  • im a soprano and my sister is an alto. this song is soooo funny! i love it!

  • I love this song!!!!! Great! ;P

  • Love this song :D alto isn't too bad though, I'm an alto/mezzo and often I got the best solo belts. And I'm by no means the best singer. Altos are more raw and powerful, I reckon :)

  • I sing both alto and soprano, alto is far more frustrating and challenging....Why does no one appreciate it?

  • At my school the tenors were the divas :P . I personally sing sop in choir and alto in musical theatre so I'm on the fence in this debate. Love the song though, a friend of mine is doing it for a show and she sounds awesome :).

  • Ugh, I hate having to sing the crap parts of a song because I'm an alto/mezzo.

  • I can relate..... I'm an alto too...

  • she is sooo good :)

  • Amen!! I'm a Mezzo, so I don't know where I am half the time. Church choir I'm soprano. Opera I'm 2nd alto. Show choir it depends on the song. "WHO AM I!!?"

  • @sarina76667 I know! I'm a Mezzo too. At my old school I was a alto. . Now I'm a soprano! The sop[rano parts are too high, and the ato parts are to low. So annoying!

  • You know....I don't think I've ever met an Alto that can hit a high C

  • Why would anyone dislike this? What is unlikable?

  • I can relate....

  • i was forced to sing 2nd soprano or alto in my school choir... i can sing a top E.... so i sang the 1st part anyway :P

  • the best version of this song EVER... she is the PERFECTION

  • Bahahahhaha love it SO much

  • Story of my life, haha I love this.

  • At my school we have an Alto Choir, we have decided that we don't need ANY of the other parts... We are singing this at the moment!

  • this is genius :DD

  • Its too true, I was once a soprano but years of being forced to sing the alto lines in choirs that were increasingly getting smaller meant my range is not what it used to be. This song speaks to me on so many levels xD Love it!

  • in my school choir, the sopranos think they are so much better than the altos because they learn their part quicker, but their parts are the melody, so they are soooo easy to learn, and I know that because I used to sing soprano. so, dear sopranos, we love you, but you need to show us some respect.

  • I love how all the altos are like, "we are SOOO much better than sopranos!!" and the sopranos are saying, "... We never said you weren't." all voice parts make up one whole part and that part is worth more than just one section by themselves. Together, altos and sopranos are worth more than alone.

  • @64horsegirl Hah! I don't know where you are, sweetie pie, but where I tread sopranos always think that they are the chorus. Well, them and the Baritones. The altos rarely get anything of importence. Yes, the choir needs all parts, but it is nice to feel importent, not just NEEDED, and we rarely feel that!

  • What do you call a soprano who can sight read? An alto... <3

  • My voice teacher told me that I'm mostly in the mezzo-soprano range, but my voice goes from G3 to F6, so I'm a lucky duck :)

  • @aerdna14 I was going to make a joke about how I'm the lucky duck, 'cause that's my username on a different website, but then I realized the joke wouldn't work here. :P

  • I'm an alto.....and i feel EXACTLY the same way

  • ...this is too high for me....im going to go cry in a corner now...

  • Jerry Seinfeld, is that you?!

  • I myself am an alto, and i feel the same way. :P

  • I love this song...but I'm a low alto and can't quite sing it. But I'd take being able to sing really low notes over high ones any day. Go Altos!! Harmonies rock. ;)

  • I used to be so jealous of the sopranos because they always had the melody and the part everyone always remembers. Now I love adding the spice to the music by being the harmonizer. I hate the sopranos notes too! They can keep the notes that sound like whistling teakettles I do NOT want them! Yet many times the sporanos get the melody despite the fact that its well within alto range just because that's what's always been done. Give us altos the melody when its in our range and let us savor it!

  • Without the altos (and basses in a mixed gender choir) there would be no flavor to the music. Who wants to eat food without salt or spices? We harmonizers, altos and basses, are the salt and spices to the fabulous dishes known as music. I've also heard that "Altos are sopranos that can read music" while I frown on the unkind implications of the phrase, altos DO have a much harder job as their part is not straightforward, the "famous" portion, and usually they are FAR outnumbered by sopranos.

  • @jkh1920 The reason sopranos get the melody just about always is because the highest note being sung is the one that comes through the strongest. As such, giving altos the melody while the sopranos have a harmony that is higher than the melody would require that the altos sing louder than usual and the sopranos to sing quieter, both of which hurt the overall blend and sound of the music. As such, giving sopranos melody is simpler.

