From that episode on I liked to think of "Benjamin" as the Doctor's name. And River does call him so in "Let's Kill Hitler" - it's hilariously literary and meta. Love.
@LoLapluesch I'm pretty sure "Benjamin" refers to the model of gun or the company that made it, but I can't say for certain. All I know is that it was a six-shot revolver-type pistol, and that the Doctor knew River had it from the line "Hello, Benjamin".
Never watched "The Graduate"? Mrs. Robinson (Anne bancroft) seduces Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman), who is far younger than her and later falls in love with her daughter. So actually he implies, that she's an old woman that falls in love with a younger (looking) man.
when the doctor who movie comes out these 4 should be the first people to be signed for filming straight away fuck all the shit about "starting from scratch" doctor who is bigger than ever with this doctor and companions matt smith is the best doctor of all time karen and arthur are brilliant and alex is amazing no doubt about it so why "start from scratch" when the actors NOW are better than ever before sadly the movie will only be out in about 3/4 years... :(
@TheRandomstuff12345 Oh good grief, everyone on Doctor Who World was having a fit about this until the Moff shot it down on Twitter. Someone even said the death curse from Harry Potter (Avada Kadavra!), to which I said "Calm down, Barty." (If you don't get the connection, turn in your Whovian cards immediately)
His appearance would suggest maybe mid-to-late twenties but his voice, his mannerisms and the way he carries himself seems to suggest someone decades older.
@TheJboy88 Matt Smith was born 28th October 1982, and was 26 when he was cast as the Doctor. He is the youngest person to be cast in the role, Peter Davison was 29 when he was cast.
@Shomononosh I love that Moffat doesn't ignore their physical features and tailors the dialogue to them individually sometimes. I absolutely adored the earlier reference for Matt about the Easter Island statues too. I died laughing. It's terrible to laugh but he really does look like them.
And then Later in the Series, in "Let's Kill Hitler", River (on her first meeting of the Doctor in her point of view) says to the Doctor "Hello Benjamin."
So, It was a joke she knew but the Doctor didn't yet.
@Coolpirateprincess Of course David's doctor had a different way of reacting. In 'Forest of the Dead', River says, "I hate you sometimes! And he just goes "I know!"
@Coolpirateprincess My fave part was when River said "I hate you." from inside the TARDIS, and the doctor (currently being wrestled to the ground by Nixon's guards) yelled "No, you don't!"
I love how the tense music stops when river says " I hate you"

I think Matt Sith is much older than he looks.
His appearance would suggest maybe mid-to-late twenties but his voice, his mannerisms and the way he carries himself seems to suggest someone decades older.
Either that or he's just a very good actor.
I think I'll go for the latter explanation.

rockguitar2012 9 months ago 59
@rockguitar2012 Mrs. Robinson is from the movie 'The Graduate'. It's about an older woman that seduces a younger man, thus the reference to River.
