were saying. From what I understand Jezebel was possessed and that when she died the demons inhabiting her that led her into temptation were released upon the earth. So when it's a the spirit of Jezebel, it is in fact a demon with her sinful characteristics because she of course introduced Baal worship to the Israelites (among other things.) Jezebel and her demons reside under the principality Baal for this reason.
@killerproctologist88 But there's nothing that says Jezebel was possessed by demons. Influenced by them, certainly. Tempted by Satan and his minions. But there is a difference between possession and oppression, and surely she falls into the latter category. She was tempted to sin, and she did, terribly. She was not possessed.
@TheDoctor394 Based on what the Bible tells us I think it's safe to say she was no Christian (after all, she was murdering prophets of Yahweh.) For that reason it is perfectly possible she was perfectly possessed. She's the most evil woman found in the Bible. It's been said that if Satan had a wife, it'd be Jezebel. Saying she wasn't possessed is like trying to say Hitler wasn't possessed.
@TheDoctor394 1 Kings 18:13, "Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of the LORD, how I hid an hundred men of the LORD'S prophets by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water?" (KJV) So basically what's happening here is Jezebel has specifically targeted prophets of Yahweh and has murdered so many shes got the entire population of Christians hiding in caves out of fear of being killed themselves! That my friend is SATAN!
@killerproctologist88 Yes, that is Satan, but not necessarily possession. If we look in the NT, we see that possessed people usually ranted and raved, cut themselves, foamed at the mouth, etc. They didn't carefully plan massacres or suchlike. I certainly don't think Hitler was possessed either. Satan certainly had merry fun with him, absolutely! But, as I said, there's a difference between demonic possession and Satan tempting people to do evil.
@TheDoctor394 Jezebel and Hitler remain two of the most evil people in history, certainly. They gave in to Satan's influences and temptations. But I really don't think they were actually demoniacs. The examples of actual possessed people we're shown in the NT (and, remember, at no time is any demoniac condemned for their condition - the Bible never says the possession itself was their fault, or a sin) suggest that is a very different condition from what we find with Jezebel and Hitler.
@TheDoctor394 Well, I know Hitler was possessed because of how high he was into the occult. The whole point of which is the process of what's called, "crossing the abyss" in other words the process of becoming demon possessed. Notice how both Hitler and Jezebel specifically targeted the Jews (Yahwehs chosen people) and Christians. You can be perfectly possessed and appear normal. There are many different kinds of demons that do different things to people.
The ref. is from Rev.2 20 But I have this complaint against you. You are permitting that woman—that Jezebel who calls herself a prophet—to lead my servants astray. She teaches them to commit sexual sin and to eat food offered to idols. 21 I gave her time to repent, but she does not want to turn away from her immorality. 22 Therefore, I will throw her on a bed of suffering,[c] and those who commit adultery with her will suffer greatly unless they repent and turn away from her evil deeds.
Jezebel was a human...who was posessed by a Deceiving Spirit, a Religious Spirit and a Murderous Spirit. She never was a Demoness, and therefore cannot posess anyone else. When she died she went to Hell.."The Grave" like everyone else, and awaits the day of Judgement. The Demons who posessed her, however still roam free to posess anyone else who is open for posession..
When you see the rest of this series you will understand. The spirit of Elijah is mentioned in the New Testament and "the woman Jezebel" which is referring to someone who had the essence or spirit of Jezebel is mentioned in Revelations. Identifying the spirit of Jezebel just gives us insight about how to deal with people like this.
I'm just astonished that so many Christians go into such depth with all this, giving us huge details about a spirit that the Bible never even talks about.
Well theres a lot of characteristics about her thats mentioned in the bible and we can see that in some people so we relate it to jezebel. thats my opinion anyway :)
And I would agree there are many people who have the faults of Jezebel. But there's a big difference between that view and talking about a supposed spirit of Jezebel, which has absolutely no Biblical foundation. Amongst other things, constant talks of "spirit of this", etc, take away personal responsibility, since people are more inclined to blame some spirit for their faults, rather than themselves.
Elijah is a spirit that will come in the end times to lead us back to the faith of the fathers.-Malachi 4:5
Elijah will use the power of the Holy Spirit to "bring her down" because she is arrogant and belittles the people of godliness, and practices "self" worship
Jezebel "spirit" is seductive, cruel, distructive, at times violent, and attempts to destroy and discredit the testimony of end time saints.
The Jezebel "spirit" is also as real as Santa Claus. As another poster has said, this woman died a long time ago and, presumably, is now in Hell, not here bothering us.
"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."JESUS WILL TAKE BACK THE EARTH FROM THE POWER OF SATAN.. WHEN HE RETURNS. If you do not believe there are spirits at all, then you do not possess the Holy Spirit. Read the bible, Jesus said there were devils, demons, evil spirits etc.....
Mark 8:16..."many demon-possessed people were brought to Jesus."
7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. 8 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.
9 Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are.
23 I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am the one who searches out the thoughts and intentions of every person. And I will give to each of you whatever you deserve.
Rev.2:24 But I also have a message for the rest of you in Thyatira who have not followed this false teaching (deeper truths, depths of Satan, actually). I will ask nothing more of you except that you hold tightly to what you have until I come. To all who are victorious, who obey me to the very end, To them I will give authority over all the nations. They will rule the nations with an iron rod and smash them like clay pots.
"They will have the same authority I received from my Father, and I will also give them the morning star!Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches."
I certainly believe there are evil spirits, demons, etc. I have no doubt about that. What I'm saying is there's scant Biblical support for naming them, and also, there seems to be confusion here about two different things.
From what I gather, people who commit sexual sin, etc, are said to have the Jezebel spirit. But you talk here (like in Mark 8) about demonic possession, which is very different.
Never once in the Gospels is a demoniac accused of any sin for their condition.
Jesus never condemns them, or says their possession is a sin, etc.
When the Bible talks about casting out demons, etc, this is not the same as talking about people who commit sins of adultery, etc. One is a condition the person cannot help, while the other is a deliberate sin. Two very different things. And the Bible never, ever teaches us to cast out a spirit (or name one) when someone is committing a sin. That is only for demonic possession.