  • @Thunder7cloud

Part of the reason sopranos always sound so much louder is oftentimes there are too many of them in comparision to the other parts. I disagree that the highest note comes through the strongest because I just heard recently a local on-stage musical and I found that the characters who sang in a lower (i.e. alto or tenor range) were much easier to decipher the words for vs. a clearly soprano character who sang higher which made it much more difficult to catch the words.

  • Sopranos do occaisonally have a harmony part that is higher than the melody. It's called a descant if I'm not mistaken. It would be good for the sopranos to go a bit, pianissamo comparitively to the other parts (tone it down a bit) too because normally their higher part carries quite well anyway in addition to the fact they normally outnumber the other parts.

  • @Thunder7cloud yeah, yeah, we know. How 'bout we just leave the sopranos out sometimes?

  • We have made an Alto Choir at school because we believe that altos can do everything! Our first song to sing is this for our school music festival!

  • Fabulous!!!!!

  • altos RULE.

  • natalie rules!

you should check out my take on the lament! :)

  • i was made to be an alto in my choir.... i sang the high bits anyway :P

  • *sob* The truth

  • *Jazz Square!

    Haha! :DD

    Gotta love us altos!

  • BRA-VAAA!!!!

  • Yah in the choir I am in I'm and alto, and in a mama mia set we're doing, the altos don't get to sing anything fun!

  • Haha. Altos. Sucks for you guys.

  • Love how she has to sing the 7th at the end! :D SO GREAT!

  • This is so great!

  • oh my word...777 likes, 22 dislikes. I don't want to click the like button and mess up the repeating digits!

and this is totally true...altos always get the harmony part that no one really pays attention to.

  • is this original key? or is it up a little?

  • @justwannawatcjh I think this is the original key, but some of the notes are not sung as written. The stuff she changes works well though.

  • HOW I FEEL ALL THE TIME xD

  • altos are funny, i can completely understand this song so much, this is how i feel all the time haha

  • FABulous. Very true. BUT, all of you fellow altos, if you sang more classical music, you would have more to do. Brahms LOVED altos and wrote fantastic music for us, both solos and in choral works. There's a lot of great stuff for us in Bach's oratorios, masses, cantatas.... and that's just 2 great composers from 800 years of choral music. ... We're the salt of the earth, the backbone of the choir, and we're often put in the alto section because we can read music!

  • @sophelet BUT If you're an alto in a choir you don't have much of say in what you sing....

  • @sophelet Don't forget Handel and Mahler!

  • Love it. She performs this so well that I think I will become an alto!

  • @barbersbabe Noooo don't enter our world of "Skyyyyyyy yo ho!" xD

  • im a tenor. o.o

  • Know why I don't get cast as an alto? Because... I have a high C... but not a low A. :)

  • I love being an alto but a solo or even singing melody once in a while would be nice!

  • in all of natalie's videos i have to turn my sound down in the beginnig and end because of the applause hahaha!

  • U know...

I love being an alto!!! So whatever!!!

  • lol loved ur vibratto in the "tonight" by the end of the video DD::: and u have a beautiful High C *----* congrats!!! xDDD

  • I am a 2nd Soprano :) but i get put in alto I AM NEVER THE MELODY!!!!! E.V.E.R!

  • i love how shee sings alto harmonies in this song :)

  • she has such a pretty voice, and soo talented

and this song makes me laugh every time, because i obviously know what it is like to get those roles.

    lol

  • 21 people are offended sopranos

  • @peDoo69 Which there shouldn't be. I'm a Sop I, and I'm quite aware that we pretty much never sing harmony. I feel kind of guilty about it sometimes XD

  • 2:42 - 2:49 Kills me every time :D

  • She looked less than amused to be there.

  • @MRuby825 It's called acting...

  • @Kesinji I understand that she's supposed to be annoyed in the song. But in general she just seems like she doesn't care. Like she has no energy and she just like runs of the stage at the end.

  • @MRuby825 I disagree completely. Can you not hear the audience reacting?

  • hahaha this is so great =) Love your voice!

  • love LOVE LOVE THIS! im doing an audition december 14th with this song most likely..any other suggestions for an alto? im not good with high notes but ill show off any notes i can as an alto?

  • good song for altos is carols around... im an alto and this song is hilarious because i can relate... but i figured if the altos want to be heard than carols around is the song for us

  • It's so true. The poor, poor altos.

  • Both this and the Soprano's Lament amuses me. I have to watch this again right now!

  • @berlande101 no it shouldnt be blocked...ill look though

  • sooo my life

  • OK I was wrong; I think it's closer to 3 octaves. But a contralto with the range can sing it. There's only one high in the very end.

  • Of course a alto(contralto) can sing this song. Just lower it! I sing it -3 half steps. It doesn't even require a huge range. It's what, two octaves?

  • ahahahahahahahaha

  • I'm an alto...and I can't read music to save my life. Never been able to...

  • I feel like this ALL THE TIME.. being a female tenor.. *sigh*

  • @Sparkstarthunderhawk you mean contralto?

  • @kowannabe1120 No. Actual tenor.

  • @Sparkstarthunderhawk so you've had your formant analyzed and had someone figure out where both your passagios are?

  • @Sparkstarthunderhawk My friend's also a femal tenor.

  • That was her best!!

  • @PerfectSim411 Thanks!

  • Who is the guy introducing Natalie?

  • @mbrooks972 Scott Alan, I think

  • Ha Ha I just crack up at Wuzzy90. It's apparent they you really need to read your own words. If one post something on here, well you should expect a comment. I don't understand why people get so upset about such things. If you don't want a comment then don't put anything here. Simple as that.

  • I LOVE this SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is amazing!!! Im so glad she is on Broadway!! I going sing this song to my choir because of her!! :)

  • ...my new favorite song ever...

story of my life, and she's amazing. ^_^ <3

  • This is my new favorite song!!

  • Natalie Weiss FTfreakingW

  • ALTOS RULE. Takes skill. =)

  • You are awesome! Hahaha! This is fabulous!

  • I love singing

  • I love this song! And Natalie sings it incredible! Where can I get the sheet music? I want to sing it too!!!

  • @Rebecca230587 Goldrich and Heisler Songbook, Volume 2

  • so true! in our choir we joke around with the altos all the time and once when the altos had to be tenors and the 2nd sopranos had to be altos, the sopranos stayed sopranos and my choir teacher said it's because they wouldn't know how to sing anything else BUT the melody...lol!

  • this totally my song

  • wooooow!!

anyone give me a link to a kareoke version??? oor can any1 play this on piano??

  • ohh man! i love this song, i can totally vouch for that feeling or endless low notes in so-called harmonious alto parts.

  • sooo what do you think would happen if i auditioned for choir with this song? i'm trying for alto ;P haha great stuff

  • I second that that Lizziebell, So hilarious!

  • Watch Altos Lament by Alison Larnder its hilarious!

  • Comment removed

  • hahah that was awesome great job Natalie!

  • AHAHA

  • Excellent and ohhhhh soooo true.

  • Oh I agree!

  • @gcampbell03 That's your opinion!

  • Whenever there's a song like this on YouTube everyone seems to feel the need to leave a comment telling everyone what part they sing. Just enjoy the comedy of the song and leave comments relevant to this performance. We don't need to hear every ones life story.

  • @wuzzy90 you suck!

  • @wuzzy90 Hahaha that was a really funny comment, i completely agree. Ever since I was a kid i used to....haha no im kidding :D

  • @wuzzy90 Hahahahaha! I love you!!!!! Figuratively speaking. :P:P:P

  • what is the last song segment she sings from? The what mirror where one.

  • @Tomeres its from west side story the "i feel pretty" i think is the name? the one that goes i feel pretty, o so pretty.....

  • thats right :)

  • West Side Story. It's "I feel Pretty"

  • That's from "I Feel Pretty."

Maria: Who's that pretty girl in that mirror there?

    Chorus: What mirror, where?

And so on and so on....

  • @Tomeres Who cares? Just enjoy!

  • @rasrames I knew that i knew where it was from, but i couldnt remember, it was bothering me :P

    Shes awesome :D

  • I think this is the "Mezzo-soprano-forced-to-sing-the-world's-most-boring-alto-parts-lament"! :) Still very funny, though, and does capture a lot of the trials of the lower voiced among us. Of which I am one. :D

  • that is amazing

  • As a mezzo soprano with a wide voice range, I get stuck with whatever doesn't have enough people. The altos were rather grumpy. XD

  • I'M AWESOMER!!!

  • "tooooooo" :D

    "-niiiiiiiiiiight" XDDDD

  • LOL :D

  • haha "was that fun for you?"

    indeed it was : )

  • The exact same thing happened to me, except for that I'm an alto and I had to sing soprano.

  • What show is this song from?

  • Love this! what's the songs at 2:54 and 3:04 and what shows are they from?

  • I'm not sure about 2:54, but 3:04 is Memory from CATS

  • that's from the micado, i can't remember who wrote it though, the song is "three little maids" it's really cute!

  • Gilbert and Sullivan wrote the Mikado.

  • flawless... just beautiful!!!

  • I love this song! And i
